They REJECTED our PEAS! Mold? Moisture? Not fun...

We had our hopes up that our building of peas could be cleaned out and equipment stored inside but that all ended when two trucks from entirely different storage on our farm were rejected. It is not great to spend hours prepping trucks, filling them, and then turn around and dump them back in the same spot they came from. But it isn't the end of the world as hanging onto the peas longer could mean better prices in the future.

    Hey Nick! Getting equipment and machinery to cooperate when it's bitterly cold is about the toughest thing about farming. When I farmed (+20 years ago), hauling grain to the elevator when the bottom dropped out of the thermometer was an exercise in patience, determination and sheer will to accomplish the goal. I remember trying to haul wheat in the bitter cold...not fun. I had an auger with a B&S motor for power. Dad had a trick where he'd warm up a teapot of water on the stove in the house and pour the scalding water on the carburetor of the motor to warm the air and gas going into the motor.. It always worked but I wonder why the pot metal of the carburetor didn't crack. Simply defies physics. We'd haul in the bitter cold because no one was crazy enough to do what we did. This way there wasn't a long line of trucks to have to wait for. Thanks for sharing your world with us Nick...take care.

  • @jfdb59

    @jfdb59

    I was thinking about this too as I've climbed a TON for work. Seems to me like the most likely spot to miss step would be on the top inclined part where you can only get your toes on the rung, not your whole foot. Then there is nothing to stop you from sliding right off the side to the ground. Even a couple risers off the vertical ladder would increase safety quite a bit. They could be shop fabbed and bolted on. Something to catch instead of going all the way down. Your idea of tie off cables would be even easier to install. Though would require a harness to be there.

    A big enough wooden flat board to fit over the turbo housing is the absolute best way however if the intake is still on the truck or vehicle then yes a fire extinguisher is the next best thing to stop there airflow.you just don't want to be putting a fire extinguisher in a running engine that could easily potentially be saved if the turbo is open or the intake has a flat surface for the board to seal.

    @@BlueDually4x4 I would imagine but keep those pages completely flat with no air in between them even I know the trick of tearing a large home book and 1/2 I bet you if the circumstances were just straight and you put it on a turbo like that and probably rip itn I'm half LMFAO

    That was a reassuring video somehow. Thanks for creating and posting it! We see the year is turning....harvest is now over for a little while, the blessed Holidays have come, been enjoyed and are now behind us, and now we turn and accept the year that's just beginning. I'm so grateful you guys take us along, even if we're spending a moment listening to hear if the third semi starts with just a little ether, you're connecting us with the work of your world, while we also have our own world of work to embrace. I'm very grateful for all of you, and for your families who support you, and for God, in whose Grace we all abide. Best wishes for a great New Year to all the Welker clan! Thanks again for enriching our lives, by humbly sharing your own!
