Hi, Love your videos, practical and very informative with no fear mongering. 🙏👏 Question: I've heard that Sawyer mini straws sold via Walmart are not of the same quality as those bought at a camping/other stores. And if true, would those sold on Amazon fall into the poorer quality category in your opinion?

After a decade, we have just finished building our stone block- built house. I designed it to be future proof. Electricity is not an essential part of heating, cooking or lighting here. A hoop house polytunnel and large greenhouse will enable us to grow food all year round. (I'm experimenting with that ;). Knowledge is the single most important thing to any prepping project.

I just made 60 day candles with 2 canisters of Great Value 3 lb shortening from Walmart @ $5 each. Bought a 0.5 gallon anchor glass jar for $5 from Walmart and made a giant candle with that and then the leftover went into a large 35.5 Oz glass jar from a bottle of some pickled four bean salad jar. The wicks are from unscented 10” tapered Mainstays candles from Walmart, a pack of 4 for $3. You cut the candles to just above the level of melted shortening after you fill them. I put 3 candles into the large 0.5 gallon glass jar and 1 candle into the skinnier 35.5 Oz glas jar.

Um, the problem is that candles are the reason house fires break out when the power goes... And the power tends to go down in winter months so winter is actually more dangerous statistically when looking at house fires. The power goes and people bring out the candles and neglect them.

Just a heads up coming in 2023 - the government is mandating that you go through a veterinarian to get pet meds. So, for those of us that go to Tractor Supply type places to get meds for our farm animals, that will not be happening as of 2023. You'll have to go to a vet and get a prescription before you'll be allowed to get the meds. We won't be able to doctor our farm animals ourselves with what is over the counter meds right now. Those meds will be prescription only beginning in 2023. Stock up now and get yourself a good relationship with your vet.

From my experience of the war in Ukraine, I can say that even if the goods do not disappear, their price will increase many times And their quality may drop sharply. At best, this means that either you are now buying good quality in a calm environment for a low price, or you are in a panic looking for it for crazy money and it is not known what quality of it. Because you will need it anyway. Thats the conception

I would suggest Novema candles. They are tall chimney type candles that will burn for 9 nights. If the Catholic saint on it bothers you, it’s a thin plastic overlay that you can remove. They are available in Mexican food stores and in the international foods aisles of supermarket. If you don’t want to burn your fingers while lighting them, take a lighter and ignite the end of a piece of dry spaghetti. You can get down inside of it to reach the wick. These give off a lot of light.

Good point. Anything 100 proof or over. The glass bottles of a 1/5th of whiskey or larger make for good water containers as well. Another good container is the 2L-3L glass bottles of wine. I think I've seen 4L bottles of the cheap stuff too. Store in a dark cool place , will last years. Better for a normal beverage than whiskey. Of course the obvious response to this is to grow your own Grapes or Muscadines and then learn , from any number of sources, to make your own wine. From which I'd would agree wholeheartedly

I would add charging cables to this list - such as usb a, b or c . Take a look at all your electrical devices and make sure you have the right cables to charge them from a solar panel, battery bank or whatever power generator/storage system you have. Then - do a test charge to make sure the cable works. Keeping devices running would be useful in a short or long blackout, as boredom might be your biggest problem.

Been prepping since 2001. And live in Florida so the good thing is i always have a fresh rotation of anything that expires and good things to know ishow long something lasts after it expires. A lot of medicines last far beyond expiration. I always keep food and water i store in rotation. Use old and add new. Have enough cases of water to last 90 days. And do the same for ammo. I do a lot of competition shooting to keep the dust off. Its good to practice. Always use the oldest ammo and buy replacement ammo when leaving the range. Always have enough ammo, magazines or shells to load your weapon 6 times. If you shotgun holds 4 then have 24 shells. As for gas or fuel. It goes stale rather quickly so i only fill up containers if a storm is coming or things appear to be heating up in the world. And when the storm passes i dump the fuel in my vehicles

A very good natural pain reliever is Kratom. It is made from a leaf of a tree in south east Asia. 1 tablespoon works wonders for most pain but it doesn’t work on headaches. This will be a great barter item. Another good thing to have would be the ability to make colloidal silver a very good antibiotic that super bugs have no defense against. For $100 you can get everything you need including the silver to make hundreds of gallons of this natural antibiotic. The only thing you’ll have to have is distilled water and you can make your own distilled water.

JR shutting breaker box off is a good idea. We had a car knock a power line down and the neighbor hood was without electricity for quite awhile. I learned I am not adequately prepared for a power outage. I did use my home made rocket stove and boiled water for coffee and a meal of noodles. Yes it did produce a great deal of smoke. Do you have a video telling how to prepare or what is needed for a power outage? I believe with our wind, and snow power outages are likely to be our biggest problem in Billings, MT Any advice would be appreciated.

About canning jars, stock up now! They are going up in price and disappearing at the same time. In the last few months, after the harvest season, I attempted to buy some canning jars for shipping or delivery, but after my orders are placed I keep getting messages that my order items are either out of stock completely or the amount of cases is reduced, like to 1 case instead of 4 I ordered.

It's your money and home so it's up to you what your budget is. Never ignore random deals when you see them. We have an overstock clearance liquidation store here. I haven't been to their big location but I have seen some of the most beautiful random things listed like 2x2 carpet tiles for 3 bucks. That's one cent per square inch. Can't say it is comfortable carpet or what grade it is. However if to have disposable income and storage, would be great buy. People want to have a bug out bushcraft off grid homestead, but no one wants to properly furnish them. Would rather increase their back problems sleeping on hardwood than take the time to shop ahead. Or if you're good at carpentry, great for tiny home/ RV conversions.

Gee, just use a toilet seat. For my camper I use a tall 6 or 7 gallon bucket with a 13 gallon trash bag and a real comfortable wooden toilet seat. You don't want to do the poo straight into the bucket as that makes no sense. Pull the bag out and tie it up. I've never used one more than once but I'm sure you could use it for a day and then bury it as SHTF , there isn't going to be trash pickup. And if SHTF it's not going to be a picnic as some of these channels act like it is. It will literally scare the ..it out of most people.
