To add to this: group of guys (and some girls) paint themselves in football colours then go out en-masse, get drunk and abuse / harass everyone else, *especially* anyone in rival colours" = passionate. Person makes effort to demonstrate enjoyment of anything outside of mainstream mono-culture = most likely to be bashed by aforementioned thugs.

Attention cosplayers: if I ask who you're cosplaying as, it's usually because you look awesome and I don't know what it's from but I want to know what it's from. Also I'm socially awkward and not well versed in much of the geekdoms, so.... YOU ALL LOOK AMAZING, BY THE WAY

Senpai Gaea also to be fair, you might be dressing up as a very specific comic outfit reference like I cosplay as Harley Quinn a lot and she has a lot of different outfits depending on which comic series you read. So I don’t mind when people ask me because I can understand that when they don’t see the generic version of that character it can be quite confusing for a lot of people unless you’re heavily invested in that franchise

Here's one! "Your wig is not the right color! Or right style or length!" Here is the thing, there are times when you can't get a certain color of the wig and some wig makers have to improvise the color based on a manga version. Best example is the wig I use for Dark from DNAngel. I went with a neon purple wig since the store that sold me my wings and wig only had bright purple and there were pics of Dark with lighter purple hair and someone complained it was not the right color. Years later I found one on EBay that was auburn and purple mixed and tried to compare it to the characters and the only character that fits the hair is Dark and a friend of mine pointed out that Yukiru Sugisaki had done manga pics of Dark with auburnish purple hair and remembered the pics and wore the wig and still got crap for it.

I do not have the capacity to spend loads of money on a costume or buy the PERFECT material so if I can use stuff I already have and modify it, you bet your ass I will. That doesn’t make me a bad cosplayer it just means that I have a budget that I have to stick by otherwise I will be homeless and without food for several weeks.

Well I know what Mad Max is, most Australians do because the originals are Australian movies. However Fury Road isn't the be all and end all, if you haven't seen Fury Road you won't know who he's dressed as unless he tells you or you guess. If people want to on one hand say they want an open and friendly community that isn't judged by others, not being shitty if someone hasn't seen the very specific thing you're dressed as someone from and being annoyed when they try to engage with you would be a start.

Well no, actors aren't cosplaying. They are extremely talented and delivering a finely tuned performance they've spent months rehearsing. You may spend months putting together a costume, but you are not an actor. It's not the same.

Isabella Price or if you're clearly cosplaying something that everybody knows (for example, Mario) and you put in a lot of effort in the costume and someone asks "who are you?" In a snarky voice. That shits annoying. I get it if you're cosplaying with the steampunk genre because it's not always recognizable as to what job/role/whatever you're cosplaying as. For Halloween I spent two weeks making a steampunk dress/overall type of thing and goggles so that I could be a steampunk engineer. I was asked frequently what I was and I didn't mind explaining my costume to them. Everybody loved my costume. I got sidetracked so sorry if my comment doesn't really have much relevance to your comment😂

I am only 14 and yeah I don't have enough money to actually buy cosplays, which I hate, but I DO have a Heather McNamara cosplay (from Heathers) which I made myself (I'm really proud lmao), but like when I go to comic con I am always so jealous of everyones cosplay! Also just because my cosplay isn't the exact look, people think I'm "geeky enough", like I swear to god I work to get money for cosplays and if I'm being honest if my parents would let me I would DEFINATLY have a Raven cosplay from Teen Titans.

There are so many videos and dress journals on how to make pretty much everything; as well as eBay for used patterns, etc. It's pretty easy to teach yourself how to sew with all the information available nowadays and wigs for cosplay can be extremely cheap on eBay. Everyone has to start somewhere and if your first cosplay isn't perfect it's all good; just keep working on it. It's a lot of fun.

All my cosplay are homemade and i think it really is one of the best things because you get to wear something yous spend a lot of effort on at cons. And it's just unique and you can get it exactly like you want

I have a Heather Duke cosplay because my friends and I performed Candy Store (with changed and appropriate lyrics lol) for our school's talent show. I'm 14 and I usually try to save as much money as possible until I find a cosplay that really sticks out to me. I also have a Yuri cosplay from Doki Doki Literature Club (which was expensive) for Halloween but I'm really proud to have in the end even if it took a while to get.

Im not bothered bout the “who are you supposed to be?” Cause they might genuinely not seen or know that character

Anon I once wore I wig to school and a girl tor wit off my head and threw it around. The wig was so messed up it took me a week to get tangles out and for it to look (almost) right.

