I don't know, why I'm always getting recommended these "foreign person now living in Germany" type of videos, because it's not the kind of stuf I woud normally watch, but its always interesting to know, how people view us from an outside perspective and what the cultural differences are!

For all those reasons, I married an American. I'm German born and raised. Dated a few German guys. I could never get warm with them. Meaning, they are to stur for me. I don't like a date planned out by him alone. If he invites me to dinner, I don't expect to pay half. It never happen to me when an American man asks me to dinner, that he would even asked me to pay half for it.Seems like things have changed since I lived in Germany. I was never asked to pay half of the dinner.

Good afternoon Anna🌺 German or Austrian Ladies usually have the self-confidence and the right to do things on their own, specially for paying the bill, but manners are also important for me as well. So open the door for her, let the lady choose the table, taking the bill, helping with the chair are things I like to do, but that's up to every man and what he expects from the date.

I'd argue that "chivalry" is dead but being helpful isn't. Symbolic gestures which are just there to show your support but hardly useful from a rational standpoint (opening car doors, carrying bags or coats which have basically no weight, flowers which have no place and will be dead in a few hours) are avoided but things which actually save work and effort (like keeping a door open if you already had to open it) or only one partner can actually do (like driving someone when the other person doesn't have a car, carrying heavy stuff, repairing stuff, cooking special meals) are still very much appreciated. You usually have to ask though as being pushy or assuming someone's intentions is also discouraged. (Many German women simply view the "mind reading lady's man" as annoying and patronizing, and men adopted. Same thing with paying for random stuff even though you have enough money yourself, many men think they are now entitled to some kind of compensation and women usually want to avoid that. If you are in an already established relationship and one person makes far more money paying for your partner is pretty common though, again, being practical, rational and independent are the most important virtues).

Yeah "special" in the German sense of the word LOL It can really be stressful. Chivalry is not only dead it is forgotten too...My last boyfriend actually asked me why he should carry up a case of beer in my car....Duh...because you are the stronger one and I cant?? I mean I helped him clean his whole house when he moved so I think he can bring up a crate of beer...But he really didn't understand. and presents? What are those? not even valentines day. Now to be fair he is much younger than I am and some older guys have more old school behaviors...But anyone under 40 forget it! Also on a first date you can't find out anything about them...They will pump you for information but answer your questions with one word answers.

  • @juliushauck3981

nope. That's pretty usual as they both are obligated to care about the kid together. You can't really do so without contact and it's way smoother if you can do that in a friendly way instead of having to fight each other all the time. There's a reason why they splitted up, but also a reason why they liked each other. So enough for having a nice talk but not enough for more above that. At least usually, you can never predict something for sure.

When they have a deeper conversation with you, things are going well. When they want to see you again as soon as possible, things are going very well. When they suggest going on a walk together, their interest in you is very likely of a romantic nature. However, If you simply have a conversation about an obvious shared interest (e.g. you meet at a gaming convention and only talk about games) and plan to meet to follow a shared interest (studying for an exam, going to a sports match and you know she likes the sport and would have gone without you) - she likes you as a person, but you can't tell at all if she is interested in a relationship or just in a friendship.

There are men in Germany who have forgotten how to be "attentive". I am german and i open the door for women, carry heavy bags, slide the chair underneath... For me, this is not a question of equality. I like and protect women and carry them on hands without being submissive. It is nice when women enrich my environment and are part of my appreciation. I am sometimes a little macho... I don't cry around, sometimes I bleed without noticing, but I am still empathic and I like to give honest compliments. I don't like sissies, assholes, lazy guys and pasha's. What I don't like about women is the tendency to demand a man with more feeling and empathy or even to raise him as a mum to be a "modern man" and then look for a real "asshole" as a friend because he is so manly and beats her. This is crazy and the girls have themselves to blame. Please stop this shit. If a (german) friend is not attentive, you have chosen the wrong one. Don't let this be sold to you as equal rights. Sure, women want to be equal and that's right, but that's why you can still make an effort for them. Men-haters, women who play their femininity off as a quota and man-women have to answer for the consequences of their actions themselves. Women do not have to play the male role in their job or family. We need femininity...no second guy. You make the difference...and you are wonderful that way.

Hmmmm...I believe you may have not picked up the signs that these men didn’t like you as much as you thought they did? I must be in Germany for work soon, and have already had multiple chivalrous offers in abundance from german men I met online. Our relationships developed into meaningful ones via FaceTime and phone. So far I have had offers to pick me up from the airport and to stay with them, and have all my meals cooked, drive me to work- everything has been arranged and offered once our relationship got to be important to eaciother. I don’t mean this offensively, but it is quite obvious that your ex was talking to other women when he was in chille, not because all German men don’t communicate! That is absolute nonsense. All the best xo

The first girl that entered our circle of male friends set the tone quit differently from what our parents did. She did not like us to open doors or carry her stuff. She just wanted to be "one of the boys" and treated like everybody else. In reality she was very good, a lot above average, probably one of the smartest classmates I ever had. Excellent grades as well. That was in the late sixties. Many of he women I later met were similar, wanted to be treated like men. Everything else was seen as being treated as inferiors. When I look at my daughters these days, things have changed a bit. They do not consider themselves inferior and treat their partners as "gleichberechtigt" and they in turn are treated the same way. So yes, to some extent the chivalry was killed by the successful fight for equal rights.

Ha, sounds pretty boring, cold and rationalized. Don't really like it, but I'm also from Germany and it also goes vice-versa, meaning the women here are also like this or expect this. Yeah, but in the moment there isn't much choice. It's even worse during lockdown and home office. I basically just see women in the supermarket in real life at the moment 😄

oh believe me, they are not. Most of them are sexist and don't view a woman as an equal, even if they say otherwise. Mansplaining is a huge thing, I'm literally tired of cringing after literally EVERY Russian-speaking guy starts to mansplain you the second moment after you start to talk. For example, they ask your occupation and after learning that you are an artist, start on having a monologue about some stupid shit they read somewhere about arts (like: oooh do you know that man with flowers? He cut off his ear! Did you know that? I bet you didn't! And now let me tell you about how to paint flowers even though I've never done that but I'm sure it's easy and you're doing it wrong). And this all with a look of utter importance on their face. Or, the second option, they devaluate. Like: "ooh, an artist, it's not even an occupation, is it? What do you do there, painting walls? Ha-ha." And THEN they expect a second date and get aggressive if you deny. Some of them expect to get "paid" with sex after they've paid for your coffee. Well, I get there are exceptions that are not like that, but the majority of them ARE like that.

Hey everyone, I'm the guy who does cold approaches on the street here in Germany. I was also living in Poland. Here I exchange phone numbers with girls that I like on the street. Women in Germany have less social skills I would say, they don't know how to handle it. What I know is I need to be direct otherwise they don't understand that you're interested in a Romantic Manner. Some cases I remember over text girl is telling me I have a boyfriend etc. Because she didn't understand my intention. What I liked is they are loyal right from the get-go. I was the guy who doesn't know exclusive right from the get go and was seeing multiple women and my relationship contract vanished when they found out. I learned the hard way. Because German people even don't want to talk to strangers. Now I was telling about Poland if I compare these two countries the difference is a lot. Slavic women are more feminine when I compared to German women. Anyways, good luck with dating in Germany.
