Things To Look For When Buying A Honda Prelude

This man knows what he's talking about. One thing to add, if the power steering pump whines it might it might not be the pump. I had a Prelude and an Element both do this. The O-ring on the PS fluid intake line at the pump degrades, and it starts sucking air making a whine. Replace the O-ring and the noise goes away.

I have a silver 2001 prelude with some issues, and going to be fixing them up soon. Oil leaks, oil consumption, sudden new trans issues, water seal issues, ac compressor clutch burnout, suspension issues, the key wear...yep. you called it all out. I'm just glad I'm not alone!

Thanks for this video…good pointers & helpful as I’ve been looking for a ‘97 - ‘01 Prelude. 5-speed, 1-owner, no rust whatsoever, low miles, recent timing belt change, all maintenance records, never wrecked, clean, & black in color.

Prelude content is always a blessing! Beautiful car! Cheers:)
Thanks for the video, i recently bought a 97 vtec and this information will help me in the future, the surprise is that im facing a few issues, like the key wear, the high oil consumption and a small oil leak in a old tube, the old owner already prevented the water on the trunk and changed the old tubes, but in general is a good car and still have the soul with 233k km
Just bought a 97 Prelude two days ago so this is all hugely valuable information for me so I'm now a new subscriber with the bell rung! Please keep your vids rolling in. Thank you!

I've had issues with the trunk leaking I've had issues with my driver side low beam not working and disabling my turn signal. Oh the windshield wipers broke after I parked under a tree for a year.. That was my bad. Theres a little piece of plastic behind the break pedal that broke off. So if that breaks your taillights stays on forever... I learned so much about preludes through prelude power... Having said all of that, I love this car .

Found a prelude a dude is selling for $850. Auto. Dont know miles yet. Trans going out but still drivable, and it'll come with a new trans. The body looks good. Im hoping the trans is the only major thing wrong for a 99 prelude for $850. I'm glad i know to check for all of this stuff now. If i buy it, I'll manuel swap it one day. I still need to learn to drive standard.

That’s a beautiful car.
thinking of getting a 5th gen prelude next, wanting a manual under 100k miles with the 2.2L, im not too bothered about topping oil off because my current car goes through oil like theres no tomorrow, overall they seem like very solid cars if they've been looked after

Haha indeed I wasn’t! I was born in 03 so this car is older than me!
The oil issue is all cars I would blame the previous owner but who knows I got lucky when I bought a 93 Honda I checked around the plugs and everywhere. The only oil leak I have is coming around the main seal and I’ll change it when I change the clutch 198,000 miles on it. When you fix the keys, keep your old unit and you can get a Tumblr kit or a lock and take the parts out of it repair your lock and keep your old keys.

Might be grabbing one this week, what part of Oregon you in?
The 5Gen nice 💪
I have 98 SH since 32,000 miles...now 130,000. it is leaking oil. Definitly keep the oil topping off to keep the engine purring!
who knows if youll answer after this long but i was wodnering what kind of side mskers ate those???

I'm looking at a Honda Prelude 99, but it has 221,000km should I take a look or steer away

I've had 3 preludes, 1991, 1993, 1996, 2 turboed. CV joints.. god i hate cv joints. Put some power and lose traction and bam replacing a cv joint tomorrow.. I dont think I ever had any oil issues. I blew the 91s transmission (manual) but that was my first car and i drove it like an idiot