Cupcaek not everyone has seen Harry Potter or enough of the series to understand who Moody is (rip buddy hehe spoilers) not hate against you but the argument is flawed. Had i not been such a dork, then i wouldnt have known who that guy was until he scream Mad Eye Moody, then wouldve had to google who the hell he was and why was his eye so mad.

Not only was it NOT as obvious as he said it was, there have been HUNDREDS of post-apocalyptic films (some great) that took a page out of Mad Max. Yeah, I've seen them all. Dozens of times. Even attend the Mad Max gathering in California. Grew up with Mad Max since I'm old as fuck. STILL not that obvious with this dude. Short of the grill on his face he could be from Trainspotting...hell, even with the grill.....

Juuls story lmao yes i go to a comic con in london and seeing all the other cosplayers on the tube going to the venue is so funny to me. similar experience as to when a mcdonalds etc. is next to the venue, and 90% of the people there are in cosplay. love it

I'm not a cosplayer but I love anime and games and I think you guys are cool and brave to do that. I feel like the world is slowly changing for the better and as people become more open minded I believe acceptance of cosplaying will be as natural as accepting that other people have different religions, political beliefs, values, interests or abilities

The guys who was cosplaying as Professor Moody and Mad Max were my favorites

I always think Cosplayers are just the most amazingly creative people I've ever met. The fact they can take this image of a character or make a interpretation of a design to real life is just a level of creativity I can't dream to achieve. I love it. (Also quick edit. I found these two amazing people who cosplayed. as StarScream and Knockout from Transformers Prime. Just blew my mind at how amazing they made these costumes. They were so accurate it was directly out of the show just amazing.)

it’s been ages since i cosplayed but i love it so much. i went to comicon three years ago as harley quinn in a completely homemade cosplay and i got loads of compliments and it filled me with so much confidence that i wouldn’t normally have. it’s so great seeing people dressed up as your favourite characters and being able to get a photo with them

One day, I will show up to a free dress day at school wearing a cosplay (probably casual cosplay). Just you wait I’m currently too shy and haven’t found the right clothes that my parents will agree to buying but I WILL, DON’T WORRY

All of these cosplays are so good, I’m living for the Mad-Eye Also, cosplayers at cons talk about other cosplayers like Pokemon. “OH MY GOD LOOK AT THAT KIRISHIMA!” Basic cosplay rules: 1) Don’t take a picture of a cosplayer without asking! 2) COSTUME DOESN’T EQUAL CONSENT 3) Don’t touch/take stuff without asking It makes me so sad when people are pricks about this. It’s a hobby. It’s so much fun. It’s not harming anyone. It’s like sewing or theatre. It’s a hobby. A rather expensive one, sure, but a wonderful hobby. And escape for many.

U guys have done everything but “what not to say to ppl with scoliosis” I personally think that vid would do rly good. Look into it?

1. I don't understand when they get mad about the "can I touch it?" question. That's what people should do. I'm a cosplayer and I have ask other cosplayer to have a feel of the material on the cosplay. There is nothing bad about asking something. 2. It's ok to ask "who are you dressed up as". To everyone will know everything. Because I know that many people take that as "your cosplay is so bad I can't recognise it". When some people really don't know the character.

Malou Phoenix I've had people ask to play my prop before, which I happily let them. Since it made everyone so happy. Its a ukulele made into an axe bass. A friend if mine Kent me her props, Merida bow and arrows, for a cosplay competition that she wasn't able to enter in because she was a VIP (it was a small con). I find that if it's something that is less durable, then people get protective other it. I also just remembered that a group of us were lent lightsabers because they wanted a picture of Disney princesses holding lightsabers 😂

I have problems with people asking to touch my cosplay and props because most of my props tend to be delicate because I mostly cosplay anime characters and comic book characters with small props and I don't have a sewing machine so everything is sewn by hand which makes it more prone to come apart when touched and messed with repeatable. Plus as a female men come up and ask to touch just so they can grope you sometimes and it's not fun at all

It's hard when you love to cosplay and go to Cons, but hate crowds and people because of anxiety and social awkwardness.

I loved the Jolteon and Espion people, everyone was amazing but I like how they turned Pokémon into human(ish) characters

My close friend cosplays doctor who, and the writers and actors of doctor who loved her costume and they gave her free autographs and photos. She’s great

I cosplayed a character that I knew few would know who I was but the few that did know still asked me who are you....and the smile that came across their face when I told them. Awe loved it. Made so many people's day and the costume I absolutely love. Currently touching it up to wear it again
