I always thought that Arsenal got chose over Tottenham for the first division because they wanted London clubs as it looked better for the league and Tottenham were not part of London until 1965.

It's often overlooked that Spurs weren't a 'London' club until 1965. Although in the conurbation they were actually in Middlesex until the creation of Greater London when Tottenham became part of the newly created London Borough of Harringay.

Tottenham was a local government district in north east Middlesex from 1850 to 1965. So Arsenal have been a part of North-London much longer than Tottenham

This would have been a good video if you didn't skip over the most important fact... Tottenham was never a part of what is considered London until after Arsenal moved north of the river. Arsenal has always been a London club and moved north of the river in 1913 to Highbury from Manor ground, spurs became one in 1965 after joining the London borough of Haringey. Spurs had no "territory" in London because they were never a part of London untin 1965

Technically, back then it was the county of "Middlesex" and the county of "London". Both counties were abolished to join the county of "Greater London". Arsenal were based in the county of "London", which wasn't ever the same as the "City of London" and like I said before, also no longer exists. The areas we call "North London" and "South London" were only informally coined when "Greater London" became a thing. That means that before 1965, neither team was part of "North London" and were in two different counties that no longer exist but were in the same area. This is the reason you don't hear older generations make the "Middlesex" argument, because they lived through this. Presumably the reason this argument wasn't included in this video is because it's invalid and the makers did more research than your typical 15-year-old Arsenal supporter on Twitter.

Spurs aren't from North London either. When they were formed in 1882, Tottenham was part of the county of Middlesex, not the metropolitan County of London. Tottenham didn't become part of London until 1965, by which time arsenal had been long settled in Highbury.

I wonder how many hours of research are in these brilliant 15 minutes of content... Not that I care much about the North London derby but watching this was time very well spent!

I'm an Arsenal supporter and even i have to admit that Sol Campbell really snaked Tottenham, i approve as an Arsenal supporter but as a level headed and fair person, i can clearly see the treachery there. It was bad, personally I'd never do something so low. But hey, I'm not him 🤣

They need to shape up and start competing with the north, London is generally doing shit at moment.. Liverpool taking everything, man city taking the scraps.. We need quality down south or we all just going to end up in the championship along with West Ham

Next season Man City will make a comeback or though in reality they are not even doing that bad... which makes that very thought even harder to handle in comparison to the way spurs, chelsea and arsenal been playing..

Yes. I was waiting for this one, pal! 🤗I'm hoping for a good match but it'll probably be a dull 1-1 draw, which will be just fine for me. Spurs still have to go to the Ethiad and Anfield. A win is far more imperative for them than it is for Arsenal. A loss or a draw pulls 'em straight back into the mix of the top 4 race.

A win is important to Arsenal too because Utd are right behind them. Though I agree that it might be a draw as I think the game will be cagey as neither want to lose (unless a early goal is scored... which would make the game very interesting as if that happens I expect at least one red card. lol)

@@Zauchi Yes, I agree but we haven't won away to a top 6 side in 4 years now so a win is an uphill task but something has to give. The Emirates is sadly a happy hunting ground for United. The game against them after the derby won't be easy

You seem to be missing the fact that when sours were founded white Hart Lane wasn't part of London it was actually middlesex. Tottenham didn't become part of London until 1963 when it became part of the greater London Borough of haringey. Until this time Tottenham was NOT a London club. Arsenal however have always been a London club!!!

Tottenham was a suburb of London when Spurs were formed. Tottenham dates back over a thousand years and was mentioned in the Domesday Book. It's an actual place with a population of 130,000. This is what separates it from Arsenal. There's no such place as Arsenal. It's a factory club. It's currently located in North London, but, like gypsies, sooner or later they'll move somewhere else. We all hope they return one day to Woolwich.

@@robertpeters6996Although its true, Woolwich and the munitions factory that the workers that formed the team came from was part of Kent then (but was incorperated Into London in 1889) the teams home ground was actually Plumstead common in SE18., the Manor ground and the invictus ground in london

Arsenal is not a place. The tube station Gillespie Rd was renamed Arsenal in honour of the great Chapman sdes success but Arsenal is not a place so get your facts right and stop being spursy
