it's really not that confusing i don't know why there's such a fuss about it other than the engagement addicted pundits on twitter. Sneed says he wants to remain in KC... best way to do that in his situation is to price himself out of a trade to stay for a year on the tag. i really doubt it's anything deeper than that. Pay Up or Shut Up is the message he's sending to the other teams.

I'm not worried. Who knows what's really going on with Sneed. What I think is really important is Mr. Veach has plans & is orchestrating this whole process. It's hard, but we really need to give him the chance to gather all the pieces together (including the draft). Look at the job this man has done for the Chiefs over the years (like this month)!

Honestly, a lot of NFL players from humble beginings forget how much money they earn. Hollywood is making up to 11 million dollars this year, and a lot of people don't see that type of money ever. The salary cap means that the billionaires are typically paying about the same amount because the cap means they can only spend so much, and there is a league minimum (89% of the max). One player eating up cap isn't owning billionaires no matter how much you want to pretend it is. Infact, it's just another level of concentrating wealth into the pockets of less people more than it is spreading wealth around.

He has not "earned a bag" yet. He will make more per game this coming year on the tag than he's made his entire career so far to this point.

Old guy here. This back and forth is just verbal jousting, it doesn’t matter. What matters is is VALUE, to the Chiefs, to the other teams, and to himself. If Sneed thinks he deserves the largest bag of money, that’s on him. If the Chiefs believe he is worth a 1st rounder plus a 3rd, and nobody is going to meet that price, then you negotiate or stand firm. It’s my impression that Veach is standing firm on a 1st, or the deal would have been finalized already. I believe that the ideal situation would be to have LaJarius play the season for the Chiefs on the franchise tag, then KC wins SB59 for the historic 3PEAT, Sneed does not get injured, plays a stud season, then signs a monster big mega deal for gobs of CASH with another team, hopefully in the NFC. In this scenario, Sneed gets what he wants, more clout and prestige as the league’s top DB resulting more MOOLA for his next contract, and his 3peat. Imagine that ego boost. In reality of the 25 season, the Chiefs will absolutely NOT be able to afford him with all their other pending free agents. Some other team will. The Chiefs will boast the best defense, DBs and Dline, on their way to the coveted 3 championships in a row. Finally, another team will sign Sneed and pay the money, in hopes of stabilizing their defense. In the end, it’s a cruel business, but that’s the nature of the beast. With the Hollywood Brown signing, Andy’s going to have a freakin field day scheming this speedy guy open! I hope he doesn’t waste him on any gadget plays, save that someone else. But get him open on some 50 or 60 yard bombs. I want MaHomes to throw for that 50 TDs and 5500 yards, breaking ALL records! Can you just imagine the offensive output and a suffocating, stifling defense, with a dominant special teams, highlighted by kicking afficiandos Harrison ButKer and Matt Ariaza. Looking forward to an roster filling draft, and an absolute monster, exciting, and historic ‘24’ season for the Chiefs. HBTC.

The problem is that he risks the Chiefs rescinding the offer and getting cut outright if they cant cover the cap hit from the tag. Fortunately, I think thats why Mahomes restructured, but not sure about next season. We still have several others coming up on contracts soon too. I think its only a matter of time before Sneed is gone, I just dont think its this year.

He could be the absolute best CB in the league this coming season and he's still not getting a contract, in fact that lessens the likelihood he gets one with KC. They cant afford him, its not that they dont want him. He is 100% a cap casualty, it happens. There is zero chance they pay him, Jones and McDuffie all top dollar contracts on defense.

The only interview I saw with Sneed said he wanted to stay, but they were listening to offers. I've never heard anyone official from Kansas City actually say they had any offers or discussions. Just they were willing to listen to offers.

Sneed need to stay on the tag get this ring and make them drop a big bag next season for sure

Chiefs aren’t paying him a bag next year regardless. Spags develops CBs like no other, that’s why they are trying to trade him because McDuffie, Williams, Watson, and Jones are waiting in the wings. Crazy as it seems Chiefs don’t need Sneed for the 3-peat.

This is the only thing i hate about this time of year the absolutely idiotic rumors that keep going back and forth just let it playout and stop guessing and worrying about it.

