@@laur6405 I think some of the Pentiums also shipped with discrete nVidia GPU. IIRC it was 8600M GS/GT for the C2D, and 8400M GS or simply G for the Pentiums, and they were marked ZG. I remember the one I got was a ZG at its core, only subsequently upgraded to a T7500 by me, as well as a 9300M GS (G98) in place of the 8400MG it came with. There were some ATI iterations w/ HD2300 and 2400 I think, but these were usually rare - most of the ones I'm seeing pop up every now and then are nVidia based or the standard Intel GMA versions. An neat mod that those allow - the 7720 LVDS cable works on them (with no modifications whatsoever!) and can provide dual-link signals, which means you can drop a 1440x900 15.4 display (I have one in mine, taken from a scrap ASUS X59SR) or even 1680x1050.

Andrew, your work is absolutely first class, I love watching your videos.
The truth is that the result of this laptop is phenomenal, it looks beautiful. greetings from Argentina
I loved this series: Exceptional keyboard, switchable graphics, stable case and beautiful design. The best series they ever had!
The way you clean any device shows your decidication in making these things work again. Its refreshing. The least anyone can do for their device is to keep it clean and make sure the airflow remains fine(a pillow/mattress is your laptop life killer!) Just these simple tips have helped me keep my current device running like new for 5 years. Its that simple really.
I have the Athlon 64 variant of this with the Nvidia GPU, this laptop type is a dream for a Windows XP 32 Bit for me. The one I picked up from a garage sale had a dual Hard drive bay caddy aswell, it is a very nice laptop. Whenever I watch one of your videos I want too go buy another laptop or desktop and tinker.
Andrew, I would love to have one of your refurbished computers, because your work is first-class, and I know it would perform above and beyond a stock version.
I have been waching it from since early 2020 and its been 3 years now and still I like this content I hope you can keep it up because i learned most repair from your videos...
I love watching you fix things up. This was my favorite laptop for a long time. I just like the way it looks. It kind of reminds me of a fisher price record player in like it almost seems as if it was a laptop made for kids. I remember this being very good for ripping dvd's but quite possibly nothing much else.
That Acer lappy design was so cool !!! I cannot believe afterwards started looking plain-meh instead, in general not just Acer. Some similar Acer laptops also had a subwoofer underneath, and the entire sound system was not very loud but sounded really good! I did not like that the GPUs got hot and you could not run an integrated - there wasn't any, and there were no lower-powered GPUs to replace with...
What a beautiful machine! I love the early 2000's aesthetic! And it cleaned up so NICE! Man, I could watch your stuff all day. Better than therapy! 😆
My Dad had this laptop back in 2010 he mainly used it for work. When he changed jobs he gave it to me to use for school, and I had a lot fond memories with it. Gaming, Movies, KZread me and my brothers rotated using it cause it was the only one we had. I was still using it up until 2015 and I mainly used it for my studies in college, right around that time the screen broke. I wanted to repair it but the tech guy recommended to buy a new one instead since it was already so old and slow, I bought a new hp laptop then and is still getting used today after some upgrades. But I didn't throw my Acer away its still with me chilling in my room as a display piece and after watching this I'm thinking of fixing it up again.

I had this laptop years ago as a kid and remember playing CS 1.6 on it for hours, thank you for bringing back the nostalgia.
ah, another beautiful work, well done bro.

Nice video, Andrew. I never thought that laptop would appear.
Recently started watching your videos, you are doing great work. would you do a video about how you prepare and paint your mods, I mainly work on PCs but you're an inspiration. Keep up the great work
I really missed the modded laptop series but you're still doing an amazing job 👍
That was very nice. You have inspired me to fix and keep some old laptops for sentimental and nostalgic reasons. If you could help me find some extra room to store them in, that would be very helpful! 😉
Favorite laptop in the past 😁
i would definitely want that laptop again!
changing the termal pastel should prevent it for getting gpu issues that this model usually has (mine sadly have this problem and does not boot). great video as always!
It's cool to see another laptop saved from e-waste. Great video! I wouldn't suggest connecting a Windows 7 machine to the internet, though.
Great job again Andrew, but I missed 'This is the Final Result' LOL. Looking forward to a new mod project. Hugs
Good job!😊

Andrew I have to say I have been watching you for years but still to this day not seen this Cat character. Starting to think he doesn't exist.
I still have my Acer 5920g, which still works. Upgraded to almost the max, T5550 to T7700, 8600m GS to 9600 GT, 4GB ram, SSD, intel 5100 wifi. The only laptop I own with a subwoofer and blu ray drive.

