I love how Taylor is pretty much the definition of cool, calm and collected...until someone messes with his family! Maci is a strong woman and doesn’t need anyone to stand up for her, but he is a passionate husband and step-dad/dad who chooses to do so! Go Taylor!

There is a HUGE difference in supporting your child & enabling Ryan. Taylor said nothing wrong. When you say "go hug your dad" or "go over there & talk to your day", you're forcing the child to do something YOU want to happen. Never put him in danger. I'm in a step-dad unless there is true danger. Taylor should not interfere with father and son. this is something they have to work out for the rest of there lives IF Bentley wants to. his decision not Ryan's. They are all confusing him. he will unstable as an adult due to adults behaving like high school kids

He shouldn’t be getting involved , it’s between maci and Ryan’s family. He critiques Ryan for taking prescription medication but always has a bottle of beer in his hand. Maci wants Ryan back so punishes him because he’s happy with Mackenzie. Ryan’s parents are awesome grandparents, I think maci is too judgemental

I don’t think Jen and Larry are bad people but they don’t fully understand the severity of Ryan’s drug problem and Maci being weary of Bentley being in proximity to his dad

This is what happens when healthy people set healthy boundaries in order to protect themselves from toxic people. The toxic people never take responsibility for their actions. They never respect the boundaries. It's frustrating, but if you're going to set boundaries, you have to be mentally prepared to be made out to be the villain in the situation. It's ok. I think they're more concerned with protecting their child than they are being labeled a villain by weak minded, toxic people. The knowledge that their son will benefit from their decisions is enough, I'm sure, to get Maci and Taylor through the nonsense. Good for them.

Hats off to Taylor! He will not tolerate anyone talking out of line to his wife. Bentley is a lucky kid to have a step dad like Taylor.

Ryan's parents are just as bad as Ryan. They never hold him accountable. They've enabled him for as long as we have seen them on TV. Ryan doesn't make an effort and instead of blaming Ryan they direct their anger towards Maci and Taylor. When they seem to be amazing parents. They have tried to force situations on Bentley that he was clearly uncomfortable with. It's so sad. Jen and Larry are delusional. How can they help Ryan when they are in such deep denial about everything? They blame Maci for everything. If not for her, Bentley wouldn't have the structure, the social life, the athletic life, and the life of getting to talk to a therapist early before things get out of hand. If he had been with Ryan, he'd be in his house while Ryan slept all day. Ryan doesn't show up to events. It's Maci's fault. Bentley wants to go to counseling with his dad. He waited almost TWO months to call the therapist. Ryan doesn't try and he doesn't care. These people are absolutely despicable.

Taylor is exhibiting how real parents are, I will never allow anyone to force my kids to hug, kiss or speak to anyone no matter the biology. My kids feelings matter and they are my priority.

Jen and Larry are enablers, but they see it as supporting Ryan. They need as much help as Ryan does, unfortunately. Addiction is a family disease, that is why there is AA AND Al-Anon. No, Maci isn't perfect, but good Lord I feel sorry for her for having to deal with this crap all these years. She and Taylor have tried to protect Bentley as best they can - BY not forcing him to be in a relationship with his father (when it is so obvious Ryan is high or using now). That is the best thing they can do for him!! Ryan literally looks homeless right now, and I am not trying to be cruel or mean. How can his wife, and his parents not call him out on it????? The true victim here is Bentley, and Maci and Taylor have done their best to protect him, and give him his voice/and choice in having a relationship with his drug-addicted/absent father. Truly a tragedy all around :(

@amysheldon well said sweetie I've been following them since this show started and all I can say is WoW kudos to maci and Taylor because this is how you protect your children. On the other hand I know how drugs can ruin a family 👪, yes it time people start calling Ryan out but Bentley will start to actually see who's been there for him in these development stages of his life. Kids are not stupid and Ryan parents needs to see this. No parents want to see their child fall apart but when you enable a drug addicts then the whole family is on drugs and I know that's a hard pill to swallow. I just wish the very best for them all and hope Ryan can really pull through not just for Bentley but for his other kids and himself.

@@felisahenderson3879 Ryan is on reality tv and Bentley’s in middle school (meaning he probably has fewer restrictions on what he watches). So he’d already have a way to see it. Not to mention, he knows his dad and can see the difference between a sober and non-sober parent, even if he wouldn’t use those exact words. Kids see everything, whether we want them to or not.

