You can get it without tools or storage or hacking. There have been many instances of players getting it by normal means. Just search on KZread for all of 3 seconds

Nah I definitely got that 1up as well. IIRC it was like slightly less than a 50% chance of actually getting it. I get mental about missing tiny details so I’d restart and restart until the run was perfect (got the shroom). Maybe it’s a ROM or something that has this issue

How has it taken 25 years to collect a 1-up? I'm being honest when I say this: On my first ever playthrough of Super Mario 64 a couple years ago, when I went to Cool Cool Mountain, I found this shortcut and managed to collect it first try without knowing it was there!

A lot of people think that a TAS is a bot that just does thing perfectly on its own, that is not the case. What we're seeing are macros playing in realtime, prerecorded inputs using frame advancing tools. Imagine a TAS as a time stop animation.

Since it was tool assisted it wouldn't have mattered. Would have just wasted 3 hours of AFK time. Also it's actually impossible to fall there anyway- at least intentionally. It's a fully sealed tunnel. Only way would be to glitch out with an exploit, if that is even possible

If you watch the video you will see that the video gave credit to the person (who in my opinion deserves the shout out because a lot of work was put in making the tas). First of all, they can’t really update these games, they release them and can’t do anything about them, the most they can do is take the game off shelves and put an updated one on shelves, but for the most part, there are never updates, it mostly just slipped the mind of Nintendo i guess lol

You can get it without tools or storage or hacking. There have been many instances of players getting it by normal means. Just search on KZread for all of 3 seconds

Nah I definitely got that 1up as well. IIRC it was like slightly less than a 50% chance of actually getting it. I get mental about missing tiny details so I’d restart and restart until the run was perfect (got the shroom). Maybe it’s a ROM or something that has this issue

Since it was tool assisted it wouldn't have mattered. Would have just wasted 3 hours of AFK time. Also it's actually impossible to fall there anyway- at least intentionally. It's a fully sealed tunnel. Only way would be to glitch out with an exploit, if that is even possible

If you watch the video you will see that the video gave credit to the person (who in my opinion deserves the shout out because a lot of work was put in making the tas). First of all, they can’t really update these games, they release them and can’t do anything about them, the most they can do is take the game off shelves and put an updated one on shelves, but for the most part, there are never updates, it mostly just slipped the mind of Nintendo i guess lol

It's not like he just said "computer, collect the 1-up for me please". The routing and planning is done by a human and this was no easy feat as it had been an unsolved challenge for years in the TAS community.

Tbh the video creator makes it ambiguous when he says "he got a TAS bot"; it makes people think TAS'ing is getting a robot/AI to figure out how to play a game perfectly when that's not the case at all

@@ericsmith718 it's not changing the game, it's just giving the console a list of inputs to press in what order and at what time. The point is to do something that would be allowed by the game but impossible for humans to do, such as collect this 1-up

I was born the same year this game came out and this video makes me feel old.
Feels like a programming bug, honestly. That 1-UP is easily collectible in the DS remake, if memory serves.