Very good.
I used to daily drive a Aspire 5315, a older version of the 5720G. Damn how I loved that laptop, I only swapped it because I really needed something bigger, but went all the way from my 12 years old to way late into my 18's with that beast and I loved it so much At the end of it, I got a Dell Latitude E5520(still going strong with it) and gave away my 5315 to my younger brother who was itching to have his first laptop
It's aways good watch your videos
i love acer 5739g . old but good laptop :)

Amazing restoration Andrew, where do you find these machines and how would that machine fair against a Linux distro and steams new proton?
Thank you Andrew, your work has helped me renew my old laptops. I want to use egpu set up but it becomes very messy. I've watched your video on aluminum egpu case but the dimensions link doesn't work. Can you kindly share the link to the aluminum egpu stand dimensions? Thank you
I'm so happy you installed window 7, instead of that horrible win 10
I have a 5720G too! Mine has Nvidia grapichs instead of AMD, but still working perfectly fine after 13 years of use
Wonderful ❤
Hey Great Video.....I was just curious as to where you get those old games from? I really wanna try them out again
The AMD or rather ATI (Mobility Radeon) HD4670 is probably the fastest GPU that will work in that laptop. It will run hot though, so maybe stick to the HD 4650 at most. I have the 5920 which is a model up from yours, but not really. With default BIOS they will not support Nvidia 9000 series GPU like the 9600M GT. The 9500M GT likely should work since it is a rebranded 8600M GT. The HD4650 and Nvidia 9600M GT are comparable GPUs. I found a modded BIOS for my 5920, that would allow Nvidia 9600 GPU to run. I put a 9600M GT GDDR3 in it, and it did run hot. My CPU temps went from about 70'C in gaming to 80'C. It was the GDDR3 video RAM that made the heat. Since both the CPU and GPU run from the same fan and heatsink in the 5920.
If that was toner from a laser printer, a tip I found elsewhere on the Internet is that you can clean it up with a magnet, perhaps wrapped with paper towel or something. Toner is supposed to be attracted to magnets.
I think it would be really cool to see you restore old apple laptops like the ibooks

I have an old fujitsu v6555, and man it's so easy to upgrade. I will get a new battery since it died recently and new thermal paste too, but it's an old gaming laptop disguised as an office laptop. It's an decent laptop if you don't use new program that are really forcing it.
Laptops of the late 2000s were something else. Today's budget laptop: Just a tiny SBC in there with everything soldered on, EMMC storage soldered on, and a chassis that's emptier than our future. Not to mention modern batteries are pillows that eventually puff hard enough to rip the case open.

I had an Acer Z5720 but it always broke down. I eventually got rid of it. Now I have a Compaq Presario A900 and a dell inspiron mini. Also I used many parts from the Acer to repair my Compaq.
I had this laptop but the regular one. Had battery fault but the rest were okay as well
I love old laptops
Upgradable CPUs were such a neat thing to have... Got a crappy i3 struggling for dear life? No problem, replace it with a strong i5 or even i7 and those CPUs could be had for cheap if they were a bit older (i.e. Haswell or Sandy Bridge). A CPU swap could be done in under 10 minutes if you knew what to do and it didn't involve tearing the entire laptop apart. I do appreciate thinner laptops and more performance, but we did give a lot up to get those improvements.
I like it 👍
Hello sir, did you try another OS like linux, do you thing they are going to have a better performance on these old machines?
It almost reminds of of the Clamshell iBooks from the late 90s early 2000s

It would also be perfect for retro gaming and emulation, I guess =)

Hello, love watching your channell, Just one question though, you installed Win 7 - Fair enough for the speed of the machine, but then you followed that by saying it is ok for the web and online videos, - There lies the ??. Is Win 7, 8 and 8.1 safe for the internet in general since no security updates are now available? or are you working behind a firewall??
I just picked up a dell latitude e7240 with a fried motherboard from the dumpster. Even though it was broken but I got a 128gb ssd, a working display and 4gb of ram. All of that valued around 50 to 80 dollars, not a lot but that’s pretty good

