The general theme of most of these KZread videos, for some reason they can't seem to understand that when you come to a foreign country it has it's own unique culture and customs, I had about 8 years working for a large hotel group dealing with up to ten coach groups a week of Americans, all they would do was moan about the UK cause they thought it would be like the USA but with history, I was told so many times that it would be nice if I could learn to speak English properly.

  • @schwarzalben88

There have been occasions when I’ve had my grocery/supermarket shopping packed at the till. While understanding the convenience of this, I found that they didn’t pack it correctly and on unpacking my purchases at home they were damaged. With the decline in the use of plastic bags ( which we now have to pay for) most ecologically minded shoppers are using non disposable reusable bags for their shopping. I always use a shopping trolley, preferably the shallow tray type. I return all my purchases to the trolley and then after paying for them pack my bags elsewhere. One thing which annoys me intensely are people who have large amounts of shopping and then block the till for others while they pack their groceries.

Irish or British people down 4 vodkas and 2 shots or 9 pints and are drunk but standing. Americans have 4 beers and fall over. They can't drink lol. But that's because we are alchos haha. When I came to the UK and went shopping I was really surprised how slow things are being scanned etc. I felt like I was dealing with the sloth from Zootropolis - everything was just really slow and zen compared to back home in Germany.

Interesting, in german we also put the knife first and then the fork. "Gabel und Messer" would sound really strange, I see why it should be illegal. But then again, as I learned in another video by an american expat living in Germany, Americans apparently don't eat with the fork in the left hand. She said that they'd cut the meat with the knife in their right hand, put the knife down and take up the fork with their right hand to eat 🤷‍♀️. Can't confirm that since I've never been over the pond nor do I have american friends, but that's what she said.

For me there is nothing more annoying than waiting and having to call a waiter every time i need something. There should be a balance. I don't like waiters that check on you every 10 min while you're still eating. But some signals are pretty clear. Like when i just sat at a table it's pretty clear that i need a menu if it's not on the table already. And it's pretty clear that i will have to order a few minutes later. And then when i'm finished and there is no more food/drinks on the table it's pretty clear that i'd want a check or order more. I don't want to call a waiter for those things. It's super annoying when you have to almost beg them to come to you.

7:56 We sometimes do have a taste of that kind of thing [employees bagging customers' stuff]. At my local Tesco (might be different elsewhere, I don't know) around Christmas time, we sometimes get people near the tills, collecting for charity and offering to bag. I usually decline, because when I shop I tote my rucksack, and I know how to pack it. I know what items fit in the bottom and that courgettes [zucchini] should go above spuds [potatoes]. You can do most of the packing *while* the cashier is scanning.

I don't think it's the asking for the bill that's the problem, it's that after you've asked for it, they take forever to bloody bring it. Then they leave again, cause apparently you need 20 minutes to look at it. Then they come back, then disappear forever yet again when you say you're paying by card. It's fucking ridiculous, no excuse, I don't find waiters AT ALL attentive to customers in this country, even in empty restaurants.

  • @IzzyKawaiichi

Not in the U.S. We’re used to it. If the place is packed and they’ve got a line out the door, it falls to you to not be “those” customers, but as long as you’re paying and not just sitting there talking, they’ll usually leave you to it. Usually, once they see that you’re about done, the swing by and ask if you want dessert. If you do, they’ll typically bring you the check about ten minutes after your order. If not, you get the check. And then you leave or you don’t.

They're in almost every public building. Big water tank and disposable paper or plastic cups (more paper these days). You hold your cup under it, press a button and you get your water without looking like a barbarian in a desert. I always bring a bottle from home so I don't rely on them and I also like my sparkly water (come at me).
