Something to note, these oem hp desktops use a proprietary 18 pin power connecter. If you want to upgrade the power supply you'll need a 24 pin to 18 pin power connector adapter.

​​@@charliesretrocomputing Only the smallest form factors use proprietary connectors. A good portion of mid and full tower versions use standard ATX power supplies. Even my BTX Optiplex 755 uses a regular ATX supply. Though some SFF models just use Flex ATX models instead.

The first gaming desktop I had was my father’s office desktop back in 2016 with a Core 2 quad Q8400 and I paired it with a GTX 750 Ti and upgraded the ram from 4GB to 8GB and added a 256GB SSD. It performed quite decently at the time.

this is what i did for my very first ever pc, i paired it with a 750 ti with a molex to a 4 pin connector adapter

I just retired my HP Z420 Xeon E5-1650 v2 machine. This came with a 600W PSU with 2 x 6-pin pci-e connectors. This system has a little more CPU power with 6 cores/12 threads and the PSU really opens up your GPU options. I used a 2 x 6-pin to 1 x 8-pin pci-e adapter cable to run an RX 6650 XT and it ran like a champ. Those old HP servers can still be found on eBay for cheap and are a great choice for budget builds.

Congrats on that amazing find. Not long ago I paid $50 for ONLY that i7 cpu. How did you manage 16gb plus serviceable drives? Did you pick it up yourself? Shipping on a full size pc can be expensive

Running a 4790k, no complaints. Great value for the price. Lots of used ITX mobos for'em available cheap. You can F around and get mobo/RAM/CPU combo for $75 still.

this is the build i use and ive no complaints. my HDD is a 4tb Seagate 7200 RPM, the SSD is a WD Green 120gb, and i got the MSI ITX version of the 1060 3gb. I use CAS and the Steam Deck Performance Mod in Starfield and have no issues with it, it plays nearly 60 fps in Robocop Rogue City (75% scaling TSR) medium and it looks gorgeous in my older Dell 1050p monitor (im not in a hurry to upgrade). Its been my build for a while now, and it has an OEM Dell XPS mobo, along with a 750w PSU (its a brand name just cant remember) and as well the 16gb is a big help, as is overclocking (and overvolting) the 1060, it will gain noticeable performance increases. Its all in a RoG Strix GD30 case and a lil extra RGB. Im in no hurry yet to change up, maybe next year.

I have the exact same Hp z230, with the exception of using i7 4771, ram upgraded to 24GB, and using Gtx 1650 gddr6 gpu. This thing is really powerful it can even runs starfield smoothy

Are there any benefits in using the parts of a same brand to build your pc? For example, using ASUS monitor(s) with ASUS gpu and ASUS motherboard etc.

This is pretty close to my $40 PC. I got a HP pavilion with an i5 7400 for free. Picked up a Rx 480 4gb and $16gb of ram for $50 then sold the stock ram for $10. I was worried about the 300w PSU but haven't had any issues even when stress testing the CPU and GPU at the same time. Time Spy score of 4379 with the 329th fastest RX 480 after an overclock. What's even crazier about that is that it's an OEM HP Rx 480 with a stock TDP of 110 compared to the normal 150W. I raised the power limit to 150w in adrenaline to match normal Rx 480s but I wouldn't go higher bc 6pin+pci-e can only supply 150w.

I've done a similar build with an i5 4590, and a 1050ti, that thing is pretty good for entry level gaming, and esports titles, it could run fortnite performance mode 100%res scale with 114fps average

1:56 Businesses usually replace their whole hardware stack every 5 years. As per which cards you can use, the PCIe standard is backwards compatible. You can plug a modern card in an earlier slot, but you're gonna lose performance.

Can you make a 1800€ PC? My friend has that budget and I think I've done a good job at picking the parts (AM5 All white build but Black GPU). I would love to see if I made a mistake somewhere that I could choose something that fits the request and is better. Thanks!

The problem is, RX 6000 series are made for Re-BAR. It's also optimized for PCI-E 4.0 and the RX 6600, only has 8 lanes. Must get RX 67xx for 16 lanes. Or get an earlier card, such as RX 5600 XT. Navi10 does not need Re-BAR at all. IIRC, Navi10 has 16 lanes. Navi10 is RDNA1. RDNA2 is made for Re-BAR. Also, RX 5500 XT only has 8 lanes.

I'm so happy! I just got a PC left unused by my dad's optometry practice and it had an i5 9400 and 32gb of RAM! I'm going to put (most likely 'cause I'm on a budget) an rx 580 8gb in it.

Just built a used $100 pc. Bought a pc for $60 with an i5 7400 16gb ddr4 a gigabyte motherboard and a corsair power supply and then I bought a 1060 that was listed as a 3gb but ended up being a 6gb for $40 off Craigslist

Now let's get a $100 Gaming PC that plays every game in 1080p.