Hello Andrew Thanks to your videos I have restored several old computers but I decided to install Linux distributions to emprove the user experience. I know Windows is the most used OS but it is not because of that, the next OS. In a futre video why not to restore a computer, install Windows and after install a Linux distribution and compare the user experience ?
hi Andrew. 03:17 this is not %99 isopropyl alcohol. this is 80 degree Eyüp Sabri Tuncer Lemon Cologne :)
0:48 How the hell is this laptop still alive! That heatsink was completely blocked and the air from the fan cannot pass through, no wonder why the fan was loud! Had this not been caught, the laptop could have overheated further, to the point of CPU/GPU/Chipset failure. I think it's only the dual heatsink pipes (separate heatsink pipes for CPU/GPU) that actually kept this thing alive.
I have an acer aspire es1-520 I would like to know what operating system you recommend, I currently have windows 10 pro (miniOS) and the truth is I feel quite slow, this laptop has an amd e1 2500 1.40ghz integrated graphics radeon 8240, I upgraded it to 8gb of ram in ddr3, I still have a 500gb mechanical disk but soon I will put an ssd of at least 128gb
Do you have any repair videos on a Samsung?
Not bad at all if I say so. No idea what CPU upgrades are possible though if you did decide to upgrade the T5250. And yeah, DDR2 systems are usually limited to 4GB RAM - fine with 7 and Vista (I note this laptop had a Vista OEM key) but 4GB is a bit of a struggle with Windows 10. Also, Chrome no longer gets updates for 7 and 8/8.1, but you can still install the older version.
@terrydaktyllus1320
Жыл бұрын
"No idea what CPU upgrades are possible though if you did decide to upgrade the T5250." A T7200 CPU is usually a "sweet spot" for price and power as an upgrade here, they are quite cheap on eBay. It has a similar 34W TPD and 667 MHz bus speed to the T5250 but a 2 GHz speed and 4MB cache, as opposed to 1.5 GHz and 2 MB cache for the T5250. But ultimately it depends on the BIOS if it would support that as an upgrade. "And yeah, DDR2 systems are usually limited to 4GB RAM" No, that's not strictly true - most of them will take 8GB RAM. I do a lot with refurbishing and repairing IBM and Lenovo Thinkpads and every DDR2 laptop I have from them will take 8GB as long as the chipset allows it. In the case of the T60, the Intel 945PM and 945GM chipsets will only address a maximum of 3GB RAM. The T61 will happily take 8GB DDR2 RAM but the problem is the cost of 4GB DDR2 SODIMM modules - in most cases, it simply isn't cost effective to pay $30-$50 for a 4GB DDR2 RAM module. "4GB is a bit of a struggle with Windows 10" Of course it is, Microsoft needs lots of RAM for all that telemetry and data that it steals from you. I have a very low opinion of people that run Windows 10 who, in turn, have a low opinion of their own data and data privacy. I rid myself of my Microsoft abuser when support for Windows 7 ended and now just run custom Gentoo Linux builds. "Also, Chrome no longer gets updates for 7 and 8/8.1" I also have a low opinion of people who run Chrome - not only are they content with giving their personal information to Microsoft but also to Google. A Core 2 Duo laptop with around a 2GHz CPU and 4GB RAM will happily run Linux Mint or a lighter Linux version, and have the latest security updates and browser versions.

This laptop supports most core 2 duo P8000 and P9000 CPUs and core 2 quad q9100 too. So if you upgrade to one of these CPUs, you'll be even able to upgrade this PC to windows 11. (But the RAM usage is high in Windows 11 so 4 gb ram can cause performance problems and this laptop uses intel GM45 or GM47 chipset.

@@alpyguven7787 "This laptop supports most core 2 duo P8000 and P9000 CPUs and core 2 quad q9100 too." You need to be REALLY careful when you make that statement because in my experience, there are laptops out there that only support P8*** or P9*** Penryn CPUs but not both. If there's a T5250 in there already, then that's a Merom CPU that supports a 667 MHz bus, yet the Penryn's go up to 1066 MHz bus speed. I would seriously doubt your claim here is correct, though I specialise in IBM and Lenovo Thinkpads. "So if you upgrade to one of these CPUs, you'll be even able to upgrade this PC to windows 11." Windows 11 is not an upgrade, it is surveillance software by Microsoft. Windows 11 also has a workable footprint of at least 8GB RAM because of all telemetry and data it is stealing in the background. Only babies and fools run Windows 11, adults run Linux.
