Thich Nhat Hanh - Being Love -- Teachings to Cultivate Awareness and Intimacy -- (Excerpted From Teachings on Love)
Weaving together traditional stories, personal experiences and core concepts, Thich Nhat Hanh offers step-by-step practices that foster understanding and intimacy in any kind of relationship: between lovers, parents and children, even those who have done us harm.
According to the practice of mindfulness, our complete awareness in the present moment is the key to lasting transformation in all areas of our lives-especially in our most intimate relationships. On Being Love, Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh shows us how to cultivate the four basic qualities of authentic love-maitri (loving-kindness), karuna (compassion), mudita (joy), and upeksha (freedom). When we look deeply into ourselves and our loved ones, these qualities Begin to blossom effortlessly within us, nurturing ourselves and those around us.
------------------------------------------------------------------
I receive many touching comments on the Thich Nhat Hanh videos, and I'm really happy they have managed to reach so many people, and I'm able to help spread his timeless and invaluable teachings. I hope if they have been inspiring and meaningful for you that you can either buy the original recordings or donate to Plum Village, to help contribute to the beautiful and important work that is being done there.
I should also mention that this channel is not monetized in any way. The adverts you see are automatically generated by KZread and I can't switch them off.
Thank you.

    This IS the most beautiful message I have ever listened to, spoken by the most beautiful voice my heart has ever been touched by. I could close my eyes and see myself sitting with a group of other like minded people looking at the Buddha himself, as he speaks these words to us. I am deeply moved to realize that LOVE really IS what I always imagined it to be regardless of how the world has twisted and changed it to be a message of confusion. Please... I want to know more about this. ☺ ♥

    I found the story Thay relates at about 38:00 onward moving and it gave me much solace. My dear wife Ruth has passed away and although we were together for decades, I always did my best for her and she passed away beside me at home, I so often feel I could and should have loved her better. But we were always close and never estranged thank heaven.

    Without hurts, you don't know what love is. Being hurt keeps you feel alive. Let your hearts open to all, even to hurts. Feel the sufferings and befriend your negative emotions. Sufferings are the protection mechanism of human nature. Let's smile to your pain, to your mind and body for keeping you alive :). One day your heart capacity will expand like the river. A grain of salt can make a glass of water salty but cannot irritate the river. Stay blessed.

    This is interbeing. Zen master Thich Nhat Hạnh. ...Consciousness Space, time, and the four great elements are all manifestations of consciousness. In the process of interbeing and interpenetration, our store consciousness ripens in every moment. EVERY DHARMA, every phenomenon, is conditioned. Conditioned dharmas are combinations of other elements. A flower, for example, is made of the elements of clouds, sunshine, seeds, minerals, and so on. In the past, Buddhist masters taught that there are some dharmas that are not conditioned. They said that space is not conditioned by anything, and so it is an “unconditioned dharma.” But we know that just as a flower is made of non-flower elements, space is also made of non-space elements, so it too is a conditioned dharma. “The four great elements” are earth, water, fire, and air. They are the four energies of the material universe. Earth is the energy of solidity. Water is fluid and penetrating. Fire is heat and warmth. Air is the force that leads to movement. These four energies can be transformed into other energies. A waterfall can become electricity and therefore light. We should not think of these four elements as separate or independent. They depend on one another. Sometimes space and consciousness are added to these four fundamental elements to make six elements. Sometimes time and direction bring the list to eight. All the elements, including space and time, are manifestations of consciousness. We usually think of space as something empty. But physicists have shown that when the matter is diluted, it becomes space. The theory of relativity shows that space and matter are one reality. If there is no space, there is no matter. If there is no matter, there is no space. Space-a seemingly empty phenomenon-is able to bend matter, a seemingly solid phenomenon. We look at a galaxy and it appears curved. If you put a branch in a glass vase filled with water, the branch will look as though it is curved, or broken. Time is also energy. Time makes space, and space makes time. Outside of time, there can be no space. Outside of space, there can be no time. Einstein has said clearly that space and time are two aspects of the same reality. Let us go together to climb the nameless mountain, let us sit on the ageless blue-green stone, quietly watching time weave the silken thread that creates the dimension called space. ( Poems of Thich Nhat Hanh ) Space is one aspect of a manifestation of reality. Another aspect is time. We may first see a manifested reality as space, but later it may be seen as time. We think that such a phenomenon as winter belongs to time. In North America, the month of January is considered winter. But if we travel to Australia in January, we find that it is summer there. The Big Bang and the expansion of the cosmos can only be conceived of in terms of space and time. We can see time because we can touch the expansion of the cosmos. We can see the expansion of the cosmos only because we can touch time. Time and space are aspects of the same reality, a reality that manifests itself sometimes as time and sometimes as space. Time and space inter-are. We cannot separate one from the other. Both are manifestations of consciousness. Consciousness manifests in many forms. Consciousness is an energy that helps form the earth, water, fire, and air, the four great elements. Each of the elements contains all the others. We cannot separate reality into pieces and say that this piece is not that piece. We know that this piece includes all the other pieces. One energy includes another, like the waterfall that gives the energy to produce electric light. Our body is an energy and so is our thinking. Each energy influences all the others. This is interbeing. Understanding Our Mind, Thich Nhat Hanh

I think that this can also be described as a broadening of horizons and a heightened sense of awareness and state of being because of years of practice. It has allowed him to see things clearly. I do not know what constitutes enlightenment but I feel like it comes in many forms. Are you well read or well practiced in that aspect? I would love to learn more about it.

    Dear Master, how do we get our partner to practice to listen to us, our inner thoughts and needs without reminding them often. I feel is almost pointless to talk to them when they have no empathy and can never able to comprehend our speech. Thank you

  • @jessecasper6224

    @jessecasper6224

    You're primary responsibility is to yourself. By focusing on how your partner is doing you give away your vital energy, weakening your own practice. By giving your partner total freedom to be exactly as they are, you give yourself the gift of your own powerful attention. And in doing so you give your partner the best environment for them to develop themselves. When you feed the desire to change your partner, you will simultaneously be feeding conflict in the relationship.

    Sally Wong I’m sorry no one answered you. I think what you’re describing is a person who is emotionally unavailable. If that’s the case, they can look into counseling to try to learn how to communicate better. It can be a difficult to be with someone who is emotionally unavailable. It can happen from past traumas. I'm not an expert but just know a little about it. Like the video says you should say Darling I need your help and go from there. I wish you all the best.

    Thich Nhat Hahn says in this video that we are to listen to ourselves if we are to listen to others. How has your self listening been going?

    I ALREADY LOVE MYSELF... ITZ ABOUT LEARNING TO LOVE OTHERS WITHOUT CAUSING SUFFERING TO MYSELF. I TRUST MYSELF EVEN WHEN I DON'T TRUST MYSELF. I AM PART OF GOD TOO. I DON'T LIKE WHEN PEOPLE TRY TO MAKE ME FEEL LIKE I DON'T BELONG. I BELONG EVERYWHERE.

    Tasha Cook fear of causing suffering to oneself is not loving yourself. You must love yourself unconditionally first before you can love others unconditionally. There's nothing to fear about love if you're able to appreciate the contrast and learn from every lessons both negative or positive
