Thief (1981) - Confrontation by Craig Safan (Film version)
Музыка
The version heard on official releases of the soundtrack isn't the one used in the film. I lowered the pitch to have it sound like it did in the movie. Not 100% accurate to the rendition used in the film since this is missing a drum verse in the beginning but otherwise, this is it.
I am using this simply for people to have something to listen to, I am not making profits from uploading officially licensed music nor taking the credit for it's production.

While it may not be known by the average person on the street (who probably can't find his own state on a map), it was hardly "underrated." It has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Roger Ebert described Thief as "one of the most intelligent thrillers I've seen" and gave the film 3.5 out of 4 stars, writing that the film's only major flaw was a failure to develop the subplot featuring Willie Nelson's character more fully.
Caan's confession to Weld over coffee, was totally breathtaking. He was great in The Godfather, but this film is his best ever performance. And the music, especially over the closing credits is the icing on the cake!

Of course. There's a code you operate by that comes with the territory. For Frank and Neil, this means abandoning the hope of wanting a regular type life. Frank doesn't realize until the end that his idea could never work, which is why he crumbled up the paper he had as he left the car dealership. Very symbolic as it shows Frank driving off and leaving his old life behind. Neil is already accepting of this fact in Heat.
The recent Criterion Collection release has an interview with a former member of Tangerime Dream saying that Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" soaring guitar solo was the direct inspiration for this, and Tangerine Dream were unable to put together something up to that level. Thus, why Craig Safan is credited with this track. Every time I heard that solo on the radio, I always said it sounded like the ending to "Thief." Now, I know why.
@aliensporebomb
5 жыл бұрын
They really ran out of time in the studio - they thought they were done and packed up all their stuff and left and then got the call for a track for this scene. Edgar Froese of Tangerine Dream was a more than adequate guitarist for this purpose but the funny thing is Craig did his best to emulate Edgar's style on this track.

It was this gorgeous, incredible track called ‘Comfortably Numb,’ with an insane guitar solo by David Gilmour. For him that was the music for the ending, the shootout. We knew, of course, that the atmospheric parts wouldn’t be too hard for us, or the emotional sequences either. But for the ending, we knew it would be all but impossible to match the incredible sense of drama Gilmour puts into his solo, and, of course, the composition by Pink Floyd. We certainly could have created music for the ending, and of course we did. But I think Michael Mann wasn’t happy with it and ended up looking elsewhere."

This is one of those songs I can listen to on repeat for hours on end. The raw.. almost jam session like quality to the soloing and the melodic accompaniment is outstanding and never fails to make me want to pick up my own axe and play along.
