This 40 MPH E-BIKE Will Melt Your Face Off!! * 2024 Wired Freedom Review

Hey guys, sorry for the ridiculous thumbnail and title, but seems like every other e-bike channel does the same so I don't want to get left behind..
Finally got enough miles on the Wired Freedom to do a review and share my thoughts on it. If you like the White color, let Wired know and tell them you Shoot The Chit sent you! I really do think its the best color option.

    Hey Chitheads, I accidentally said "rebound and compression" when describing the adjustments on the front fork. This is a terrible mistake, its actually Preload and Compression. I cannot begin to express how terrible I feel about this mistake. Please forgive me, I will do better (most likely I will not do better)

    I like the way the fenders look, but I don't need the rear rack and if I remove that there is no provision to mount the fender anymore so sadly I gotta get rid of them. The 2023 cruiser you can keep the fender without the rack so I left it on that bike.

    I've had my Freedom for about a month now and I love it. However, I fully agree with you about two things: A: this is a monster bike in terms of weight and size and NOT suitable for small framed individuals or elderly folks B: the front fender/light attachment is absolutely atrocious and needs to be corrected immediately. I fixed it to my satisfaction, but you shouldn't have to MacGyver a brand new bike. Otherwise, a great bike!

I will probably follow your recommendations for a shorter drivetrain and may try to find some shorter cranks. The pedals don't bother me enough to get shorter cranks. Just have to be aware of it and avoid pedaling in certain situations. I appreciate the link usage! You will like the bike, they are great for a multipurpose , you will be able to go most places on it for sure.

    I just assembled my Freedom today!!!! Will take it out tomorrow for its "Shake Down Cruise"... I swapped out the pedals for half platform one side, clip in the other for full crank rotation and better work out, smaller pedal less pedal strike while turning. Might swap handlebars out for a lower rise and longer stem. Took off fenders, headlight and rack.. Gorilla Taped the taillight to the frame until I can figure out whether to just cut the wires or mount it to frame. Will install Talus Armor.. Interested in gearing it lower as I don't need to go 40mph, would rather gear it to climb steep grades while off roading!!! Thanks for making great content!!! No CHOT!!! You do a great job!!!! Fender: Go to auto parts store and buy some spray-on rubberized undercoating. Treat the underside of fender with several coats. This should reduce the "bell" effect when hit by rocks Pedal strikes: Shorter cranks might work to eliminate. But, seriously, Wired should have done better.

    Hey bro, thanks for the detailed review of the Wired Freedom. Please keep the video's coming. I still insist that the wired freedom should had come with a key fob for starting and stop. It's been very cold here in New Jersey, so I've been unable to ride my Wired Freedom, I might not be able to ride until April by then we'll have 60 degrees. You should look into purchasing a ramp to move your bike up and down those stains. I bought a ramp from Amazon, it's 10 foot long.

    Cool video, and I have a soft spot for this bike. The cadence sensor kicking in slow is due to the controller programming and the number of magnets on the trigger wheel. I actually had to slow down response on mine because it would kick the motor on before my pedals took the slack out of the chain. The railroad test was awesome, and if I did that on my hardtail, I'd have the seat post where it doesn't belong!!

    you need more air in the shock tim. it will raise you up a little. also tighten those headlight bolts down until they feel like they are going to snap and use blue locktite and star washers. it will never move much again. thinking about your gearing situation and being a big heavy dude maybe think about shorter crank arms. that would kill two birds with one stone. pedal strikes and better granny gear. then you don't have to shorten the chain.

    Been eying this bike for a while but felt like it was a bit too expensive due to the fact that they charge almost $300 for shipping (which doesn't get revealed until checkout). Being a true believer in competition I was happy to discover yesterday that E-Cells has come out with this bike's twin brother, Five Star. Nearly identical from what I've been able to find out so far but about $300 cheaper since the aforementioned shipping is free on this one. With the demand for the Wired Freedom being what it is expect to see more direct competition in the near future.

    It was bound to happen at some point, especially since a lot of these E-bike companies use the same components on their bikes. What I can tell you is Wired is a solid company and offers great support so I kinda factor that into the price as well. Will be interesting to see how they respond.

    You can get a workout on this bike if you want to. I typically use PAS 3 and find that will go in the 20-25 range if you consistently pedal, it wont do it for you like some of the other pedal assist setups E-bikes use.

  • @Joerides7
    @Joerides75 ай бұрын

    Good review. I was seriously considering one of these bikes, but you pointed out a few deal breakers for me. Bad shifter & rear derailleur(I shift a lot), pedal strikes way too easily, delay in the pedal assist with the cadence sensor. I also don't think the battery is big enough for a high-power bike like this. That high-wattage motor will burn up the battery no doubt. I like to ride long distances.

  • @shootthechit

    @shootthechit

    5 ай бұрын

    As of now there is no "perfect" bike and if you look almost all of them have this same shifter and derailer combo. Wired at the moment is king of the hill, but who knows how long that will last. It would be cool to see a bike with a 2k watt hour battery, but it would probably weigh 100lbs at that point.

