They told me I'd find NOTHING! (Metal Detecting Showgrounds with the Nokta Legend)

Спорт

I had a relaxing afternoon metal detecting some showgrounds for my first ever land-based hunt with the Nokta Legend metal detector. Some event operators had already detected the grounds on their way out and decided to tell me this as they left, but surely they've left something nice for me...

G'day Mish, They should know better, no one gets everything, Ive done several patches by gridding from multiple directions over and over, and still manage to find good targets, some that almost scream out, Here I am! and I wonder how could I possibly have missed them, I recently hit an event site, my first one, thinking i might find some petrol money, super hard ground, having to use a screwdriver to break open the soil, and barely enough grass to hide an ant under, no goldies or any other decimals, but like you i got a florin and also a com penny, so goldies or not, im going back, And the older gentleman that stopped to talk to you about his experience's, its worthwhile listening, sometimes they have some good information that can lead you to a great hunting ground. you never know!... have a great weekend Mish, now go get your feet wet! Cheers!

1953 was a great year. I was born. The year after my parents were married and Elizabeth 2 was corinated. She has now passed. I'm not a monicist however suddenly I feel old. Having said that, it needs to be remembered that 1 & 2 cent pieces are part of our history just like pre decimal coins and need to be put into that category. They don't make them any more. Still love to find them even if they tend to get you a chase, the damn things. Threepences tend to give you a chase also. Great video. Cheers John

Good hunt! The washers with the sharp edges are possibly the cut out portion when using a hole saw on sheet metal. Whenever someone hits me with the nothing left thing I just remember my favorite saying- NOBODY gets it all! And I often am the nobody because return trips almost always produce more finds.

Hey, Mish! I just wanted to let you know I did NOT get all stressed out when I saw the knife blade sticking up out of the bag as you squatted down, and then bent over forward with the sticky-stabbey part pointed at your stomach....nope. I did not get tense at all. I'm going to assume you survived and congratulate you on your Florin! Once again you find something in places others have cleaned, scoured, and scrubbed. I've heard you explain so many times in your videos about why you chose that particular place to hunt and what you expect to find, and those intros really help set the scenery, so to speak. I love that you took this one as a personal challenge and showed what experience, the right equipment and most importantly, the right attitude can accomplish. Well done, Mish! As always, friend, I'm looking forward to your next adventure! Take care, be safe, and watch those knife blades! Later!

Well done mate. I once had a bloke tell me it was no use detecting an area because it was flogged and it was flogged by him. I may as well go home instead of wasting my time. I was digging a coin spill at the time and a toy car was close by. I reckon I know what had been flogged and by whom. Glad you got a token but we might be able to knock the trainer wheels off that and get a better one very soon. Congrats on the silvers in the detected ground ( I’ll get over it soon too🤣) Catch you soon 👍😁

Hi Ecks, thanks for the comment. I know about the Bluetooth setting however it’s my decision to keep it on 1; despite the KZread presence I am quite introverted in person and I am not fond of attracting attention with the detector noise, also there’s around a 5ms lag between the headset and speaker which drives me nuts. 😂 When I’m out in the wild you’re more likely to hear it on an external speaker. Cheers. 😊

Hey Mish. The 6 inch coil is my go-to for those trashy areas. It’s a little ripper! Also, if you want to check a goldie vs bottle cap then up the BC filter in one mode (I use field) and leave it low in your preferred mode (park). Then all you need to do is profile switch between them on a 41-43 signal. Works great for me every time! Big thumbs up from Tassie.

Thanks Blake, after that run I'd definitely use the 6 in the first few spots, but stick with the 11 for the last bit. That's a very clever idea with the filter -- you're a thinker!! G’day Rick, sorry I do try to occasionally call out bits of info like that, to be honest I don’t actually rely on the depth indicator often as I’m listening more to the size and strength of the signal to make my assumptions. The depth indicator is generally only accurate on a coin-sized target, a large deep can can read shallow due to the intensity of the signal and a tiny shallow target may actually show as if it is at depth. I will try to point out what the screen is saying a little more in future vs my own thoughts on what it means. Cheers 😊

Hey Mish currently living at showground did my 1st practice over the back. No goodies yet. Do you get permission to do it or being public ground don't need to ?

In this particular case it is a public ground maintained by a local council, a council worker could reasonably request me to stop if I were causing issues however generally speaking, they see me removing trash and leaving the place as neat (if not neater!) than I found it. Often they just want to know if I’m having any luck. 😂 Respectful conversations are key. 😊 happy hunting and try to think of the spots where people would spend cash, or perhaps sit down to eat and play!

Are they any poisonous/venomous bugs or reptiles to be on the lookout for?

  • @DirtFishMish

    @DirtFishMish

There’ll be snakes about in the scrubby parts, and some of the ants in the area can give a painful bite. Spiders are not so prevalent out in the open on a hot day. Most critters will try to avoid us… except for some of the ant varieties… they’re ferocious. 😂

Next time can you take the headphones off or make it come out through the speakers on the detector I’m not sure if it has a External speaker on the legend

  • @DirtFishMish

Yes they do have an external speaker, and can broadcast simultaneously to both (but the micro delay to the headset makes it impractical to have both on). These days I typically let folks have a little listen to the headset where I can before digging, I personally choose not to run the speaker in built-up areas as I’m self-conscious about it. Cheers 😊

Love my legend so far, great finds, check out Liam Dyson for great tips, i tried field mode M2 on my last outing in dirt, tone break at 8 in first segment, 6 tone, recovery at 4 or5 depending on how deep you want to go, lower the deeper, but u gotta slow down, 6 inch coil kicks butt and pinpointing is excellent

I’ll check him out sometime, Harold! I personally prefer modes targeted at high conductive targets, simply because I personally value silver as well as old copper coins above the low conductors (yes, even gold! 😊). I’ve been running the multi-wet mode most of the time on the beach though simply because it seems to work much better on my sands, more tweaking to do there. 6 tone is my favourite at this stage as well. Cheers 😁

I came into the hobby after the etrac, but I ran a 600 for the first few years on this channel. Deus II’s base modes are relatively easy, however tweaking it is not as user-friendly as other machines eg Minelab, Nokta. Cheers 😊
