Great work, love the angles, subject and light. Really excellent looking results, very cinematic indeed. For a lightweight rig, these seem like a solid choice. That last extra squeezed clip is oozing character for sure, though losing the practicality somewhat!

Beautiful work, thank you Mathieu. These seem an absolute steal for the price, I'm waiting with bated breath for mine to arrive... The 65 in particular looks gorgeous. Its barrel distortion seems more pronounced than the 100 in particular. I might try adding some in post for the 100, but let's see. Hoping the short focus throw is useable, nailing focus on anamorphic T2 can't be a walk in the park ;-) Thanks again for these beautiful examples 👍

Silver flare is not available on their site. Using the Meike PL to E or EF to E with VND/ND/and many more filters gonna be amazing as well! Well priced but not a fan of the 1.5x factor for non-open gate sensors like Sony. It should be great for cameras with open-gate or if you wanna use that extra width for reframing in a cinema standard ratio.

Is it me or do these lenses have a "higher than usual" amount of distortion at the edges. The 100mm was the least obvious but the other 2 really to me felt like everything but dead center was very distorted. The bokeh is not all that soft as well, but as a cinematic vibe it's really excellent. It may just be me but I felt like the Sirui did better when it comes to distortion.

This is typical for anamorphics not cropped to an aspect ratio you’re used to seeing. Crop off the sides to 2.39 and some of that distortion goes away. Use the extreme left and right edges of a Cooke anamorphic on full frame and you’ll see the same thing.

The images with those lenses are very nice for sure. But I must say you must consider the photographer and the use of light. Your model also enhances these image, if I may say. I'm assuming you used the Sony a7 IV for this right? THe crispnes of the camera and the softness of these lenses are a very good combo. I agree with one of the commentators, the chrome. ab. is a bit much, but it only shows in strong light and out of focus, which I don't mind. The slight vignette and edge focus blur help focus the eye to center of the image. The triangle bokeh is interesting. The price point? Outstanding. A good special use lens.

Great review as always! But the lenses are really terrible... that loca and hideous bokeh defeat the purpose of using anamorphic lenses for aesthetics. It just makes the image look cheap, even more than 2x projection adapters, which at least match the old-school cinematic look, even when backfocused. Chromatic aberration is even worse than the vintage glass, can hardly believe it was made that way on purpose... more like poor optical design.

I don't really get the interest in anamorphic lenses. I know they are used in cinema and see that you get 16:9 / 16:10 ratio like images but for me it seems that they produce images that do not cover the entire size of your camera sensor (I guess i'm wrong on this point but i don't understand). So I wonder why not using a FF sensor and crop the image for a 16:9 / 16:10 ratio ? Obviously you lose quality by cropping but you don't seem to use all the sensor with these anamorphic lens so what does it change ?

anamorphic lenses are way more than the aspect ratio. The stretch and distortion of the out of focus areas has a different look than spherical lenses.

The barrel distortion is so distracting. Kind of unusable

No lens is a game changer and films look like a movie because of lighting, set and costume design, not because of a lens.

I’m not sure what is up with manufacturers. I have literally zero interest in any anamorphic lens that’s not 2x

Can you afford a real single focus 2x anamorphic lens ? Because most prosumers can’t

@@MathieuStern to the same extent that any other professional image crafter could/would. let’s not boil my point down to affordability, or snobbery. I just mean I see none of the most important anamorphic features, to me. An anamorphic lens that doesn’t look anamorphic is valueless. Flares and aspect ratios can be got numerous ways. And with modern resolutions just cropping looks fine to me. But the stretch, smear, and bokeh that I’m searching for when I want anamorphic - I don’t see it

you cant understand manufactures because YOU have zero interest? Who do you think you are? lol. No disrespect but you don't represent all of us. You are entitled to your opinion though. Just want to make sure you know its just your opinion. The demand is there and has been there which is why so many manufactures are making them. Maybe you are out of the loop in terms of knowing the interest of the general public?

Those lenses seem cool, but they have a tone of chromatic aberration, don't they?
