    Magic Lantern was not a company. It was a sort of loose consortium of hackers/programmers who viewed this camera as a fun project.

    @@berat9826 nope, I think it’s just the eos-m and maybe the m2. Canon closed the loophole as soon as they could with the rest of the m series by using different software. Unfortunately canon is one of those companies that makes great hardware but handicaps its software to force you to buy more expensive gear. I have the m6 mark ll that can output uncropped 4k 10 bit over clean hdmi but they intentionally left out 24 fps just to force users to buy something more expensive for cinema use. This should be a wakeup call for camera companies to open source their firmware. Imagine the value add of being able to customize your camera's firmware to meet fit your needs and shooting style!

  • @TheCruisinCrew

    @TheCruisinCrew

    Not ever going to happen (open source)... you have to understand these companies want to make money selling new cameras, they have no incentive to keep old cameras alive. The one exception is Fuji who regularly update their cameras and add serious new features...

  • @TheCruisinCrew

    @@LimitedWard As I said, first and foremost Canon wants to sell new cameras. There's no upside for them to open anything up, because there's no profit in it for them. Google is a bad example, because they're not trying to make money with their software, they make money with the data they collect and sell to advertisers... ;)

  • @LimitedWard

    @LimitedWard

    @@TheCruisinCrew fair enough, Chrome is not the best example. But I still don't see how my idea is at odds with Canon's goal to sell more cameras. Adding a public API (or plugin system) to their firmware would add value to all their cameras new and old. Adding value should translate to more people buying their cameras. Having a customizable firmware doesn't improve dynamic range, increase megapixel count, or improve other fundamental characteristics of the camera, so customers will still choose to upgrade over time to get those improved features. Perhaps smartphones would be a better example. People upgrade their smartphones every few years despite their current phone receiving regular updates. They upgrade because the new phone offers new/better features than the old one. The same would hold true for cameras.

  • @TheCruisinCrew

    @@LimitedWard I'm all for it, I just don't think it's going to happen... Pro / Semi-Pro cameras like these are not mass market products... they're very niche and the fact that none of the manufacturers have done anything like what you're proposing should tell you something about their business model. Sony for example has been notorious to milk their old tech for years by essentially updating the software and just using the same old sensors and if you want that little shiny new feature they added, you need to buy a brand new camera and hopefully still get a few good bucks back for your old one on eBay... ;) But hey, you should definitely contact Canon and co. to suggest an API and see what they say...

Because you could also film raw with ML on the 5D's, but i could only get some seconds out of it, maybe max a minute or so, it was quite the hassle, even with fast cf cards, i just gave up in the end.

    It would be cool if somebody brought out a camera that's like this but completely opensource like raspberry PI. The big cameras are cool but there's just something about big performance in a small body. This is the opinion of someone who recently fell into this photography scene due to aglos. I don't know much but after seeing a bunch of videos I began to think of how cool it would be if there was a rich photography teacher who bought "obsolete" gear such as the Sony f35 for students who're newbies but are very serious about getting into photography & video.

Shot my first short film on it in 2015, and got screened at my local film festival. Absolutely incredible the amount of extra features that were added with Magic Lantern. I never met another person who had ever heard of this camera in person. The response I'd always get from people "What camera is that...? Never heard of it." Really glad to meet another Eos M ML enthusiast! Have you messed around with the ultra low framerate options in video that basically allow almost nightvision?

    @@35mm21 Totally! I also never met one single person in my day to day adventures to knew what an M camera was. I'd always hear 'what camera is that? - never heard of it."

    You have links to three lenses listed, but nothing more to find the Tokina/Agneaux lens. A link to something, please?

    Originally limited lens offerings hurt this little guy. Glad that is being finally recognized. A late friend - a former TV News photog - got one as a present from his spouse.

    Okay but does it *support* an external SSD? Because at that quailty, I want to record to an NVMe drive in an SSD enclosure connected via USB-3, like you can on a BMPC4k/6k. There is no way I'm recording 2TB to an SD card.

    I had an EOS M back in 2012-2014 but I sold it because of the *extremely* slow autofocus. I tried to photograph my 4 and 6-year-old children but after too many blurry images I sold it and bought an Sony A6000. Maybe EOS M a landscape and/or cinema camera?

    What version of ML are you using? You have options available that I'm not seeing...presets for instance.
