Lived in Mumbai from 2015 to 2018. Paid 27k rent for a 1 BHK in Kurla. The only positive was the central location and nominal maid charges. Otherwise, the effort of commute to office, the traffic made me realize it was not worth it. Moved to Hyderabad in 2018 and got a 4 bhk in 30k, 4 times the size of Mumbai flat. Hustle culture/mumbai life is just a glorified way of hiding the corporators' and governments lack of planning as well as masking them being in cahoots with businesses..

Liked your way of depicting the reality of Mumbai. "Hustle culture/mumbai life is just a glorified way of hiding the corporators' and governments lack of planning as well as masking them being in cahoots with businesses.." People might boast of talking great about Mumbai and the city it is, but whats the use if a common middle class person has to live in a bathroom sort of space or flat. Not everybody is earning so much to give high paid rent and live in good location.

Lived in Mumbai from 2010 to 2017 paid 22k rent for 1bhk in lokhandwala kandivali east. Can only imagine what would be the rent now. Most of my friends have moved to NYC and London and pay similar rent there too. But the quality of life much better there.

My salary was Rs. 15,000/- pm in 2016 in Mumbai. Resided in Virar and then shifted to Naigaon while my office was in Andheri(E). I had also lived in Goregaon, Malad and also in Seawoods and Dombivli. I don't know how on earth I managed surviving in Mumbai with that salary. Now I'm back in my hometown working in a government job just 1-2 minutes walk from home gaining weight and my hair is getting back again haha. However, I still love the city of Mumbai and absolutely missed the humidity as I lived in a cool chill city now but my skin suit the huimidity soaking heat of Mumbai as I rarely have pimple breakouts. Mumbai is definitely a city for people who are creative with ambitions and who works in tech industries and MNC firms, actors, lawyers etc who can earned those $$$ but its really difficult if you are not from those sectors. Mumbai gives me peace of mind My hometown gives me peace of body

I had taken a job in Mumbai in 2021 which was paying me around 1.2 lakhs. My office was in Jogeshwari East. I took an AirBnb for a month in Goregaon West near to the office so that I can find a home on rent while I stay there. I didn't understand the east and west concept before coming to Mumbai but I didn't find it a big hassle. I found 1BHK homes with rent of around 35k. It was simply not worth it. I would have been left with just 90K for my savings and expenses. It was terrible idea financially. So, I simply took the decision to quit my job. I can't work to just pay rent. Few months later I found a job that pays me 1.5 lakhs in Bangalore and I pay 18k as rent for a 2BHK. Now that looks good mathematically and from a quality of life perspective. I believe in a simple logic, if your monthly rent exceeds monthly savings, just quit that city.

The density of people, whole hustle for simple things in life, skyrocket rents and corresponding rates of everything from food to services because of high infra cost. This was not worth the efforts. i moved to hyderabad after quitting my job. Peace.

I find a lot of what is being discussed in this video, cliqued. Specially the Bachelor vs family conversation. I have been living in Mumbai for 7 years now, it primary boils down to your awareness of tbe rental markets. Having rented my first apartment 3 kms from my office in BKC, I have been paying roughly the same rent by moving around smartly. I presently stay in chembur, spend about 12% of my salary on my rent. Bottomline - Be aware.

I can't help noticing why the anchor is not blinking I lived in Bangalore for 5 years before coming back to my home land in Kerala. In Bangalore I lived for an average of 20-22k rent in gated communities 10-17km away from my office. Still had to sacrifice clean air, water and health. Now I live in an independent duplex for 12k rent inside the city limits in Trivandrum enjoying clean air, borewell water and a better overall standard of living. It took me my time in Bangalore to appreciate my own home land.

The politicians keep renaming everything in india from streets to cities and states without any change on ground and people like you get into that trap. The original name of the city was bombay in English and gujarati and marathi used to call it mumbai while in hindi it was bambai. There was no need to change the name. Also, indian politicians should put their money where their mouth is and develop a city as grand and modern as bombay, calcutta, madras that the British developed 100 years back and then name whatever the hell they want. But clearly, it's not possible because of incompetent ministers, bureaucrats, the caste reservation and whole lot of other issues!

There is no such thing as expensive. It's proportionate to average income level. Average income is very high if you are in high paying service industry such as banking, finance, adv, consulting, law etc. If not then this is not the place for you.

Many people(both blue and white collar workers) get more job opportunities in Mumbai with higher salary than other cities, that's why they don't mind spending little on rent

Why people are staying New York, Tokyo, Singapore and Zurich when much affordable options are available? That’s because these cities offers something different which other cities can’t. So people are ready to pay that extra to stay there. Bangalore and Hyderabad will be soon reaching to Mumbai level in next 4-5 years. I am saying this because I worked in Hyderabad for 4 years. And I have seen rentals going skyrocket within span of just 3-4 years.
