tirkdiamond Because most people who work from home don’t have to plan lessons to teach BEFORE the next day, teach during the day including checking in with students, mark all their work so no-one feels they haven’t been forgotten because they’ll often be completing at different times (whereas usually a “pat yourselves on the back...great work!” does for a classroom), then planning for the next day. Checking in on students who weren’t there, setting up activities for students who don’t have access to computers or internet etc.

This is funny but true! Things that work.... I mute them all and call on them one at a time to answer to keep attention, share my screen to show related videos and use my active inspire board to type. Also, they use hand signals when they want to share something to the entire group and must wait to be called upon! This is all new but, I am just grateful each day I get to see my kiddos. I love and miss them soooooo much! Thanks for making this video and giving us the opportunity to share!

  • @femmeNikita27

From another side of the fence: if you care as a teacher kids don't show up and don't feel like learning anyway. Since they think that they don't have to work if they are not out of home, parents accept it and don't care. Majority of them doesn't show up. If they show up they don't even switch on the camera. When you explain things they mute their mics. When you ask questions they keep quiet. You try to keep your and their morale up but at the end of the day you can only feel sorry for their parents and wonder how this lost and lazy generation is going to survive brutal job market of the future. But before sleep you just say to yourself I'm glad I wasn't that stupid as a kid and another one is after all it's their choice not mine and thank God this is not my own child.

More like a half an hour of the teacher waiting for everyone to "show up" and get everyone's mics and headphones working....then 10 seconds of teaching a new lesson....then another 30 minutes repeating it to all the other kids because they weren't paying any attention. The teachers should just make their lesson into a youtube video and if the kids have questions, they can do a scheduled 1-on-1 like college.....done, fixed the education system.

High school student here: I agree with a lot of your points, video conferencing lessons can be really hard to set up and I can understand that repeating the lesson would be frustrating; but I would argue that they are worth it for discussion and social engagement. In addition, asking questions at the end of a 6-hour school day is very taxing, (honestly doing anything after a 6 hour school day on zoom is lol) so having that time when you can ask questions related to the subject material right after you learned it is much easier, at least for me. Hope this helped give another perspective!