    @@shootthechit I've been shopping on a higher scale cost-wise. Bancou, Biktrix, Cyrusher, etc. Those bikes can give me most of what I want, just at a higher cost. I was interested in the Freedom for its speed. I could probably live with most of the problems, but those pedals were striking way too easily. That's an accident waiting to happen for me since I pedal all the time and lean into curves/turns.

    Just a suggestion coming from mountain biking and using e-bikes when you turn into a left turn your left leg should be up and your right leg should be down to counter the balance and you lean in and you wing your leg outward you also lean the bike outward with your arms so that you lean the bike downward and your body is still up vertical with all your weight on that right leg and there should never even be an option for pedal strike because the pedal is in the air that's the proper way to turn on a bike in vice versa leg position opposite on a right turn check out mountain biking videos when people are taking a berm turn you will see exactly what I'm talking about the same thing applies for Street riding or any other riding the only time you should pedal strike if the pedals are actually too low is when you're going over rocks and the crank arm is too long and the pedal is bottom out on some rocks and if that's the case then you just change the crank arm length to shorter crank arms otherwise it's about technique of turning

    Gonna whole heartedly agree with you on speed discussion at about 11:15. I admit to being entertained by Surron and Talaria vids, but in shopping for a bike I never wanted more than 30-32mph top speed, and really only want that so that 25mph is “easy” for the bike. If I wanted more than that I’d have looked at motorcycles. I have an Eahora Juliet that can get to 31mph when it has a full battery, but I typically limit it to 25mph on side streets using the PAS settings. It’s pretty insane crazy to be going full on motorcycle speeds on a bicycle with bike tires and brakes.

    And at 18:20 when you talk about pedal strikes, that is one of the things I noticed the most going from a completely legal 20mph class 2 bike to a cheating 25-30mph bike. You lean into turns more due to having more speed, which causes pedal strikes. I have to be very careful on my newer bikes not to wipe myself this way.

    I chose the Freedom for the same reason. It's nice to know I've got speed in reserve, but I'll be at 25 mph for the most part. This bike hit all the boxes for me, especially the larger size. I'm a fairly large man, and I didn't want to look like I was on a child's bike. I'll gladly take a little bit more weight on the bike. Just ordered my blue Freedom today. No mine doesn't. I would make sure your wheel is seated all the way in the dropout. Sometimes the tube can cause part of the tire bead to push off the wheel and make things out of balance as well. If you rotate the tire and look at it spinning sometimes you can tell if something is out of whack

    Great video! Im also not a dork. lmao. well maybe? I wonder if they put longer crank arms on them to help leverage from the larger front chain ring? That would make pedal strikes. I am a dork on that but not enough to know if you can buy shorter ones? And if you are gearing it down it wont hurt to get shorter ones if possible. I also agree on you wanting to do that. Mine is a weird 23 version 2 model with really all the fixes fixed but without the fancy suspension. I think I have a 52 chainring?. I was really looking into finding a rear cassette with the biggest granny gear. I havent. I havent had pedal strick whether Im not driving where it would or it dont happen as much idk? I did bent my front brake rotor and instead of replacing it I thought why not just upgrade it to 203mm. It was my fault for ruining original. I love mine though! Oh also the front wheel shaking back and forth did happen to my wired. I wonder if its because the front fork slop like you showed in your video. I wired has the same as you cruiser. Love the vid! TY

  • @shootthechit

    @shootthechit

    5 ай бұрын

    I think the front fork issue on the cruiser is due to the headtube angle being too steep on that bike.. thats my theory at least. I'm pretty sure you can get shorter crank arms , just a matter of swapping them out. I found the 11-34 chainring on Amazon, I think the cruiser comes with a 11-28 stock so that will help a bit. Haven't found one bigger than a 34 though

    My 2024 Freedom was ordered in APR & was due to ship at end May, then postponed for the bonuses till end June. When it showed up the UPS man asked me to help get off truck its so heavy. The top of the box was ripped off from middle to 1 end with many holes along sides. It looked like a bear attacked it. When I opened it up I immediately saw many scratches in paint. I was bout to put together when I noticed no tool for handlebars or manual to put this together. So I went on their chat help & in the end it came missing manuals, tool,2nd battery charger, touch up paint, headlight, & PEDALS... so they send me the accessory box which took 4 days (mind you I took my vaca from work for the day of the delivery) & its missing the touch up paint. From this point on the Wired customer service chat was unhelpful & rude. I asked them how the batteries work is it frame batt till drained then rear kicks in? & they said it was a 'blendid' function that draws off both... So I told them that i purposely drained my batt to 60% on display & when went to charge both only the rear was at 60% while frame batt was 100%, so its not blending.... I like to pedal so I turn the motor options off (set to 0) & quickly found out that gears 1-6 make the chain skip on every rotation... They told me to take it to a bike shop for a derailer adjustment or watch a youtube vid on how do it myself...2400.00+shipping & this is the product I got & customer service to go with it FUCK WIRED

    I really would love to own one of these, I'm looking to buy another E-bike as soon as possible because I cracked the frame of my daily. The pre-order option on the Wired website has me shying away a bit. I don't mind a wait of two weeks or something like that but I would like to have a replacement as soon as possible. I won't want to buy it at a later date so it's either I go for it now or look at other brands that I could possibly buy locally. None of those brands come close to the specs of the Wired Freedom though.
