A tree planted deep in the forest actually gets some frost protection from the microclimate, so the more biomass you have around the paw paw tree, the better it's chance of surviving sudden frosts in April or mid spring. Having the paw paw tree higher above ground (cold air sinks) and protected by structures or environments (fences, sheds, and large bodies of water can emit heat in the paw paw tree's microclimate) may also help resist these frosts.

My question is when digging plant suckers (moving them to other locations for for fresh genes) does these suckers develop a tap root? When digging they only have very shallow horizontal roots from the "mother".

Such good detailed information on a much desired fruit tree. I just planted two seedlings(12in) on a corner underneath a big tree in my back yard I have two more grafted trees that are a little larger than the seedlings I will be planting this week just worried about the exposure to the afternoon’s sun here in San Antonio Texas where our sun can and dose kill trees the area a have chosen will get morning sun and some afternoon sun before my large pecan tree shades it. I will be putting a 70% sun cover don’t know how it will do with the heat where it gets into the three digits. I’m hoping once it gets larger it can take our scorching sun so I can remove the sun protection. If they weren’t so expensive I’d be doing a lot of trials to see where they will flourish here in central Texas but for now I will see how these do on my 1/2 acre yard. Thank you

In the Q&A, someone asked about pots for seeds. She said "tall 1 tree pot". Where do you buy these? Pummerts?? I couldn't understand what she said

Who can I talk to so I can be a pawpaw farmer? I've been considering this for a while, but need some guidance. Thanks
