Oh I’m so sorry. I’m on my third home. I learned with the first and bought everything second hand. The second I took my time. Each one is different and tells you what it wants to be. I think the issue is that most people want their home to look a certain way but don’t look at the home they actually have. The home picks the way it wants to look. It’s the architecture, the finishes, the light, the BONES. You have to decide how to use your very best taste to get it there. I never buy anything twice. I don’t buy until it’s exactly what I want. No temporary stuff. Just live without until it’s right. Save the money for what you want. I say this in an empty home waiting months for purchase I have already made simply because everything I want is short supply. Literally waiting for things until October 😂😂😂

Totally agree about not settling! My bay window in my room has been empty, and I’ve been tempted soo many times to buy something that would just be functional and not too expensive to fill up the space! But I’m glad I’m able to stop myself every time! I will keep saving up for my small marble table I’ve been dreaming from Cb2!

Being able to delay gratification (patience) is a sign of being an adult. However, we all still carry that child in us that wants things settled NOW! It is really amazing to hear you take responsibility for what you consider mistakes. We all make them. It takes a strong person to own them and show vulnerability. I happened upon your channel about a week ago, and I've been catching up on older videos as well as the more recent ones. Our style preferences are miles apart, and I don't agree with everything, but, in general, your design tips are spot on. I was a design consultant/soft goods specialist for years, and I still love that world. You connect in a fun, energetic way and I love it! And if the dogs show up, it's a bonus!

We did away with a rug in our living room and let me tell you… life changing!!!!!! Don’t miss it one bit. It hurt for like a day and now I love it.

I don’t think Alvin is a real interior designer! He is a fashion designer doing up his home and maybe friends home! He is the typical fashion addict! An interior designer tackles the whole space in one go! You never ever decorate as you go without a concept in mind! That farmhouse table will never ever work with those mid century chairs! It could have worked when dark stained. There is more to interior design than someone’s taste and style in dressing! I see a lot of BS on KZread, a lot of “Pixies” calling themselves interior designers but just showing off their brand new dresses! An interior designer is on site with a Hi-vis vest and a helmet! I love Alvin and his sarcasm, he has style but lacks the in-depth knowledge. When he gets that , there will be fewer mistakes in his choices.

Let’s make this official: I LOVE your videos, interior style AND amazing personality. Thank you for unintentionally lifting me up when I’m feeling down! And, I actually enjoy a good Boucle BUT only on smaller pieces like clothing, pillows etc. I cannot imagine that Boucle would be great on a couch as it probably “wears out” quite quickly.

I actually really like the table. With some black ultra modern chairs, it may make the table look less farmhouse.

Anything that has as much texture as boucle will capture dirt and hold onto it forever. You will end up being ashamed of the sofa and rue the day that it came into your home. Like Susan said, "Go for the boucle accessories."

Arvin, don’t say you wish you didn’t buy it. Just like fashion, interior design changes. Sometimes quickly and most times you have a 3-5 year lifespan on most items. When you go to purchase something, divide the price by the number of years you want to keep it. If it makes financial sense, if you can revamp it with some paint and new baubles, then it is a good price for you to warrant spending. Don’t say you regret it, just say you outgrew the style and sell it. Use the proceeds to purchase something new

But if we all think like that the waste will be crazy. Fashion waste is already a big problem. I love trendy furniture! But always restrain myself from buying them. Nowadays before buying furniture I always try to think like whether it will last for a long long time and whether people will buy it if it end up in thrift store.

Okay, Lord of the Flies, just say no to any boucle-covered furniture-period. It's a trend that will pass quickly and you will feature it on your future buying regrets vids! Travertine is an ancient Roman classic--maybe it's good to have a piece in your home made of it--it surely would stand out from your other pieces.

Love the dining chairs - maybe paint the table black - the faux fur stools look like they’re going to walk off somewhere - would you like your cabinet if you bought another to put along side ? Travertine was popular in the 80s - my friends all had it - I hated it then and now - maybe the pedestal could be made into a water feature Get a fly swat - you’ll never miss if you wait til it rests and position yourself behind it - can’t half tell I’m old with the advice

I agree but I don’t think Arvin is the DIY type lol. Plus, he seems to just hate the table in general. Better to just buy what you want rather than waste labor trying to make something into what it’s never going to be. I learned the hard way lol

I added 1/4 inch marble on my exact table and it looks amazing…. It mimics the potterybarn wooden table with marble top.

I love everything you have. The way I see it we learn and we grow by our mistakes but never less. You have to remember to stay awesome

Just say NO for the Boucle sofa. Even a chair. Use it for deco pillows and throws. Arvin’s laugh is so contagious🤣 And the trying to kill a fly with newspaper pure slapstick👏🏻

A little boucle goes a long way. Nobody asked... but I vote no on buying an entire boucle sofa. Your current sofa is dreamy. Get it a boucle pillow or blanket maybe. I appreciate that you are confident enough to show us your missteps. Most of the pieces you regret would look great in another space. That dining table is the one exception to the rule. Sometimes you just need to get furniture right then, though. We've all been there. I like that Travertine stacked pedestal. Maybe you could put felt or something similar on the bottom so you can drag it around without heavy lifting or damaging your floors.

I actually like that round table. Can you put a tablecloth on it or paint it? It would be okay in a corner.

Hey - you've got to get some of those furniture glider things - they come in many shapes and sizes - you slip it under that marble pedestal and it will easily move - I've used them for years - with huge/heavy pieces and they are a lifesaver.

I'm impatient as well. I've lived in my Curren home going on 8 years and still haven't furnished it completely. I'm learning to not waste money by buying things twice. It is a real process.

Love boucle, but it’s everywhere right now which means most design-forward people are going to move on soon. It’s okay using it, but definitely find the less textured kind versus the kind that looks similar to sherpa for longer staying power.

Hmm… nobody asked, well you did, it’s actually the light fixture above the dinning table that throws off the space for me. The table is not so bad because your chairs take the attention off the base of the table

I don't mind the look of boucle, but I get the feeling that kind of fuzzy fabric will look rough/worn out in a fairly short period of time. Not a good fabric for high traffic items like couches.

I like boucle but I think it is too trendy right now for it to be a timeless, and it will look pretty dated in a couple years...maybe get smaller items in boucle, like replace the hairy ottoman with a boucle ottoman, and steer away from the whole boucle couch.
