They Sell Your Data to EVERYONE
Ғылым және технология
Data brokers know a lot about us. They silently harvest any information they can find, by purchasing information, using trackers, scraping social media, ingesting data breaches.
They compile this information into databases, and sell access so that others can sift through the most private and sensitive areas of our lives.
In this video we pull back the curtain on a largest player in this industry - LexisNexis Risk Solutions, and talk about their giant contracts to sell data to governments.

Data is the new currency. Let’s take back control of our information, and make more conscious choices about the technology we use.
The future has not yet been written -- let's write one where privacy prevails and the balance of power lies with the individual. Let's fight against the creeping normalization of surveillance in our lives.

We've all lost so much privacy that (to me) it feels hopeless now. Government and companies are cooperatively mass-stalking. We're not even people, we're consumers.

When you cannot act without everything about your actions and intent being known, your significance is removed. Thats the same thing as chains. The dark ages had iron chains. For a while there were silk chains. Now they are invisible chains. I agree with Naomi. Privacy is the hill to die on, on principle alone.

'Surveillance Capitalism" is a great documentary on this subject. Fact: Surveillance Capitalism now generates more income than all of the world-wide oil industry.
It's incredibly intrusive! It's disheartening to consider that in the past, you were required to pay in order to have your name listed in a directory. However, nowadays, you're expected to pay a substantial amount to keep your information from being accessible to the public. What baffles me is the reason behind making these private details public. This poses a serious risk to individuals who have faced stalking or abuse. There have been numerous cases where such people have suffered harm or even been killed by their abusers. Many celebrities can minimize the extent of their public information due to their abundant resources. But what about the rest of us? I'm astonished that there haven't been legal actions taken against these companies, or that lawmakers haven't deemed these practices illegal. So much for those constitutional rights!

Oh of course. it was stated in the game dues ex that it was barely beginning there and now it's making companies a small fortune for spying on people without their knowledge and what it may lead to can be dangerous.

Another awesome presentation by the lovely and talented Naomi...Sorry, I couldn't help myself, lol.
You are the superhero of privacy. Super Naomi
When info about you is wrong, guess what happens? You can have it removed, and it boomerrangs back onto your report, from the original source. You might not get a job, and then your life is altered, and one day, 10 years later, you discover the data is wrong, and prevented you from ever getting a job requiring clearance. For that reason, YOU are the only one they do not want to give info they have about YOU. Your attempts to correct your data, costs them money, they do not want to do it. and one of the companys you mentioned, is actually known by people in the club as "Predatory publishing", because to keep your info private you gotta pay, and if you dont know how/where how to pay, you are not in the club.

One of the best paying gigs I had was working for a Data Broker, the worst, worst, I felt in a while, about the morality of my employers business was when I worked for the data brokers. yet, they are not breaking laws. they are the law. if they break the law, they change the law. If I mentioned the employer chain, by name, this comment would disappear.
if you stop reporting your address to government agencies, and opt out your information, they definitely will need to get a warrant. Government officials hate that someone knows their constitutional rights!

Naomi!, ThanksMuch!
I did a pretty big dive into this a while ago. It was shocking to see Google, for as much data as they collect, only give it to the third parties you allow. Where Apple's privacy policy is third parties already have access and they're the privacy company.

Very scary. What worries me back in Aus is everyone jumping on electronic payments where cash is predicted to be dead in 3 to 5 years as less places accept cash....how can we fight this invasion to privacy when it's forced on you

Banks also report certain transactions to the Treasury on a regular basis. Government uses reported bank data to by-pass getting court orders to review your private financial transactions.
I am so frustrated about this topic and yes I understand that the ever day person clicks on apps that say they are free, but I feel the law should change and change very quickly as,and I don’t mean to sound rude in any way but I think we as a general population are being well I won’t swear but you know what I mean and I think with the work you-tubers are doing we might be able to stop this legal criminal activity.i love your channel and hope you reach out to as many other KZread users and maybe just maybe we can band together and stop this exploitation ASAP.
Your channel is finally blowing up, and that's well deserved, great content 👍

Thank you for this video, and please continue with your great content, Naomi!💪👍❤ Now we're aware that anyone equipped with this information, Ai or Human, either or both would be able to accurately and precisely predict YOUR future!
I do the best that I can, but there is still so much that we don't know, and/or how to implement such methodologies to mitigate surveillance. And if I find some of this just tedious, overwhelming, daunting, etc., (you get the picture) and I am someone who worked I.T., I can't imagine how the normal layperson does not want to just throw their hands up in the air and say F*uk-it, take my info, I just don't care anymore ! There need to be a centralized location or data base (irony), that can guide us through the steps ! So that we don't have to be forever paranoid, and relegated to using Tales on a flash drive that we constantly have to carry on our person. I know that Naomi does her part, but she can't do it all, and I for one thank her for her efforts !
How can we see the information they have on us? The problem is the most important information they have on us isn't collected from our online activity but from our financial activity and everything else. We can't even turn our TV on without agreeing to their terms. We lost our right to privacy a long time ago.
Great video! very scary stuff.

Mentioning California's privacy laws gave me a little chuckle. The idea of national boundaries and law when addressing data is anachronistic, just like the illusion of freedom without cost.

althought there's GDPR in Europe but it isn't well implemented, at least where I'm from teachers in university still displayed your grades with your full name to everyone in the class, and public offices still tell you to write your name on a waiting list for everyone to see, and doctors still call you into the doctor's office by your name only 1 of my doctors actually uses random numbers to identify patients
I would love to read your book but unfortunately, I live in Germany and I can only find your book on Amazon. I've deleted my Amazon account a long time ago.

Someone should do a multivariate study of the nature of the data in their reports versus demographic factors and in particular inconsistencies between the available data of various wealth classes or political connections or activist activities. i.e. Do they sensor their data collection and/or their data reporting to protect certain classes or segments of society, or are they completely neutral?
So should we start charging for our signatures at the doctor's office?
Simple rule of the game. You want to play, you’ve got to pay.
Hello Naomi! 👋🏼 I just wiped my SSD and reinstalled Win11 with a local account and when I go to “Library” in Microsoft Store it shows the apps I’ve previously installed (with a cloud icon on the side), my question is… why? This is a new Windows installation and I didn’t sign in to my Microsoft account anywhere

Because your computer still has the same hardware fingerprint and that can be checked even if you disable all telemetry. They match the hardware fingerprint and/or windows licence and show results based on that.

@@matthewnirenberg: Then how do you actually delete the hardware details ? Is this why I have lost some of my old phones... and I have been getting some whopping funny calls? I once bought a second hand BB as well.. and this caused a lot of issues as well. This is also why I have actually been blocked in many areas as well isn't it... And SIMs.... omg... And this explains why so many dirty hardwares on the market, circulating, but they boost actual data economy.. that's why !!!!
@matthewnirenberg

@@MeiinUK you can't. The hardware fingerprint can be altered at your end by changing key pieces of hardware such as the motherboard, CPU and RAM. Do note though that this may still not change things enough as most hardware fingerprints have a tolerance level to permit a certain number of changes whilst still accepting it as the original.
Don't forget refinitive. Who scan public social media pages, massage and sell it. And that's what we know. How about what we don't know.
Our data is the new oil.
what about safari?
But, what can we do, really? Specially if I live in a third world country where they don't care at all about privacy and there are almost not laws to protect ourselves. I use a most secure browser blocking and deleting all cookies, I use bitwarden, tutamail, dd wrt router, and yet, I don't feel secure, because I know there's a lot of ways they keep access my data and it's a history that will never ends
