This Abandoned IMAX Theatre Is So Creepy and Weird - You Won't Believe What's Inside!
The Niagara Falls IMAX® Theatre has left the iconic pyramid building behind. The theatre has been in operation for more than 35 years and has introduced millions of people to the exciting history of the Falls through its dedicated film and daredevil exhibition. A new theatre is in the works with an announcement planned soon.

This is so sad. It breaks my heart to see a theater just abandoned like this that too 70mm IMAX screen which is rare nowadays.

Especially if it was used for Oppenheimer? Bruh
Hope they salvaged the projector, those things still produce an insane 70mm 18k image. I heard their building a new one close by and I hope they include the old projector with the new like they did in Vancouver. Thanks for the video, last time I was there was on an elementary school Feild trip!

There's only 30 of these 70mm IMAX theaters left in the world, sad to see that massive and unique screen destroyed like that.

No IMAX theatre should be abandoned. We need more of them. Cinema needs to be revived with the best technology to compete with modern TV's and home cinema audios...
Thanks for the vid... I was visiting a few years back and thought I'd ask if I could see the projection booth... and they were more than happy to show me while running an IMAX movie... very cool to see the 70mm film, lamp and platters in action. You can see the red pump truck that they used to move the film patters in the video. Sad to hear of it's demise.

Yes, you should take your time and stop to film things properly. Your viewers can't really appreciate what you're filming if you don't take the time to film properly... that's the basic rule of filming.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I realized I'd been there. And saw a movie there. Wow.
To be honest it's pretty disgusting how we humans abandon places without dismantling them and recycling the materials.

It's sad to see this place abandoned. 70mm IMAX is so rare, and most IMAXes you find nowadays are just your standard premium large format screen competing with Cinemark XD etc, nothing really special. I guess it just got old and showed only one movie, but it would have been cool if they'd upgraded it and shown other things to keep it commercially competitive.

the problem with IMAX is the expense. Yup, it's crazy expensive even compared to regular 35 MM that's been in theaters for the last 75 years. Not only is the film expensive, but so is all the gear necessary to shoot in this format, and show it to an audience. Not everyone is willing to cough up the extra $$ for the experience.
Man I just wanted a 5 minute video and you delivered, Cool stuff.

I don't think that table was for rewinding the film, I think it was probably for constructing the film. IMAX film is 70mm and if memory serves, films were shipped in pieces and had to be cut back together on site. The final feature length film was so heavy and large, it required fork lifts or teams of people to move. The rewinding mechanism would be part of the platter the film was run off of into the projector (kinda sad none of that vintage equipment is still there).

I'm glad they're re-opening this Summer, but that pyramid building was so distinct and the Greg Frewin Theatre won't be the same. According to the website the screen was six stories high I guess the new building can accommodate that lol

It would have been cool to see all the old iMax equipment still left over up close. Sad that the speakers and sound system are all just left there to rot. Maybe they’re already no good. But 20 000 watts of sound must have been banging at one point. A shame it couldn’t be salvaged.

There should be some 50 or 60 speakers behind that screen, as well as more than that scattered around the building, for just the one theater. Including 8-ft High racks full of power amplifiers and a custom digital audio processor designed to decode the IMAX audio into thx.
Cool video you needa come to Gary Indiana to do some haunted
I would like to take those expensive speaker
Now imagine how it'd look if it was abandoned in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The screen is actually pretty valuable, depending on what type it is, some are like a diamond pattern to reflect the light correctly, others are just garbage canvas type stuff.
What a waste of seats that could be repurposed.
Aren’t IMAX speakers super high-end JBL something? As in the ones with 5 digit price tag each?

Whats the reason behind?
That pyramid looks like it was ordered on Wish.
Why did it get abandoned? Was it not enough profits so they have to move or is the building starting to decay & they don't have the money for maintenance? Looks alright to me, why would they need to expand at another building? They should have turned this one into a movie theater to make more profits that way. Or for special events. Move the Niagra film/exhibit to the other place as planned & then turn this original building into a movie theater because that giant screen would be a great attraction there.
How does a Imax theatre get abandoned. Did they build it far away from where people actually live, assuming people would go out of their way to get there?

@@colemorningstar Thanks for the information. It had to be something like that. The real estate value probably exceeded the income producing potential of the original Imax site.
These imax theater is distoryed or going to build?
14:52 did he actually just say that DMX is for sound or I misunderstood that?
To be fair it seems like the building was not really an engineering nor aesthetic masterpiece- more like a metal tent in the middle of a field of tar parking lot. I do hope the IMAX equipment lives on either installed elsewhere or as spares to keep others running. Wonder what speakers those were.
Very nice! Wow, cognitive dissonance ... an IMAX being demolished, wtf? That volume of area up above, from the catwalk, is a functional space for acoustics. It's a bass trap. Those thick fiberglass tiles on the face of that mammoth volume of air, it's a textbook bass trap. LF trapping is for tighter, faster low frequency decay times. The product being bass clarity, impact, and overall delineation. Those loudspeakers should be salvaged. One would think the seating may be salvaged. Cool vid Much appreciated
its too bad those expensive DMX light controllers and lights were all left in there without being reclaimed for use in at least an amateur's interests :/
Such a shame to see such waste. I see a lot of stuff can be salvaged and some looks in almost nearly new condition.