If Sneed is worthy of being the highest paid CB in the league that should mean he’s also worth more than a 3rd round pick.

Its not one or the other though, a team would have to give up a high pick AND a massive chunk of cap. Not every team can do that. I dont understand how people dont understand this. The draft pick is actually the smaller part that a team has to give up in these cases.

The chiefs aren’t giving sneed a long term deal unless it’s a huge underpay which sneed isn’t doing. Sneed is an older CB who wants top dollar with a couple recurring knee issues. Plus we already have McDuffie who’s even better than him. KC isn’t paying two CBs.

Jones's contract cleared a lot on the cap this year, and Mahomes restructured for another 21.6 mil too. We still have cap space even with Sneeds tag on the books.

Well it's not like anyone has to explain or say anything from their end. We will see what happens when it happens.

This is of course just speculation and hope I'm wrong but if all of the sudden Sneed's agents are fired I guess that would tell us more.

There is no benefit to Sneed to leak information like that when he has been quite clear he wants to stay in KC.

I think the holdup is that teams are willing to give the Chiefs the draft capital they seek, or they will sign Sneed to a high end contract, but they aren't willing to do both.

The holdup with a trade def isn’t because he wants to be the highest paid CB. It’s the draft capital it’s going to take to get it done. If I have to pay sneed 19 a year why would I give your high draft picks. KC willing to let him walk because of Mcduffie and there belief in how great the organization is scouting/ developing players.

At this point I just fully believe Sneed is staying a Chiefs this next season on the franchise tag. Nothing really seems firm that he’s going to leave.

Hill is a radically different situation, he had already gotten a 2nd contract and gotten paid already. Sneed will make more on the tag per game next year than he's made his entire career so far.

I think Adam 's take is realistic and not so much in the others and Sneed wants 20+ million to play elsewhere but very few teams will pay it so Sneed will get the tag amount in KC and might move some players to make it balance the books.

I think Sneed's tag is the reason Mahomes restructured.

It's a confusing mess with all of the things happening, but one thing is true: we can not afford to let him walk in FA. We need to demand a quality 2nd round pick or 1st round pick in a trade OR let him play on the tag OR sign him to a healthy, respectable contract with restructure possibility. Those are the only things that would be worth a deal for Sneed.

Ominehu missing half of the season can work out to be a good thing. I’d play him sparingly until the playoffs. Nothing like a fresh body for the playoffs!!

Nobody wants to give KC any picks in a trade. Can't imagine why not? Sneed wants a lot and with the way Spags runs there's an excellent chance you never get the expected performance from L'Jarius that we've come to enjoy here in KC. The Chiefs are deep enough at the position so it really doesn't make any sense to pay him just to deny his services. With Mahomes publicly stating that he'd like to find the money for CJ and Sneed, I suspect he signs here as soon as Veach sees that the price to keep him isn't going any lower. Along with the bogus information as of late, initially there was a big media splash about all of the teams out there that needed a corner. Where day at?

We are in smokescreen season nearing the draft there is no telling what is true. But also those reporters could've never even known anything.

To be a key part of an NFL three-peat, that is something truly special. In KC Sneed has a chance to be part of something that will be remembered long after his playing career is over. He is young enough to get a big contract after next year, he should try and stay with KC if he can. I say sign a one-year deal with KC or play under the franchise tag. Do what it takes to make this run with the Chiefs and go for a piece of history.

Thanks for the update. Sneed has repeatedly said he wants to stay a Chief. His agents understand the assignment and are making sure their client can go for that historical three-peat. Perhaps the Chiefs do a longer deal with him to lower the cap hit. Let's go!.

I don't think anyone's lying about conversations with Indy. There may not have been formal talks, but almost certainly there's been some form of communication between the clubs. Where there's smoke there's fire. And there's been plenty of smoke. Veach has been transparent about his expectations regarding trade demands. He doesn't have to pick up the phone and repeat it for each potential trade partner. They can make their own evaluations in there own space.

Thou I agree that Sneed is worth a 1st round pick or a combine 2 and 3rd. I would be very happy with a 3rd round and switching 1st round picks if the 1st round was high enogh.

