With all her technical skills, I don't think Simone Biles has the artistic elegance of the gymnasts featured in this video. This was much more beautiful to watch. Same thing seems to be happening with figure skating. It's all about the twists, jumps and turns - and the artist dance element seems to have been lost.

Oh yes I remember most of them they were so wonderful to watch, a lot of them now are very heavy legged muscles , these ladies looked wonderful

Bring back artistry, femininity and grace to gymnastics.

I miss the magic! My first Olympics was Mary Lou as a 5 year old. Daniela Silivas, Olga, Nadia, Elena M, and so many others. It was magical, artistic and unique. Now it’s boring thuds and wolf turns. Sigh. I respect the athletes now but boy there was once magic and it’s gone 😢

WOW, you did a magnificent job putting this work of art together. Truly love the side-by-side comparion of Nelli and Nadia in the 76 Olympics! And how you snuck in the early 70's of the fabulous East Germanns. You need at least a million views from all of us "real" OG Gymnastics fans. Who does not miss the mounts on beam and bars, and the real coreography on floor including the back-toback tumbling. Let's see someone do that today on resulite! Nice job.

Missed opportunity to showcase Elena Mukhina, Oksana Omelianchik's FX, BB and UB; Ma Yanhong's UB (81, 82, 84), Wu Jiani's UB and BB, Yang Bo's BB, Kui Yuanyuan's BB, Maxi Gnauk's UB in this collection.

The elegance of Elena Muhkina was amazing! RIP ELENA

I'm missing Teodora Ungureanu.

You should have included Oksana Omelianchik. She put so much grace and beauty in her work.

Floor and beam were so much better back then. Lovely to watch.

Nowadays gymnastics competitions are soooo boring.

Yes, I remember that era. It was great but so is the current era. I can appreciate all levels of gymnastics. The artistry, grace, and power of today's gymnast are amazing!! I get some haven't reached the current standards but they have something to reach for. #LiveInThePresent

requirements have changed since then also some tricks are banned for safety/rhythm of routine reasons like the Korbut/Mukhina flip on uneven bars for ex. also scoring went to open ended after 2006. oh and the Russians/Romanians aren't as dominant as they were from the 50s/1992 though the US did win team All Around Silver in 1984 Bronze at Barcelona in 1992 and won a team all around medal every Olympics cycle since 1992 including 3 Gold 3 Silver and 2 Bronze right the three team all around Gold Medals were Atlanta 1996 London 2012 and Rio 2016 silver in Athens 2004 Beijing 2008 and Tokyo 2020 bronze in Sydney 2000 and Barcelona 1992 the only games in which an American didn't win an individual Apparatus medal was 2000 in Sydney

The bottom line is this - gymnastics then is not the same sport as gymnastics now. Clearly there are enough coaches and gymnasts to fill amazing squads of both retro "classic" AND today's"power" gymnastics. It's akin to the contrast between softball and baseball. Very similar, but completely different.
