I had bought the assembled kit from Jason a few weeks ago and it works great. So happy to get rid of the clunky molex connector. Time to let those go. BTW, yes, I could have bought the printed parts only as I have all the other bits but, meh, just so convenient and quick to install the pre made set. And, no, I am not going to add myself to the lottery by typing some awesome words as I would like to see the kit go,to someone who needs it. 😊

@@temporarilyoffline Finally got it installed. Thank goodness I watched your video. I originally found out about the mod from K8MRD, but Mike looks to be using another version of the piece, and I just got lost for a bit. You're using the same design I have, and the instructions were spot on. The only thing I had to do that I don't recall you bringing up is that I had to file down the grooves on the sides of the PowerPoles just a teensy bit. They were just a hair not deep enough to fit in the opening. That may be a product of me using knockoff connectors, which work for 95% of things, but tiny details are slightly different.

A guy at our club sent his FT-891 back to Yaesu for a warranty repair but didnt reverse the Power Pole upgrade first, it invalidated his 3 year warranty, remenber to put things back to standard if making a warranty claim.
@temporarilyoffline
2 ай бұрын
At least in the automotive world, manufacturers aren't allowed to deny claims like that. I don't see how having a different "shape" of wire could be a problem, but I don't know why he sent it back... And yaesu usually won't tell you voluntarily what they've fixed.
I usually don’t trust crimps I didn’t make myself… but those look fabulous.

@@temporarilyoffline I was visiting a good friend in Maryland. It was getting dark and we were chatting as I packed the car. He gave me a few 80s era commercial radios, rack mount boat anchors. in the process of making room for them, I took my 7200 (it was in a backpack) out and out it on the ground. Of course, it's starts raining and I have 5+ hour trip home. Say goodbye and I back out. I think i hit his driveway curb... Get a call in the morning the equivalent of "You left your radio numbnut 😁" He dries it out and mails it back. As you can figure, it wasn't the curb. The LDG tuner I kept with was more portable now and in multiple pieces. The 7200, aside from squished feet, was good! Put it on the after buying a new tuner. Still have it but it doesn't get much use now as I opt for portable operating with an 857D (the reason the video caught my attention)

why you prefer this power pole Anderson than stardard Yaesu socket?

I would. The molex connector is good because it has a retention clip where the powerpoles do not... however, my whole shack is powerpoles and this is one less non-power pole setup.

I don't think either of them would void the warranty. I opened the case on mine when it blew an internal fuse and then sent it back later for a warranty issue and they didn't complain. I'm one of those people that believes that you have a right to look inside of your own property - and the MFG also has the right to notice that you really boogered it up badly and refuse a repair... but in this case, the power pole mod is a simple bolt-on/reversible mod and I doubt they would even care.

For some, the hobby is actually 'Anderson Power Poles', and they'd be just as happy wiring-up light bulbs as long as it was with 'Power Pole' connectors. ;-) !!! They're not even that good a connector to be honest. Whoever decided that they'd be the new "standard" (sic) should have their head examined. My worst nightmare would be waking up in a room full of MFJunk all wired up with APP connectors.