Hah, I love it. I literally just built a computer out of spare parts, spent 30€ on a motherboard and 1080p monitor (some old SyncMaster from 2009) and it has an i7-4790 and 16GB DDR3. I paired it with a GTX 1060 but 6GB version, which was free because of liquid damage which took me a good bit to thoroughly clean and repaste. I can definitely confirm 60 FPS in Helldivers 2, though I run it on medium preset, it's so CPU limited that all 8 threads are working very very hard to keep it going, so my 1060 is barely jogging to keep up anyway. The i7-4790 is a great choice because of the 4 cores 8 threads. It's still perfectly serviceable to game on 8 threads in 2024, but you REALLY don't want less than that. I got a few friends with comparable PCs playing Helldivers 2, and it runs like a bucket of butts for them because their 4th-6th gen i5's only have 4 cores 4 threads. Kinda wish I had the i7-4790K as I have a lot of thermal headroom, even under 100% all core load it's only pushing 73°C, I could overclock it a good bit if it let me.

the 4790 and 4790K are still pretty good, my first build 2 years ago rocked the 4790K with a 1660 Super also these days the 1060 3GB is more of a 720/900p card, pairing with one of those monitors (since they're also cheaper) would go perfect since it'd look better than running at those resolutions on a 1080p monitor, something like a 900p 75Hz monitor would be a real good sweetspot and it'd still be under $150 cause those old 900p75 monitors are dirty cheap, it's sad how badly that GPU aged though, when it came out it was definitelly a PS4 Pro killer, now even the 6GB one can barely keep up with the base PS4 in modern titles funny enough, it still beats the Steam Deck in performance lol, now I think, I wonder how would games run exactly at 800p like the Steam Deck

I have gtx1060 and fx8350x (motherboard and powersupply broke, and now im on r5600g, but that doesnt matter), and even after that long time, my old gtx1060 which isnt even 4gb, but 3gb works perfectly fine on all games, you can easily play cs2 at 140fps average (on min settings, but no issues on higher either, just want some more fps, you know XD) and im pretty happy about it, now im planning to get myself a rtx3050 or rtx3060 for my budget and then my pc will be a beast for 6 more years i guess. Btw nice video, like your content!

But to be honest, i dont know ANYTHING about helldivers, but i just checked the system requirements and the minimum is 1050ti, its worse than 1060 so i guess it will have no problems playing it. You can do research by yourself, check the benchmarks, what system requirements does the game have and other things, thats not that hard. i dont do any videos now because literaly nobody were wathing, i have lile 70 videos 30min each, and only some has more than 30 views. How GPU's draw power -- 6-pin PCIe connector provides 75W max, PCIe slot (the card is plugged into) provides up to 75W for a Total of 150W Max. 8-pin PCIe connector provides 150W max, PCIe slot (the card is plugged into) provides up to 75W for a Total of 225W Max. SATA Power connector provides 54W which is why the 6-pin adapter connects to (2) SATA power connectors to get that 75W needed.

The RTX3050 6GB is a Dream for someone like me who prioritizes Power consumption sinec electric price is high and for an RT card with 5W less that the 1650 GDDR6 I have is a massive WIN in my book

All it cost around 170$ in my currency (the three things i bought separately and im waiting for them so i can build my first ever pc in my life🎉) also in the hp office desktop is a i3 2120 so i bought the i7 but i don’t know if the psu will handle it but whatever.

I builded it with hd7770 2gb before. It cost me around $88 for all parts . And indeed this PC literally for gaming. Wow I was amazed with that at first but when the time flew. I realized that the cost of KwH much more crazy than my am 4 build 😂.

I'm currently using a laptop with low/underpowered i5 5th gen cpu and intel hd graphics (IGPU) and 2x4 4gb ddr3 ram. It was made for only workload, but the hd graphics is can run onlder games like l4d2, tf2 with some configurations, borderlands 2 on lowest settings, yes its that bad. I started using it when I got is as an gift. Love your videos tho.

I done similar same workstation but with Xeon and I put a 950 total cost £80 quid although that's adding 25 for the 950 as that's the current selling price on eBay technically I had it laying around

My dad has 4 Dell XPS office desktops (One of them has a 2TB HDD and has been retrofitted into a local server that the other computers back up to for data safety) that are almost a decade old (if not already) and they've been slowing down. From what I remember off the top of my head, here's what they run on: - a 6th gen Intel i7 @3.4GHz - 2 cores, 4 threads - Intel HD Integrated Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 2GB VRAM - 8GB DDR4 - 2 X 4GB (UEFI shows 2/4 DIMM slots used) - 1TB HDD (I don't know the speed) He has said that he will eventually have to upgrade from these - is it worth it to try and upgrade these PCs to extend their use?
