In another life I learned a couple of very cold lessons, I have carried those lessons with me since and they have proven to be on point over and over. Always assume that your intelligence is half assed at best. Always assume that the enemy is better trained and better equipped than you. Always assume that once you step into indian country, you are on your own. No one is coming to save you. the way you plan your ops changes drastically from the way you were taught, the way you train takes on a more serious, intense focus. My Gov't has made sure to make this quite clear over and over and over. to those of you who have seen it first hand congrats on surviving. That's why I left that life behind, that's why I am dead set against my kids serving. When officers get a silver star and never crossed the wire that tells me everything I need to know.

For some, it was the best thing. For others, it's a shit mess. The peacetime military is bad too, with officers and NCOs willing to stab their own in the back to get that promotion, ass kissing to despicable levels toxic leadership, whatever it takes to get ahead because there is bot combat to prove their competence.

I'm surprised there weren't any collaterals throughout the whole show considering how freaking ballsy Reece was. I guess the only "innocents" he killed were the Talos tac guards since they seemed less like corporate goons and more like security for hire, guarding what they probably considered another influential figure for a fat cheque (who happened to not be a bad guy in this case) so them being gunned down was just a sad case of bad luck and bad timing.

One of his closest and most trusted friends set him up to die for money. Exactly how do you forgive that. Ben's actions led to his daughter and wife being murdered. Indirectly yes, but still.

It's a very cliche story and nothing about it is really that surprising in the writing. It's been done so many times before in cinema with far less screen time afforded to it. It's a good mindless binge, but it really isn't a masterpiece of film making by any conceivable scale. It just appeals to peopl who think that content like this is the greatest thing since sliced bread. If you really think about it, it's actually a piece of very creepily-crafted propaganda. The bad guys are only a few bad apples and it only goes up so far - the highest level "bad guy" never meant for any of it, blah blah blah. It's just trying to polish the tattered reputation of US military actions and the nature of open collusion between giant financial businesses, the military and politicians. Then to top it all off, they finish with the greatest cliche of nonsense of all: That a piece of actual journalism in a mainstream news agency caused overhaul inside the Pentagon. It's total make-believe fairy stories for grown-ups. The US news media has been a controlled arm of its government since Watergate and its consequences. Every actual journalist of the 70s replaced with brainless hack yes-men who will bury and block stories on orders of US intelligence/government (Edward Snowden/Julian Assange). It's about as realistic as the American Dream concept.
