Things to do at Chimney Rock and Lake Lure NC

Come join us as we find fun things to do at Chimney Rock and Lake Lure!
We started our day at Lake Lure Flowering Bridge, a wonderful example of repurposing a structure into something beautiful instead of wrecking it down! Officially dedicated on October 13, 2013, the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge blooms atop the historic, three-arch Historic Bridge #7 in Lake Lure, NC. When it was decommissioned in January 2011, a group of citizens got permission from the North Carolina Department of Transportation to preserve and enhance the structure, forming the nonprofit Friends of the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge. Over a two-year period, they sought donations, made sure the structure could sustain the additional weight of stones, dirt, and foot traffic, and with the help of a landscape design firm, created a design for the original gardens and implemented it as funds became available. On April 13, 2013, twelve themed gardens were planted in raised beds across the 155-foot span, including rock and succulent, rose, tropical, whimsical, wildflower and herb gardens. The Lake Lure Flowering Bridge was officially dedicated on October 19, 2013.
We then went to the town of Chimney Rock and went wading in the river with Riley! What a great way to cool off on a 90+ degree day!
The next day, when it was cooler, I came back to Chimney Rock to capture some amazing views! I took the elevator to the chimney rock, but then hiked to the Opera House, to Devils Head and up Exclamation Point Trail. Finally, I hiked out to Hickory Nut Falls, the filming location of the Last of the Mohicans movie.

We love chimney rock. We always stay right at the base in town looking over the river. We walked the trail behind all of the restaurants and shops yesterday evening to eat. On the way back we come face-to-face with a black bear. We turned around and he /she just walked behind us. It was very unsettling. We turned up the first set of steps we come too and went up the back way to a restaurant.

My Grandparents ran the Bottomless Pools @ Lake Lure in the 50's into the 70's. Sadly they are closed now. Sometimes we had the Beach all to ourselves on the weekends !

We are going in August and love to hike and take our dog. He’s a yellow lab, named Odin. However being 5 months pregnant I don’t think I could manage at this time! I did hike it once before being pregnant and LOVED it

Loved the video! I am planning to visit this weekend. Is June a good time to visit or should I postpone it until July or August? I fear it'll get more hotter by then.
