Banks are subject to many laws, including ones that seek to prevent money laundering, terrorism and financial crime. Banks also need to know their customers to offer advice and to recommend their services for different needs and situations. Questions are asked when you become a customer and later occasionally when you handle your banking with them. Once the customer relationship requirements are handled and strong electronic identification methods are available, then opening and closing account etc. are simple fast operations and can be done remotely without physical meetings.

More countries should adopt the strict regulations on giving bank accounts.

@@SunitaKumar1206 There are international agreements and of course within EU Euro countries there is alignment because the European Central Bank has some supervisor power over the European financial system.

@@SunitaKumar1206 It's not just about bank accounts or actually about those at, in my view. It is about taking responsibility of the funds a bank is handling on behalf of their customers and the legitimacy of the source of the funds. Banks and the whole financial sector has never been very respectful without oversight and regulation. Giving a bank account is just one part of the services banks offer. A kind of basic service.

I don't know what year you arrived or which bank, but currently there's only one major bank in Finland that is offering all its services in English and generally they receive the most of the applications for new accounts around the same time when most immigrants/exchange students arrive. Normally you shouldn't need to wait for more than a few weeks. There may be some differences between banks on what documents you need exactly to open an account but generally if you have your residence card and have received your Finnish social security number, there shouldn't be any issues in receiving your bank credentials. You might however, not get access to the electronic identification via the bank straight away, because for that you generally need the identity card from the Finnish police to gain access to this service/feature. With that you can then take care of most of your business with Finnish government agencies online without needing a physical appointment.

If you're employed, it is your employer's responsibility to report and pay taxes on behalf of the employee. The employer withholds tax from the employee's salary, i.e. the gross salary, and deducts the occupational pension and unemployment insurance premiums and forwards them. What remains is the net salary, i.e. the amount that the employee receives in his account. In addition to the gross salary, the employer pays tax-related employer health insurance premiums and occupational pension and unemployment insurance premiums, as well as accident and group life insurance premiums.

People moving to Finland tend to have bank accounts already in their home country. Salaries can be paid into their account in some other country. This doesn't change rules for taxation.

Wages may be paid in cash only for compelling reasons, for instance if the employee does not have a bank account or the employer does not have the employee’s bank details. The employer must obtain a receipt signed by the employee or some other means of verifying payment if wages are paid in cash.

@@ceciliaokpani9012 In order to handle payments without challenges people need at least a debit card or a credit card. Trying to use cash isn't always so simple. Not all places accept cash and others prefer not to touch it. In addition, you need strong electronic identification, which can be done by several different methods. Banks offer that service and it is also the basis for online banking, which is the default way to use bank services in Finland.

There is one year of preschool and before it kindergarten or daycare, if parents choose to use those services. Rarely there is English or any other foreign language taught at that level. But there are English kindergarten etc. for English speaking families. Teaching the first foreign language, which is usually English, starts at the first class of school and not in preschool.
