yeah, artists could make paints/statues that could give certain bonus when placed in your stronghold. Like monsters trophys works in other games, you buy some statue of a globin that some artist build and suddlen you understand more about globins, that could give you a certain bonus when figthing globins or maybe giving acess to areas/quest realated to that piece of art. And the artist himself should be am specialist in that creature killing hundreds of than looking for a rare drop necessarie for his art or gathering lore itens from those monster to increase your affnity whit that certain tipy of mob/npc/area. Imagine being am artist specialized in painting a certain rare spawn dragon, because you are one of the fewwer professional artists that have slayed that certain dragon multiples times and now your paint give lore hints about places where theres dragons spawn or giving acess to a brand new quest realated with that mob, that only players that own a paiting can access.

The coolest thing about this whole showcase is, there are ZERO loading screens, not for entering the housing area, not when entering the house. This is why I love WoW classic so much, almost no loading screens. Now you can be questing or farming mobs in the background and see this place, and see someone busy on their lot. Super cool.

They got called "illegal tree farms" and hunting them down or hiding your own was some good shit. Friends and I would set alarms so we'd be there when the trees matured, you'd usually see the owner of the trees there and make them watch as you harvest 😂

The mounts persisting actualy is quite genious imo. Simple, but adds so much immersion.

Can't wait until I stumble on a free hold at night with a giant bonfire in the middle and players chanting and as the chants crescendo into orgiastic ecstacy the pig is sacrificed to their dark god.

im very happy they fixed the long distance fog/haze color, it used to be pure white and highly unrealistic looking, now its much more natural for the vistas, very dope

In Archage you had protection on your specific plot of land, you could grow things(trees) outside of your area but people could harvest them. Which is why people would go way out in the middle of nowhere to plant stuff

The rabbit mount reminds me one of the GW2 mount with jump speciality, Skipper.

Free holds this month, sounds like nodes and crafting the next two months after that. I'd be willing to bet spot testing will be starting soon after. The only thing really needing to be done at that point is optimization before Alpha 2 and the removal of the NDA. Hopefully Alpha 2 sometime before the end of the year

The thing that I liked in this video is the wind. I do hope that we see mount footprints. I miss those.

This is a game where you can just run around and appreciate the beauty of the environment. I can see myself running around a lot when I'm done with my dailies or dungeon runs.

I wonder if freeholds could be put side by side eventually creating player made towns. Gilds could really do some interesting stuff if that's the case

when you get the freehold plot, its a very large area and you can place anywhere inside that area, so I guess technically you could have up to 4 quite close if they meet on the edges?

Combat is everything. If there is one thing they need to nail it's combat. The combat is tied to pretty much everything you do so if it's bad then everything feels bad.

the sheep thing is kind of easy to do, you just have a fur shader or a fur material on a hair card mesh that either disappears or in the case of a shader you can have a flat mesh that causes the fur go from flat to fluffy with a slider

They mentioned autumn weather and there were actual leaves falling when the wind blew. Now THAT’S attention to detail man. I was kinda giving up on this game but it’s starting to look insanely good. The scenery also looks beautiful. Now i’m getting really excited.

This game is one of 3 games that got me really hyped years back. I suspect none of those 3 will release before life makes MMO’s infeasible to dive into. Warhammer 40k: Dark Millenium and Star Citizen were the other two

Ngl this looks awesome. I always love games with player housing that provides resources to help make the game more enjoyable and the immersion looks great!

Little finishing touch when gathering is when you gather materials that the weapons hit the face of the item your gathering depending on its unique shape instead of a fixed anchor point.

One major possibly that I think the freeholds present is the ability to for players to create their own mini-worlds inside the game. I could fully see somebody building a more castle-like freehold as it's own explorable area, just somewhere out in the wilderness. Sort of like a mini dungeon, with the chest system being utilized for some sort of loot (crafted items? reousrces? etc). There are really just so many ways these plots of land could be put to use

Build a tavern and you can do just that. The taverns will have parlor games for everyone to partake in.

