The icons serve as an image of the Lord, Blessed theotokos or the saint. We do not worship the wood and paint, rather we venerate the person shown. It’s akin to a picture you keep of someone you love.

@@sneedchuck8135 If there is no divine aspect portrayed in the image, then it is not the Lord being portrayed but a disgrace to Him since images such as those are portraying the Lord in a Nestorian way. As the great St. Athanasius, viewed as a Patriarch by some said. "For ye carve the figures for the sake of the apprehension of God, as ye say, but invest the actual images with the honor and title of God, thus placing yourselves in a profane position." Against the Heathen ch.21.1 p.15

@@aCatholicOne, wrong. It is the other way around. It is you, who hold a nestorian view. We do not depict a nature, but a Person, since nature couldn't exist in any other way only in Hypostasis. Therefore, if you say that when we depict Christ on an icon, we only depict only His "human aspect", then you have divided His natures, and destroyed His Person. This is anathema! Admit that what you wrote was stupid and repent before it’s too late.