Why the mixed messages? This is speculation, but its likely negotiating tactics: There are three sources of information: the player/agent, the chiefs, and team A. The agent wants people to know there is a pending deal to drive competition to raise the price (most likely leak source). Chiefs may want the same for draft picks. Leaks re pending deal likely comes from either of those camps. Team A wants to downplay their interest to reduce competitive pressures. Reported 'deals in process' could be little more than a price check.

I would be okay with the Chiefs trading 1st round picks with the Colts so we could get a better receiver in the draft, but I'd want that on top of a 3rd round pick - *minimum.*

I wouldn't think 2nd (2024) & 3rd (2025) rd picks would be enough for Sneed when the Colts are picking 15th. Of course, if that's the best they can get, I see the additional holdup other than Sneed's salary asking price. I'm surprised the Eagles aren't interested. Their secondary is statistically horrible and they've barely addressed any of their defensive needs to this point.

I trust C Dot. I'm 90% sure he stays on the tag and plays for the 3 peat on the Chiefs. He makes the pro bowl and 1st or 2nd team all pro and gets the deal he wants next year.

The problem with him becoming the highest paid corner in the league is that teams will be hard to justify that when he was (snubbed) not selected for the Pro Bowl and was the most penalised Corner in the league.

It feels like the Franchise tag situations never play out the same, and I refer solely to the AR era in KC. Houston worked out a deal, Berry held out and had a strange heel injury for two seasons, Ford got traded, Orlando Brown biffed his contract negotiation and played on the tag Now what, have the Chiefs tagged an injured player? If so, we'll never know the full story.

I just think it's hilarious how into this people are ... "We need to be told blah blah blah" ... Is how these types of things happen in the first place. Lol

Things are confusing about Sneed's trade because some of those reporters have "sources" that work in the broom closet.

I think Sneed wants to stay in KC which makes the idea of negotiating a long-term deal of say, 3 years or so, as a way of lowering his cap hit makes a lot of sense to me.

We cant pay him and McDuffie both. McDuffie is the overall better CB. Sneed is absolutely elite, but McDuffie is even better still.

We dont choose his value in a trade, the other team does. And no team is going to pay what we want plus give him the contract he will demand.

3rd round pick for Sneed is a bargain that every team would happily give, but if it's true that Sneed is expecting to be the highest paid Corner in the NFL then it's not at all surprising that no trade is getting done... As a Chiefs fan I'd love Sneed to remain a Chief but clearly they can't pay him anywhere close to what he wants, especially after they just paid Chris Jones who every KC fan will be praying continues to stay healthy and keep up his level of play as he's clearly been KC's most important Defensive player (and the only Defensive player to be part of all 3 SB wins).

If you cutted Mvs they used that for the TE basically, then you get MHB for a cheap one year deal, now you don't have much for Sneed If he wants the most money out of all corners. If you cut Kadarius Toney and sky Moore then sign Sneed and draft a few receivers or even sign some in FA. But you also need enough to sign contracts with all the new picks. You also need some more key pieces on the defense and o-line and The running back room. This is super chaotic with all this Sneed stuff.

I think the Colts are interested but wants to stay closer to the tag. I believe he will be traded but at a lower asking price of a 3rd rounder.

Get out there with Mahomes and run route after route after route. Get that chemistry flowing. Looking forward to seeing Brown on the field. Glad the trade for a 3rd rounder isn't happening. He's worth way more. Could be he's not agreeing to anything the Colts are offering him. So he can stay in KC.

Sneed is an injury concern. Period. His performance in 2023 is a result of Spags, the DB room and DL. I expect HUGE fall off in production next 2 years. This trade was the best possible option the Chiefs could have hoped for. 3rd best move Chiefs made this off season.

How about you suggest a trade of our first, second and fourth picks in exchange for the first pick belonging to the teams owning picks 6-8 so the Chiefs can lock down a starting wide receiver for the next 3 or 4 years? Then, trade Snead for a second round pick and try to upgrade certain players positions. If we can't, keep Sneed and re-sign the needed players to one year deals. If feasible, re-sign Carlos Dunlap. At the earliest appropriate time, extend Marquis Brown for 2 years with a third year option, thus locking down 3 top receivers for Mahomes for the next 3 or 4 years. What do you think?
