Van Halen changed my life. I hated my stepfather from the time I met him and tried as hard as I could to make his life a living hell. On December 4th, 1991 all that changed. He checked me out of school early and we went downtown to see a Van Halen concert. On that day we reconciled our differences, and my stepdad became my dad. Love you, Pop!

Fun fact: the US military used this song and some others as musical torture to force Panama’s General Noriega out of the Vatican embassy in 1989. They blasted rock music constantly for three days until he couldn’t take it anymore. “Panama” was played over and over, ad nauseam. He surrendered a few days later.

Can you imagine sparking up a joint up close to the stage? That’s the way concerts were man. Sometimes you’d be watching the show and then, tap tap on your shoulder. I was fortunate enough to see Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 Victory tour in Dallas. VH was also in town for concerts the next few days. Eddie came on stage and played that guitar solo at the concert. It was wild!

See those huge crowds? I was in so many of them. I’ve seen Van Halen live more than any other band and the shows were just that wild. They were notorious bad boys of rock. I was 16 (almost 17) when this song came out. Me and my girls spent the summer driving around blasting this from our speakers. Good times.

If you didn't know...Eddie Van Halen (guitar) and Alex on the drums are brothers. Also Eddie and Alex were born in the Netherlands and are both classically trained pianist. Also in 2012, Eddie was voted #1 of the top 100 guitarist in the world in a poll that Guitar World magazine asked it's readers. Legendary band! Good video brother!

Van Halen (Hay-len) has been around since 1972. This is the original line up with David Lee Roth as lead singer, Alex Van Halen on drums, his little brother Eddie, is the guitar wizard, & Michael Anthony on bass guitar. Early chart topping hits include- Running with the devil, You really got me, Pretty Woman, Jaime's Cryin' (my #1 fave), Unchained, Dance the night away, Jump, Panama (my #2 fave), Hot for Teacher, & Drop Dead Legs. In the mid 80's David lee Roth left VH to be a solo artist (you should check out his versions of - Just a Gigolo & California Girls). Van Halen then recruited Sammy Hagar, a well established rock artist in his own right. They went on to have even bigger hits with - Why can't this be love, Dreams, Love walks in, & many others. Eddie Van Halen has often been touted as one of rock's greatest guitarists. he has collaborated with many other artists, most notably with Michael Jackson. If you want to see him in action, check out his live performance of "Eruption" :-)

I remember Oct ‘81 seeing Van Halen in concert at Tingley Colosseum in Albuquerque & will never forget David Lee Roth swinging across the stage holding a rope in one hand & a half empty bottle of Jack Daniels in the other while belting out A song off Fair Warning which at that point was their most recent album - That was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. Awesome memories. Thanks for helping to go back in time :)

That started getting noticed in the late 70's. This was from the 1980's - Lead Singer David Lee Roth short for (Rothchild) he is from the town I grew up in Bloomington, Indiana. I think I read that his parents had something to do with Indiana University Bloomington is a big college town. The bass guitar player is Micheal Anthony he is from Chicago, Illinois. The Drummer is Alex Van Halen, the lead & Rythem guitar player is Eddie Van Halen, they are brothers Alex is the oldest brother they are from the Netherlands. Van Halen is a Dutch name. They became very big in 1978, and at the time were the highest-paid live band in U.S. history I know because I did a research report paper on the band in middle school at the time because I loved them. Van Halen had gotten signed to a fabulous recording contract around this or me doing my research paper !!!

Van Halen the soundtrack to so much in my life..Born in 1970...I look back and smile, I was a kid in the 70’s, a teen in the 80’s, in my 20’s in the 90’s....what a great time to be alive, anything before 9/11 was great, then the PC ass hats FK’d up all the fun...my motto then was work hard, play hard, and FK hard...lol now I’m 50 with a family, a business, now a respectable person in my area if they could only have seen me in my prime..lol