Just want to note that if you're not interested in fighting guilds for freeholds then there will be other types of housing for you to use.

There is an Arcane Golem upgrade on the freehold... It's in the freehold stream

Making little parking lots for your mounts will be part of the social experience. Why is that alone getting me hyped lol

Asmon needs to watch the full dev update cuz they go over A LOT more info about the freeholds before and after the video.

Learn blacksmithing to get the weapons needed to beat the boss ect. All 100 floors of aincrad. And then ide like a fps GGO game with the city and gun range and tournaments like battle royals that people could watch on screens in bars in the game and gun shops. Maybe no monsters just a giant open world ffa where the city is a safe place. I'm a huge SAO fan but not so much the alicization arc. The new aincrad movies through Asunas perspective is cool. Would be awesome if they made a 300 episode series of the entire aincrad experience with more in depth details. No skips. 😊

Would be cooler if some plots were better positioned for different processing pipelines. They already have tetris inventory, they could do tetris processing pieces to set up a factorio looking thing. Plug this piece into here and now the leather you make from hide is more durable, whatever. Basically, a reason to get mutiple houses, or a reason to visit guildmates' houses. No one-stop-shop shut-in stuff

Agreed, its a concept that seems nice but usually becomes a mess with scale. I don't mind player housing for static plots and with modular décor, but freeform usually looks like trash for 90% of houses. Plus the performance hit when you have player housing.

I like housing but i'd love that more mmorpg would put emphasis in social spaces like open world tavern/bar or gladiator arena where peolpe could meet and hang out (like the pvp zones in GW2 or House district in FF14). I wanna hear the tales of ragnar the red !

best MMO are the ones that charge montly Fee thats all they need to create the next big MMO - issue is new player generation (wich represents the majority) dont want or cant pay that fee - so there will never bee a great MMO ever again unless developer teams change their minds make games for players and get just 5 - 6% profit just so you can keep yourself alive xD

Instead of nodes of ore, like every other mmo and their dog has, you should be able to prospect and mine anywhere. And there would be places where the yields and veins are naturally high, and you could improve on yields with prospecting skill which you would level along your smithing/smelting. Would be great.

Gold and crafting resources are the only and best currency for an MMO.

IF the pigs fall asleep instead of killing them, that would mean you are skinning and flaying their flesh off while they're still alive. Think about that one lol.

Honestly after playing genshin and elden ring i really have come to prefer instant gathering. Though being on edge while gathering in wog classic is also a nice approach.

I bought into the Alpha during Kickstarter a back in 2017. When they came out with the Battle Royale thing and all the attention was turned to that, I was disappointed (I don't care for that genre) and set the game interest aside to only occasionally check on development progress. Nice to know that the Alpha 2 is actually out after all this time.

Ultima Online had a vary similar mechanic with sheep...most people just killed em cuz they spawned faster than the wool grew

Dang, this is really gonna be the game of all time.

the problem is this game is going to rely on a player base that really values RP and immersion but i just dont know if that is a big enough population to support something like this.

It's a PvX game, where PvE and PvP are intertwined mechanically to bring about creation and destruction in the world. The PvE players will create, and the PvP players will destroy shit to keep the game loop going and create change (though both will have to participate in both aspects to some degree eventually). Steven wants to create a system where different aspects of the playerbase feed off of each other. There isn't going to be aspects of the game that are completely isolated from each other.

Freeholds are limited in availability, so I feel like 95% of players will never have one. Sounds like it's going to be a lot of gameplay content for 5% of the playerbase to enjoy.

You know that people can give access to the freehold to other people ? So you join a guild (because AoC will be a game based around guilds and groups), and you profit from the advantage of the freehold

Freeholds is one of the many housing options. Its the top tier of housing.

Pigs could behave as resource multipliers - feed them corn and other scrap resources, and over time they mature into adult hogs, then you kill them and get compound interest stored in the pork of the resources you fed them.

finding crops to stela in archeage was an amazingly dangerous minigame

I want to like this game, the team seems so dedicated but this seems like something we wont see completed for like 5 more years lol "Yay we can mine rocks now"....
