    Great review! I been doing the digicam thing for awhile, one of the best finds was a nearly mint condition Sony Cybershot DSC-w150. Picked it up for $2.00 ( charity sale ) had case, memory stick, charger and 3 batteries, the 8 mpx CCD sensor is amazing! I still have 2 mpx cameras that I enjoy shooting. CCD sensors have a real appeal! I would say 5-10 mpx is a sweet spot! Thanks for sharing!

    Oh look a periscope lens camera! This sort of construction is SEVERELY underrated. It seems they are inherently very low chromatic aberration, which helps. I had its predecessor the Minolta Dimage X20. It came with a sticker on the side explaining the lens, and the original Dimage X has another breakdown as a paintover in the promotion pictures. I was surprised by how well the lens and the sensor performed, though the rest of the camera could have been better. Oh mine's dead due to SONY sensor plague of 2003. I still use a mid 2000s Pentax Optio W10 which is also a periscope lens, just oriented differently, more sneaky. Went on a vacation with friends and shot amazing pictures with it, with advantage that i had a hip belt holster for it and just always in reach and you can go swim with it, it's quick, it's one-handed, it reads well in sunlight, live peaking, over-exposure warning and histo, helpful modes, lots of fun. You can still get Ricoh and Nikon periscope lens cameras, but back in the day a whole bunch of companies were making them, Samsung etc. The modern crop of remaining ones cost a premium but are designed to take an extreme beating. Periscope lens makes it possible. Oh btw Zeiss branding, don't pay attention. The lens is likely to be of Minolta origin. Which is fine too. Before SONY absorbed Konica Minolta, they often bought Canon lenses and slapped the Zeiss logo on there. :D

    I recently bought a Sony DSC-TX7 (2010 version) for around £75 and it's amazing. Photos look relatively clear with just the right amount of noise. Sure Dynamic Range is not as good as iPhones today, same with video stability and performance, but you're not buying these types of cameras for that anymore. You're buying them for the old school style

    One point not mentioned or thought about is the near totally sealed body and lens that eliminates “debris” being sucked into the lens assembly crashing it or dust winding up on the sensor.

    Thanks, Enjoyed your ideas about your T7 camera. I'm age 84, I was given an old Sony DSC T9 camera by my grand daughter, thought it was toy-like, kinda set it aside. I also have a camera bag with unused Minolta SRT-101 film SLR with kit and zoom lenses, etc., have been tempted to try some film photos again, but don't like the cost of film and processing and waiting for return of negs and prints. Started fiddling with the DSC T9 and began to think that maybe this is a usable point and shoot, still and video, suited to my current needs. Meanwhile, I've been watching videos about the Canon Rebel T7 DSLR, reasonable price new, with some limitations. I think that I'll continue to learn the DSC T9 settings and the process of saving pix to my PC and printing stills on my Epson printer. At age 84, I don't get around much so really don't need a "serious" DSLR. Maybe I can sell my Minolta SRT 101, etc. and feel better about buying a DSLR just for the fun of it.

    Hi Gary! Thanks so much for watching and for your comment! I think your t9 would be lots of fun! They are more capable than they appear. I also have an srt-101. Great camera but I agree about the high costs of shooting film right now. I have some more modern Fujifilm cameras, but the smaller cameras such as the t7/t9 also provide a lot of fun for a low cost. I think it’s great that you’re actively taking pictures! I hope you continue to do so. Thank you again for being here, have a great day!

  • @cameraclubdiaries

    @cameraclubdiaries

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it! These were actually minimally edited. One cool thing about the older CCD sensor cameras is that the colors they produce and the “noise” aka graininess kind of give a retro feel by default, hence them growing in popularity. That said, there are things you can do to help get that feel in your edits. Adding grain, a warmer white balance, pastel-y blues, and slightly green shadows are some things to consider playing with. What camera and editing software are you using? Thanks again!
