@@naamadossantossilva4736 Yes and no, while I personally only have ever owned MBP's as Apple products which is in my opinion overall far, far better than any PC laptop, Apple is all about the whole feeling, everything(well partly) is in the details, like in this video everything has this quality feel, from how you extend the size of the headband, to how they adjust to your head. This is what Apple most likely do best. And that is what their buyers are after. I guess it's easy to compare to the watch industry where you have wristwatches to around $500 that some feel is excellent product with a high quality feel to it, and then you have Rolex.. But I am not so sure I would in general put Apple at the Rolex in the industry.. Oh and myself I have a few Sony and Sennheiser headphones myself.

To my ears these 3rd Gen Air pods are more comfortable compared to the newer Pro version with the soft gel tips. kzread.infoUgkxgl8SzyQoymMu-S3V55Dskg5QJ8xr1yCR That said, compared to the 3rd Gen, I notice these do not stay planted in the ear as well. One design issue I think, is you squeeze the stem and click it twice to advance your songs. On 3rd gen you tap the large speaker. The difference is by grabbing the stem each time, you tend to loosen the bud fit in your ear. Not always, but the bud falls out a few times while running. The old tap to change never had that problem for me. I would not have changed that tap function. That said, the newer Pro version sticks in the ear, almost airtight if you want that. I do not like that Airtight fit. So that's why I'd stay with this version as the best trade off of comfort, use, and overall feel.

It's way higher of a value to get sony's or senheisers instead of these knock-offs. No warranty on these bad boys, even if they look and act similar to the real deal.

They might be right if you're only considering wireless headphones with all of the features they have. Obviously they can't compete with an old school pair of wired headphones like the Sony MDR7506, but the battery, amplifier, microphones, etc. is the majority of the cost. Converting the MDR7506 into wireless headphones with the same features would cost more than $100.

14:49 - How they sleuthed it: They have a development system for bluetooth (essentially a modified bluetooth radio to provide every packet to a dev machine connected to usb / serial) and just investigated the handshake and identifiers transmitted and replicated that into the bluetooth module for the clones. Apple has a standard way of doing this for airpods, and they used this framework for airpod pros, and the airpod max. So they have a starting point from the airpod clones they've likely made too in the past.

I still have them in a box somewhere. Had to get new headphones though because the plastic railing was absolute garbage and on one side it wouldn't catch anymore.. like, AT ALL.

Ever since RoHS took effect, lead weights have become pretty rare. Most people use a tungsten alloy that has the same density as lead. It could be lead though, it's hard to tell from the video.

It's definitely not tungsten. Tungsten is super expensive. Tungsten also isn't malleable at room temperature. I'd say it could be led. It's most likely a steel alloy, not straight up steel.

Probably zink, but certainly not improbable its actually lead. Zink is reasonably close to density of lead, easily cast, machined and processed (softer than gold), low toxicity, and cheap. One of the cheapest common-use metals these days, along with lead and iron. Could be tin too, tin like zink has many of the same or very close properties as lead (including patina when moderately oxidized), but tin is way closer in hardness to lead. Tin is way more expensive though, but oxidize less easily. Zink is commonly used as a sacrificial anode on marine vessels and equipment, because of its mode of oxidation and corrosion, and it's low cost considering its relatively massive galvanic potential distance from most other metals including most steels. Zink is still ~50% more expensive than lead (per weight, about equal per volume) but tin is 15 times as expensive as lead (per weight). Lead is in a few aspects more costly than it once was, but it's still half the price of mild steel.

In these very small quantities for a high value vs material use product, pricing isn't really that much of a consideration though. There's serious expenditures sunken into making this thing be as it is in most other aspects; it's certainly not a minimum cost production. They'd easily go with tin over zink or lead if that provided some other small process or availability benefit.

@@pr0xZen Pure steel yes, especially if you are using grades like 316 yes. A steel alloy is fractions of pure zink. Steel alloys are mixed with other metals usually made from recycled parts, making them fractions cheaper. Steel has a very weird state of properties depending on how it's forged and what other things are forged with it.. Take damascus steel for example. To this day the original damascus process is lost to time. If you heat steel and quench it in oil it will absorb the carbon. Steel has a very broad set properties.

The amount of shade in this episode makes it at least carbon neutral.

@@mattschwartzstein3159 I can understand but, for me, the APMs clamp too hard on my jaw and end up hurting after a few minutes while my Sennheiser headphones feel much better and get comparable sound. The APMs can be great if they don't put too much clamp pressure on your temples or jaw.

ngl if they put some effort into the driver/sensor tuning and made the housing aluminum instead of plastic, they could easily raise the price to $250 and have a significantly better and closer knock-off

I once got a pair of headphones on a plane that made it sound like the audio was being whispered into the back of your neck, and it was the most unsettling audio experience I've ever had. Well, it was the second most unsettling audio experience I've ever had. So when Linus was like "there's Jakes all around me" I got that. It really makes you feel like you're losing your mind.

Clamping pressure ought to be easily made to be adjustable with the angle auto aligning according to the setting selected.

I like that LTT’s intro music never changes.

I doubt that the original airpods manufacturer is making this knockoff, they probably just leaked/sold the schematics to someone else

I think they are sensing contact between the earpieces when sensing you have taken them off because even when you set them on the table face down they contact one another, as they do when hung around your neck.

I remember when I got a first gen shuffle in the early 2000s, it was production number 12 or something like that. It had "Designed by Apple California Division" or something like that stamped on the back.

Doubtful they are still around, these companies get raided by police often. They are probably sitting in a jail cell somewhere, lol. None of their company sites are up anymore, good indication they got caught.

@@evolicious Not necessarily. It's quite possible the people behind the company work from overseas in China or or whereever. However, it is fairly easy for Apple to take those websites down since the website is most likely registered in US/CAN. I guess the people behind ProMax just sell the same product under a different name.

When the Apple iPad was first released, I waited for a knock off version of it. After some shipping problems, I eventually got it and that's when I learned I should have gotten the real iPad. This fake iPad obviously ran Android OS on it, but the experience using it was bad. It was slow, had a plastic touchscreen which "bounced" when I typed on it, and the battery life sucked. I think it was the first electronic device I just threw away after a month of use (normally I either erase and reinstall the OS on a computer and give it to a family member or sell it). Since then, I never bought a knock off electronic device - I stuck with the major brand names.

I bought a knockoff Apple Pencil and it syncs the same, feels the same, and is even identified in iPadOS the exact same as an authentic Apple Pencil. These companies must be getting access to Apple's tooling and IP.

no, they started wt the mindset for profit by ripping other's product that was built from some heavy investment. They will not innovate they most probably will just reverse engineer and rebrand some stuffs.

@@redcoffeemug7275 Or they attract attention for market share, than will do original stuff. Just sayin' that many companies did exactly tat before. They dont even need to sell this ones, sent for "reviews", but could be a marketing gimmik. ;)

What Linus said about "in-between" products is very true, and same goes for watches. You can buy a fake rolex for $50 and it will be quite shit, but it will sort of look like a rolex. However, if you got and pay $400-500 you will be getting a replica that can quite easily pass of as real.

I've tried fake Airpods Pro too, they really manage to put everything in it, even noise cancellation the only way to tell them apart was that the battery kept increasing and decreasing, also the light on the case was not properly aligned though the light hole was EXACTLY where it should be

I would like to see in next review blind taste where you put the fake ones in real packaging and then review them first without telling linus.