The therapy Maci imposed is the new lever she has found to prevent her son from having a stable relationship with his father's family. She claims to want the best of Bentley but when the therapist tells her that Bentley wants to spend time with her father, she accuses Ryan of not being present but she is responsible for it.

Even now at 27 she hardly speaks badly about him despite his lack of being a father. They think Maci is telling him all this stuff but Bently is at the age where he can clearly see who's safe, who is there for him, and who supports him. Nobody is telling Jen and Larry not to support Ryan. They’re saying don’t put the burden of reaching out on Bentley. It’s not his job to make Ryan feel like a good father. Ryan has never been a good father and he has always blamed it on Jen or Maci.

💯 Agree with you on that. Body language shows the huge divide between them. And Larry stays angry.....he has probably been like this all through his life and certainly all through their marriage. Doubtful anyone in that household is allowed to challenge him on anything.

Jen seems like such a warm loving lady. The men in her life don’t deserve her. I think she wants to put Bentley and Maci first, but is conflicted.

Jen is a pushover, and tbh a manipulator. Those tears are to get Maci to feel sorry for her, and when Maci gives them yet another chance, they ignore the boundaries set forth by her and Bentley and do what they want. Maci needs to drop that whole family.

I am so happy Maci found a man like Taylor. Maci has done everything in her power to include Jen and Larry in Bentleys life despite what Ryan put them through. Now Bentley is old enough to make his own decisions and he’s uncomfortable around his dad. Jen and Larry enabled Ryan and this is a consequence.

Taylor has had ENOUGH....and rightfully so!

Maci has never once made Jen and Larry feel like as grandparents they don’t matter. At some point if your son doesn’t want help or show signs of getting better...BE DONE WITH IT. Larry said it before and now all of sudden he is team Ryan?! Jen is hoping Maci can emphasize with her, but Taylor and Maci are trying everything they can do to stop that pattern. Jen and Larry are enablers...Maci is the only link to a relationship to see Bentley and they are destroying it. Lord knows Ryan doesn’t give a shit.

I know Maci isn’t perfect, but idk how Jen and Larry can fix their mouths to say anything negative about her. Technically speaking, she doesn’t HAVE to let Bentley see them. There’s no such thing as grandparent rights. Being a grandparent is a privilege. They should be thankful she hasn’t cut ties with them to the fullest extent of her rights as Bentley’s primary caregiver. They may not like her, but THEIR SON is the problem here. He’s the reason why everyone in the situation (including the actual child) is tense and sad.

@@Jadecii i assume because the whole situation is toxic, and that includes the grandparents. it's not about being vindictive, a kid deserves to grow up with out all of that stress. them being good people doesn't mean they are good for bentley right now. that said, i don't think she should, and i assume that's why she hasn't, he also deserves a relationship with them. it's just a complicated situation all around, but it's not like ryan and his family are making it easy.

Exactly. It's the enabling, babying and coddling of Ryan that got them a lazy, trifling son who is now just a totally useless and ineffective Father to Bentley. Ryan is just a waste of human skin.......PERIOD.

Its real funny how you could accuse maci of manipulation towards your grandson when you can't even confront your son on his drug use that's destroying his relationship with his son. Why don't you try listening to your grandson and ask him what he wants? This should be about Bentley, and Bentley only.

That hatred and anger from Larry shows you the toxicity that family perpetuates and their home is full of and why they have a messed up son.

Ryan’s parents aren’t helping they are enabling

Hugging, and conversating with your own child comes as an instinct. It's sad that a child has to be told to go hug and/or talk to his Dad. Taylor is right...they need to stop forcing a bond that has never developed in over 12 yrs.

Macis husband is 100% right in this situation. Coming from a home where my parents where addicts, sometimes as kid you can't process what's going on or how you even feel about your parent or the situation. It's best to let the child come to his father when he is ready

Bentley is lucky to have all of them who love him

Taylor is an amazing stepdad you can tell just from this small clip that he loves and cares for Bentley. Bentley is so lucky to have him it’s scary to think what he would be like if he only had Ryan.

It's not okay to tell a child to hug someone, especially is they don't want to. We want children to grow up and understand consent yet we spend their entire childhood undermining their choices.

Why are Ryan's parents trying to put their responsibility on Macy? Ryan's recovery is not her main concern nor should it be. Her main concern is Bentley.

