This Abandoned IMAX Theatre Is So Creepy and Weird - You Won't Believe What's Inside!

The Niagara Falls IMAX® Theatre has left the iconic pyramid building behind. The theatre has been in operation for more than 35 years and has introduced millions of people to the exciting history of the Falls through its dedicated film and daredevil exhibition. A new theatre is in the works with an announcement planned soon.

Hope they salvaged the projector, those things still produce an insane 70mm 18k image. I heard their building a new one close by and I hope they include the old projector with the new like they did in Vancouver. Thanks for the video, last time I was there was on an elementary school Feild trip!

It's sad to see this place abandoned. 70mm IMAX is so rare, and most IMAXes you find nowadays are just your standard premium large format screen competing with Cinemark XD etc, nothing really special. I guess it just got old and showed only one movie, but it would have been cool if they'd upgraded it and shown other things to keep it commercially competitive.

the problem with IMAX is the expense. Yup, it's crazy expensive even compared to regular 35 MM that's been in theaters for the last 75 years. Not only is the film expensive, but so is all the gear necessary to shoot in this format, and show it to an audience. Not everyone is willing to cough up the extra $$ for the experience.

I don't think that table was for rewinding the film, I think it was probably for constructing the film. IMAX film is 70mm and if memory serves, films were shipped in pieces and had to be cut back together on site. The final feature length film was so heavy and large, it required fork lifts or teams of people to move. The rewinding mechanism would be part of the platter the film was run off of into the projector (kinda sad none of that vintage equipment is still there).

Why did it get abandoned? Was it not enough profits so they have to move or is the building starting to decay & they don't have the money for maintenance? Looks alright to me, why would they need to expand at another building? They should have turned this one into a movie theater to make more profits that way. Or for special events. Move the Niagra film/exhibit to the other place as planned & then turn this original building into a movie theater because that giant screen would be a great attraction there.

Those thick fiberglass tiles on the face of that mammoth volume of air, it's a textbook bass trap. LF trapping is for tighter, faster low frequency decay times. The product being bass clarity, impact, and overall delineation. Those loudspeakers should be salvaged. One would think the seating may be salvaged. Cool vid Much appreciated
