Dear Seanie, these people played by those actors are none else than what we call the soul of the nation... heck, as unbelievable for a non russian this may be, many of these peoole didn´t even think of Lennin or Kommunism. They went to fight mostly voluntarly but also conscripted knowing 2 things. many of them will not return... if they will not fight than the whole country will die. what that means ? Do you have mother, grandmother, father grandfather, sisters, young sister or brother or do you know anybody who does ??? I am not russian but Czech... and we were betrayed by our garantor or freedom - USA and by our solid allies and partners GB and France. back in 1938... Hitler well know for his hatred towards Slavs was essentially given control over modern state with modern army... CZECHOSLOVAKIA. NAZI TERROR AND OPRESSION FOLLOWED. If those men played by these actors would have failed, all historical data suggest that Hitler would reach peace with UK and would immediately go for what he planned for us - the SLAVS. Annihilation, Yes complete killing off of all slavs. I wouldn´t be here, nor my family, nor these actors playing those who stopped Hitler. But I go even further... Did you know that certain political circles of power in England and USA, incl. France were actually sympathetic to Hitlers agenda? Historical data speaks clearly ... Did you know about friendship betwen Hitler and H. Ford ? Did you know who was the owner of I.G. Farben ? There are dark moments in history of those who claim to formed the Alliance against Hitler... Many believe that Hitle was "given" Czechoslovakia and was tasked to strangle communism... well there is much to be told and I do not want to speculate... yet one doesn´t have to go far back. look into our slavic history and the history of the ROME/ catholic church... I´m gonna leave this here... God blesses you and may give us peace in our times...

Do you know that the original novel written by the great noble-prized novelist, Mikhail Sholokhov was actually unfinished? So, there is no release date entitled to it only a speculation that he might’ve been working on it in late 50s or early 60s. Being 9 of age when the Great War took place all over, the young Mikhail never forgot what he experienced during that horrific period of time and yet went through a different kind of suffering and that was the loss of his mother who was killed in a bombardment along the Don by the Wehrmacht troops back in 1942 during WW2 which he wrote about and shared with various journals! Till then, Mikhail 🍃💐

The story is good and I always enjoy the old language they spoke. Who says, "Stop lamenting"? Now it's like stop yer bitchin'-lol The use of two names makes things confusing- learning Russian naming conventions is fun for me, but I am just starting. The Patronymic names and birth names... I need practice-lol. TY for the movie!

This is probably the best Russian film ever made. If you follow the history of the Ost Front the events shown here do replicate the fighting at the Don and to Stalingrad. What is depicted also is predictive of how the war was actually being conducted; Stalingrad was the final, not the first of the German hide tide mark. The casualties the Germans were experiencing in the battles shown here made their Armies a shadow presence by 1942. The Russians had near triple the population and substantial resources. Everything changed after the battle of Moscow. The Russians were bleeding the Reich dry so the tide was always going to turn to the West.
