Yes, Mark Ronson. He's the guy who wrote this song. He wrote and produced many other popular songs as well. Yet, no one knows who he is NOR gives him any credit for this song. It all goes to Bruno. Don't misunderstand me, I really, really enjoy Bruno. But Mark deserves most of the credit, yet he'll never get it. But thanks to Asia for calling out how awesome a real band can sound. Let's hope that never goes away. I'd hate to see the day when all the music we absorb is A.I. generated.

First time i heard this song, I immediately thought some was sampled from Sequence "Funk You Up" from the late 70's or early 80's. You need to check that out, just to see if you agree (the part "Up-town funk you up" chorus). My brother bought that 12 inch vinyl single (on Sugar Hill records), so I knew the song well. Bruno Mars did a really great off-take and added even more! Love both songs.

BJ would have played trumpet or trombone. I can see it. Asia would have played a more delicate clarinet or flute, but would have given either of them life. I would call this music funk/pop - very upbeat, but funky too.