Taylor stands up for his family. He's a good man, period. Everyone can understand that Larry wants to protect his family, but the well fair of the child comes before Larry's feelings.

Ryan Parents are enablers. Maci is doing what she have to do for her child . An Taylor is such a great guy overall...

Jen and Larry just believe that if Bentley is mature enough to disagree with them that means that Maci is manipulating them. But Bentley isn’t a baby. He’s becoming a teenager. He sees and he learns and he processes and after years of pain and neglect from his father, which we’ve seen so they can’t deny, he’s able to make decisions for himself and say this is not healthy for us and we need to change it. Leah is going through the same thing with Amber. These young adults, Leah and Bentley, are recognising patterns

I believe he's offered it many times. They always say they're taking care of things and in rehab and such. Never the one's Dr. Drew is affiliated with and they never share any therapy or treatments with Dr. Drew. I think they cover up that Ryan and they don't follow treatment and never complete it. It's always, Ryan is in rehab-we'll see when he gets out. No! I've never known rehab to be a "we'll see when he gets out" type of place. They all have made it very clear that it only works if the entire family participates.

I can't believe Larry and Jen actually tried to say that Taylor wasn't in Bentley's life the first five years of his life.. Duh! He hadn't met Maci yet.. How could he be there for Bentley? The real question is where was/is Ryan?? He's the biological father and should've been by Benny since Day 1, regardless of how he felt or viewed Maci. Unfortunately Jen and Larry are only enabling Ryan's neglect and use his drug abuse as an excuse when he just simply doesn't care. Bentley is blessed to have a mother who puts his needs before her own and to have such an amazing father figure like Taylor. Taylor is Bentley's dad and demonstrates it everyday to him.

The worst part in all this is that Ryan is hurting his son and his parents and instead of him being a MAN and making him self accountable he’s got his parents fighting his battles! He makes me sick so glad Maci put her foot down and they won’t be filming him or his enabling wife anymore!

Taylor is right though they're forcing Bentley to do things he isn't comfortable with or just doesn't want to do. It's not right for them to force him to do those things. Bentley deserves to have the choice of doing it if he wants to or feels comfortable.

This family needs to leave the show Bentley is of age to where this is damaging to his emotional health. Maci storyline at this point is Ryan and Bentley and I'm sick of her talking about it. I'm rooting for Ryan and Bentley to heal and rebuild their father/son relationship and Ryan to want to achieve sobriety. Both of them need individual and family therapy.

Denial isn't a river for Larry and Jen it's a whole dang ocean

Precisely where Ryan gets it from. Macy, lovingly & still over & over in a considerate way, trying to break that cycle FOR her son. Imho, Larry esp but Jen too... enable Ryan like crazy! Larry just crossing his arms like that, made ME wanna go put some sense into him. Dont think they'll EVER get it tho... easier to foucs that blame outward, rather than towards Ryan.. making him do the work & earn it. He is the epitome of the old angry white men I see every day in the South. They aren't all like that, but there is a whole group just like him for sure. Everything is someone else's fault too.

I would've kept my son FAR AWAY from his father if he was doing hard drugs and in and out of rehab! Maci is better than me because I would've kept him from the grandparents too if they didn't honor my wishes by sneaking Ryan around when he wasn't supposed to be.

Some therapist some where told Jen and Larry that Maci was the reason for their sons relapses making them feel guilty for ever supporting Maci. Cant always trust what every therapist says as a lot of their jargon are opinions. Common sense should always reign when taking anyone's "advice".

I’ve suspected that it was a poorly interpreted by the Edwards and they’ve clung onto it. A trigger is the emotion a person, place, word etc elicits; Maci may elicit from Ryan shame. Anger. Fear of failure. Abandonment. Regret. This may have been brought up by a therapist in their meeting as a part of figuring out a “game plan” once Ryan leaves treatment. Through therapy, it would be Ryan’s responsibility to explore these emotions and how to heal and also find solutions to how he can control HIS own behavior, not point the finger at Maci. But he never followed through, and he’s surrounded by enablers who don’t understand how this all works.

We only see a few minutes of these people’s lives. Ryan’s negative feelings about Maci being a trigger for him could be very much valid. I’ve never been fooled by Maci. She’s given me calculating and controlling vibes since early on with the show.
