They Let Me Drive A 2020 Newell P50! (2+ Million Dollar RV 0-60 Test)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Another video from the couple days I spent at the Newell Coach factory in Miami Oklahoma. After Josh Snider gave us the complete tour of this 2020 Newell P50 (in a separate video) we fired this big rig up and took it out for a test drive. This was an awesome experience and definitely some motivation to upgrade my 1996 someday!
Huge thanks to Josh!

Love the Newells and I have not seen one that I didn't like. Actually, on our trip to Alaska in '16 a guy pulled into the RV park we were staying overnight at and it was a '78 and he had just purchased it. We had a tour and some great talk afterwards on what he planned on doing to this coach. Interesting build, I might say! Thanks for sharing the Newell factory tour as well. Kind of reminds me of Foretravel out of TX and their set up! Love the IH45's, but would not hesitate on this Newell! Gotta hit the lottery now for sure! lol

    I’m curious. Your turning radius is determined by the cut of your front axle and your pivot point which is your drive axle. How will the steerable tag make any difference other than not scrubbing the tire. How would that be any different from a rig that lifts the tag or a 2 axle coach of the same length? Is my logic wrong?

  • @Stapleton42

    @Stapleton42

    3 жыл бұрын

    If lifting the tag didn’t make a difference why would it lift? If the steering tag carries a larger load at a tight angle then the drive tires are the scrubbing ones not the pivot ones. It is hard to understand but I’ve seen it work 😂

  • @QargZer

    @QargZer

    3 жыл бұрын

    The same way it makes a difference in a telehandler in 4wheel steering mode. With only the front wheels steering the pivot point is static and the turning radius is large. With the rear wheels also turning the pivot point is not static which reduces the turning radius. If you take a straight edge and pivot it from one end it's a large diameter. If you spin the same straight edge from the middle instead of the edge it reduces the diameter. That is basically what realwheel steering does. It makes the entire thing rotate off the middle instead of the rear wheels because the pivot point changes as the back wheels rotate. It might not be middle in the RV but in a telehandler you can drive in a very tight circle with 4 wheel steering enabled because the pivot point becomes the center instead of the rear wheels.

  • @DLTJR1959

    @DLTJR1959

    The tag axle on my Wanderlodge lifts. You can still scrub the tag a little in tight turns. I would expect the biggest advantage would be non scrubbing of the rears. In theory it should reduce the pivot point of the bus. My 44 foot bus with IFS will turn in a 38 foot turning radius. I would expect the IFS cut angle is the driving force of the turning radius. The video shown of the u-turn is exactly the same as the video of my 06 Wanderlodge taken in 2004 or 2005. The bus is designed to do a u-turn on a divided highway. Newell is a great bus.

    605 hp and it takes that long to go 0-60? Someone needs to check that engine and make sure it’s rated. A 350 hp series 60 and 6 speed Allison with 4.36 weighing 36k does 0-60 on 28 seconds, and that’s only 1,300 pounds of torque. If you have to put that thing on a dyno, and it’s just big and heavy, I would do that, just to know for sure...

    Stapleton42 it’s certainly time for a diet. 60k? I’d have guessed around 50k. I’ve never driven anything with that weight and power rating, the thought has crossed my mind that weight was playing a large roll.
