I still have about 2 years before I even start thinking about retiring and I just figured out a way to get those sweet new tools I want for my future woodworking hobby. Here’s how it works….getting ready to refinish the deck in a few weeks and mentioned to my beautiful wife that having a lathe would sure make re-staining the deck a whole lot easier. Welp, here it is a few weeks later and my wife said this morning… “I wish you would hurry up and get that “lave” thing so you could get this deck done”! She’s amazing! And the best thing about her is that she has impeccable taste in men.

I would have built the base of the house flush with the face of the fenders so the house if permanently in place can be enclosed so that the wheels and frame could be hidden with skirting!

Good Thursday morning Kens Karpentry ✏🔨📐🪚 Very cool build Ken .... it's better to take your time and workout all the details for sure👍🏻 I was born to early for tiny houses. By the time they became a thing, it was just too late for me. In another time warp, I would have gotten more land and put a tiny house and a large garage/workshop on it. Hindsight is always 20/20 huh🤣 Anyhoo .... you have to work with what fate has given you. Kaiya is very interested in those chickens🐔🐔 .... they have to be a strange addition in her life at this point😂 Have a very nice weekend Ken & family .... hope you get some eggs🥚🥚soon ✌🏻👣

Your plans have changed so much, and it looks like you are open to suggestions. (Only suggestion.) So my two cents worth, 1 & 2 & 3. 1. Make the toilet drain run to outside be as short as possible, have the other "water" drains come to it. (Water flows easier than solids.) 2. Consider hidy holes under the floor for storage (like in a boat hull). 3. The bump out is usually the utility room (propane tanks, water and water heater, and electric). Also for weigh balancing. But I'm sure you already have plans, so surprise us, lol.

There’s a reason typical tiny homes are not built up above the wheels - stability. The heavy things inside the home envelope will be a foot higher than they otherwise would, rendering the structure more top-heavy than it otherwise would be.

Smart to sell off the equipment now while it's in good working order and pass on some blessings to other contractors at a good fair price. Win/Win. Love the tiny build. The drawers are a brilliant idea. Like you said, it's a common issue with tiny living. Enjoyed todays episode. Hope you're not getting too disgruntled because of the time it's taking to plan and execute this project. It's good for us to see all of that and we do appreciate the 'real world' aspects of building. Looking good ... one day at a time. God bless

To make the porch slide easier, you could use some angle iron and make some trays for grease? Actually, soap would be better, like making drawers slide easier. Putting your brain into overdrive, you might engineer some drop down legs. They need to fold up when you push the porch shut.

You probably have about twice as long to wait for the first egg from your ladies. Most chickens start laying at around six months old. Some bred for production egg laying might start a couple weeks earlier than that, while some farm bred chickens may take up to nine months to start laying. BTW - don't be surprised if the first few eggs are smaller. It is normal for a young chicken to lay "pullet eggs" at first before starting to lay normal sized eggs. While this egg size regulation is going on for your hens the first few months of laying you may even end up with a couple of big double yokers. Have fun

That deck idea is brilliant! Nice, and you're putting some storage drawers in too! Wow, that worked out great! I like it! The Kenstead! Between 5 and 6 months they will start laying. They need their combs up and bright red before they lay. If their combs go to pink and not as bright red they probably aren't laying. They get like that when they are older. If the comb on top of their head stays bright red they are probably still laying. It takes a while before they lay but it's well worth it. I've had chickens for 15 years and the eggs they lay me are so much better than store bought. You'll be amazed at how orange the egg yolks are! What feed are you giving them? They also need some type of grit to help them eat their food because their gizzards grind it up so they need some type of grit. Many farm stores have grit but tiny gravel works well too. We have a gravel driveway and they seem to find the grit they need. You can give them dirt or ashes to help them with their mites. They lay in the dirt or ashes and spread it through their wings to suffocate the tiny mites they always get. I love watching my chickens. They are a hoot! If you get new "Spring" chickens every year then you'll always have eggs in the winter. When they get older they stop laying in the winter. They will molt twice a year. Usually before the cold in winter and in the Spring. They won't lay as many eggs when they molt. They aren't sick. Each chicken has a personality. They are fun to have. I'm so glad you're enjoying them Ken. Thanks for this video!

G'day Ken from Oz. I built my own "tiny" house on a trailer 3 years ago in the driveway of the place I was living. It's 33' long x 8' wide x 11' high (plus 2.6' off the ground) ........ basically a semi trailer size with 3 wheels each size. Took me 6 months. Got a local guy with a Kenworth prime mover to bring it to my block. I live off grid on 20 acres 200 miles from the capital city where I used to live. I'm really interested to see this build of yours. I'm now 66yo ...... don't know how I did it now I look back !!

I thought about some small wheels to roll out that deck. So it would be easier to roll out and back.

Don't build the floor out of 2x4's, Ken. Take that deck apart or use that as a wall. Probably too late with this advice, but had to say it.

We have a lot of homeless people still out on the streets. The rents have gone up too much. Everything is two to three times higher. The ecomeney has to go broke at some point. How about designing a home kit with all the materials in a box so that homeless can have a shelter. I see who is getting contractor stuff from one, Perfect! Ha Ha Ha. One is not retired he is still working. Paul in Ohio. I took a look at the train page too. I thought an apartment in LA was $2000 a month, it was $2800 s month. People in finance lost money on the homes sales of yesteryear now they are wanting it back. Big business bought up all the trail parks and it is 3000 to move in and lot rent too. There is big holes in my roof from ratcoons and it is cold in here. No insulation at all. I paid off my place in about four and one half years and two people died and I cannot get the deed. Been here 37 years and four months. Working on the 38 th year. One still is working no retirement yet. Hoppie used to work with us and he was over 72 years old. He chewed tobbaco and operated lathes for eight hours making parts with us. Just give Al a call when one has more tools for him.
