Things I Found In Geocaches Volume 2

Volume 1 • Things I Found In Geoc...
9 times out of 10 (for me) geocaches are filled with dirty junk, but every once in a while something grabs my interest. I just wait until I have a handful worth recording to put in to a volume. Once I fill up my ammo can (or some other random determination,) I will re-release it all back in to the geoworld.

Thanks! Greetings from outside Philadelphia. Sadly, there is very little of interest in most caches around my way. Perhaps I have just been temporarily unlucky.

Do you know of anyway to reset it? It would be much more useful to me if I could reset it. Also, do you know if it is generally mounted on something?

Skimbosh I've only ever used modern plastic versions which do have a reset button. It's a shame this one doesn't. Sadly I have no advice to offer you on how to reset it. It's weird that they designed it without one. It looks really old. I don't know what it could have been mounted on, the ones I'm familiar with look similar but are plastic and are just held in the hand to count double-paces so you know the distance you've walked along a compass bearing. Also I once found a VHS tape of "Caddy Shack" in a geocache and an old book titled "Overcoming Homosexuality". Weird stuff.

@@Skimboshits a tally counter, i worked at a plastic factory and every piece of machinery had it. It counts how many times it did a certain movement like a screwing a screw. That little hole on the handle is for tiny spring. How we used them. our managers just wanted to see at what number machine breaks. Also, my got this little wheel at the opposite side so you can reset it. All wheels spin at the same time like 111111, then to 222222 til 000000. And yeah mines got 6 digits instead of 5.

@@SkimboshGlad i could help, more things i forgot to say. I really dont think you can reset that one without taking it apart, but i strongly advice againts doing that because you wont be able to put it back together I seen many diffrent counters through out my life. This one is mechanical, mechanical counters are often vintage and can be pricy there are handhelds and mountables. Also i seen some counters that work on compresed air. I seen them at that factory. And also electronic ones. I took one from really old vintage radio it had almost the same mechanism but it works on little rubber band. I dont know why would radio have one

Part of geocaching is the trading of swag. The idea is there are little "treasures" that sometimes you can take, but sometimes you leave something interesting (in theory) to balance it all out. I have Things I Found In Geocaches, but also Things I Put In Geocaches. I like to think my karma is 50/50 in the swag world.

What would be the point just stuffing geocaches with all kinds of intresting stuff and then leave them to rot and rust? Also you know that most geocaches are not pernament? They often get stolen or destroyed by weather

  • @Skimbosh

You sure about that? I trade out stuff. If you take something you leave something. That's what quite a few people do with geocaches. Why would people put all this stuff in there if they didn't want you to trade?
