    My Dad is from South Shore & had a very heavy Boston accent until he was teased when he first joined the ARMY. He needed a quarter (qwahtah) & the guys died laughing, asked him to say quarter & water over & over 😂 He hid his accent my entire life until we moved to Mass when we got stationed at Ft. A Devens. My whole family is here. His accent suddenly came right back. I was weirded out, I had never heard it before. All of a sudden, he was calling soda, "tonic" & "saw hoss" instead of sawhorse 🤷🏻‍♀️

  • @BasedlordYama

    @BasedlordYama

    @crazyunderworld It's not really a speech impediment, some accents are just non-rhotic (rhoticity means the tendency of a dialect to pronounce the r after a vowel/before a consonant and at the end of words) while others aren't. Many English dialects are non-rhotic, there's nothing really wrong with it. Hell, in England where the language originated, they have many non-rhotic dialects.
