I can't stop staring at that ice cream box LOL... great video thanks Alex
Red Beard Ops also did a couple of vids on 'upgrading' these little mills which is worth checking out if you haven't already

Great tutorial. Thanks
That's awesome! Loved the video buddy! Loved the rotary table! I was sure you had one of those! Wish I had a smaller mill with a DRO!
Keep making chips and enjoying the making. 👏👏👏
Excellent video for anyone buying a first mill, (I've just bought a sieg myself) good advice on the likely necessary accessories. Thanks!

Make sure you insert the er collet into the nut before screwing it onto the holder then insert you bit and it should not run out unless it’s just cheaply made.

In my case they're just cheaply made
If you haven’t done so yet ,make the time to install the belt drive. Also you might have been showing the er collets just as a quick illustration but er collets should always be snapped into the nut before placing them into the chuck. That could be adding to your runout.

Yeah, I have the belt drive upgrade kit from Little Machine Shop sitting there. Haven't taken the time to put it on yet as I've just been way too flat out with my work thus far. I've done all manner of tests on the collets and found they're just badly made lol I've slowly been replacing them as I need them with MT3 collets that go straight into the drive shaft, and have gotten SUPER good results from it.

@@ValhallaIronworks the comment on the collets was based on very limited info The comment on the belt drive was because I had the belt drive for 5 years before I installed it and now totally regret not making the time to install it my mindset was “ the noise isn’t that bad and doesn’t really bother me” but after I installed it the mill was soooo much more enjoyable to use and the results were infinitely better. Partly because I was able to hear subtle differences that the cutter made allowing me to adjust speeds and feeds much easier👍
Thanks, am about to pull the trigger and this was very helpful

Lolz so here we are a year later and my mill is en route from Melbourne...for reals this time. I was just reading through the comments to see if I had thanked you already for your video 🤣
I might have some advise: you showed how you put your collets in the holder, thst appears to me to be not the right way. One should always out the collet into the nut first, it snaps into place there, and then screw the nut onto the chuck. Something to try out, it is more convenient I think. You can also put the tool into the collet before screwing it in, the nut gives enough preload to hold the tool stadily. Also convenient for if the chuck is installed in the mill.

Yep, I'm aware. This wasn't meant to be a how-to video, though, so I was just being indicitive (collet go in collet shaped hole).

@@ValhallaIronworks alright. Just thouht I'd point it out :)
Thanks! It appears Harbor Freight here in the States sells the same machine for about $900. Looks like the upgrades and tooling took your investment to about twice that, but you're using it and liking it, so it's all good.

That's about consistent with what I paid! But yes, the tooling is where the real investment is!

@ValhallaIronworks Can you show how to make knife with this milling machine?
@ValhallaIronworks

You wouldn't use it to make an entire knife. You would use it for certain processes required in knifemaking, such as recessing bearing rings, cutting fullers and lock-bars, etc. All of these things are just standard milling operations and many others have done far better videos on those things than I could. I recommend the channel Blondihacks if you're wanting to learn - she has an entire playlist just on how to get started using a milling machine.
What's wrong with your audio ? I can't hear you 😮

Given that everyone else in the comments heard me just fine, I'd say it's something wrong with YOUR audio, not mine
