Emmie is back with another episode and today we take on as many mechanics as possible. Our goal is set. By March 15th, 2024, Emmie will be grand champ. Maybe we can do it earlier? Who knows. There's lots to learn in Rocket League but fortunately, we don't need to master everything. Good mechanics and a solid play style can carry us to victory. But first we need to get better at kickoffs, dribbling, wall shots and fake challenging, among other things.
If you'd like to watch Emmie play live, she streams every day at this link:

1 month later and nothing. I find it very strange how anybody could possibly think this chick could even be carried to GC, let alone EARN it herself. Not in a million years. She is naturally bad at being coordinated. You can tell. Not only that, but she has no instinct whatsoever, let alone an aggressive one that you actually need to consistently play this game well...

One massive thing with the dribbling on top of the car; starting with no boost used. It's how I learned, and I noticed a huge improvement from it, understanding there's a controllable "no boost dribble speed"

You need to tell her to powerslide on almost every landing, also a good way to teach her dribbling is to deprive her of boost.

  • @froqwo4851

    @froqwo4851

    11 ай бұрын

@@GoBlueHTB You have to learn to do it without boost, you are probably dribbling by picking up the ball from stationary and then boosting to keep up with it (this is what most beginners think they should do), but you want to tap the ball so it is rolling and then match it's speed to pick it up from the side by turning into the ball, however you can also do it from stationary kickoff and put it straight on your car then boost until the ball gets to the back part of your car then stop boosting and control from there (or you could just use the freeplay feature that puts the ball on top of your car). Also as @Joelcoll4034 said you should practice in slo-mo if you can't do it. Hope this helps!

This is my favourite rl channel at the moment. My biggest tip by watching tutorials and other rl videos is do not go where the ball is, go there where ball is going next. I don't have very good mechanics, but in most game modes I'm high diamond or low champ. when you know where you need to be on the field helps your team a lot more than fancy mechanics.

One thing that helped me make a lot of progress in dribbling is to go into freeplay and spawn the ball on top of your car so it stays there without moving (works if you dont move from the back left/right kickoff spawn). That helped me figure out where the car's center of mass was, which is unintuitively further back than I originally thought.

Hey CBell, 2 things that help people learn dribbling quickly are: 1. Try to keep the ball on one side of your roof. With left or right. When it crosses the mid point is bounces which throws off people who are learning. 2. Try dribbling using only the boost button, not the gas. Then try using only gas once you have the boost down. It simplifies the process.

When I was in Diamond I struggled with dribbling a ton. What immediately helped me within just a couple days was Dribble Challenge #2 workshop map. Struggling to pass just the first 3 or so levels and doing that for a couple hours a day. Within a week it became incredibly easy to control the ball on the field, made me so much better than my then current competitors, and is now one of the strongest parts of my game(I'm GC1 now). Workshop maps ftw!

I mentioned this once before, but I think my favorite custom map other than rings is Hornets Nest. If she learned the basics this map will incredibly boost her car control. It forces everything from landing on walls, power slide control, possibly rear-view camera, and just having control of her car so much. I think that if she learns the basics in free play then practicing this map would definitely force her to play in a way where she has to learn car control to pass the levels. I think Emmie should definitely give it a try!!

A great tip I learned when dribbling is to try to tap brake as least as possible. It's usually the reason why most people can't keep the ball on their car because it keeps rolling in front of it and you need to use boost to keep it up if you brake too often. You just have to release the gas button and it can save you boost and make it better for a flick. Hope it helps !

It really is true that you don't need mechanics to get through the lower ranks but it definitely helps massively with ranking up faster

as a tip on how I learned to dribble recently: I went to free play and put the game speed with bukkes-mod to 0.5 and with the command to put the ball on the car, I just tried it. I looked at the circle and drove everywhere on the field. When I thought that it became easier, I put the game speed to 0.6 and tried it again till I was at 1.0. That's the way that worked best for me. I'm now able to use it in games and I found out that at 1.0 if u wanna go faster with the ball it's best when your back-wheels are between the two circles because the ball is then going nowhere :D oh and try to do it without boost first, trust me... (sorry for my bad english)

Hey Cbell, I was quite intrigued with this series from the first video. I spent a lot of time on Rocket League coaching players even going as far back as late 2015. Watching YT tutorial/advice videos has always left me feeling like the teaching is pretty lackluster and omits details or just doesn't understand what is going on. I have not felt that way on this series with Emmie at all. The advice has been pretty high quality quite consistent throughout. Last video you mentioned that you weren't really sure what Emmie was doing wrong, while also simultaneously being impressed with her positioning. I watched those videos but I also stopped by her stream today so I watched her queue mainly ranked 2s. As you said, there's always a million things you can say to give info. There are a few that stand out to me. 1. While her positioning when away from the ball is pretty good, she doesn't like to leave the ball, and loves to stay near it way too much. If she goes to hit the ball, the opponent gets control, her instinct is to stay close to the ball and wait to interject, often in ways that the teammate isn't ready for. Really, it's an issue of rotation. It's a large amount of ball-side rotation. I normally don't like to focus on "rotate backpost" as a tip because it's something that isn't really followed. However, Emmie does it too much and considering her reads and consistency, is a huge detriment to her play. A GC3 gets away with it because they can read and consistently deal with situations where they rotate ball-side, so "rotate backpost" won't mean anything. 2. This was sorta seen in a couple of the videos, but she goes to challenge a lot. You brought up the fake challenge as a skill which I'm very happy you did. However, in half to most of the situations a fake challenge isn't that applicable. She just tends to read the play late and thus goes late. The opponents beat her to the ball, and the ball goes past her leaving the teammate to deal with the situation. She's pretty much throwing away opportunities she can go. A large part of it is hesitating, which isn't unique to her by a longshot and is a common occurrence from lower ranked players. Another large part is not realizing when she there's opportunities which comes with reading the play better. Of course, reading can't be taught since that's the brain being good at pattern recognition. 3. She struggles with ball control quite a bit. Constantly getting touches that she isn't ready to deal with and easily flustered in situations of slight awkwardness. Some advice I would currently give her to assist with those issues: 1. Teach her the concept of rotating through mid away from the ball, surpassing about 1/3rd or 1/2 of the field away (horizontally) in order to reposition to a better spot later. This also sends a clear signal for her teammate to go and she's not tripping over them as much. She doesn't need to do it every time, but much more often. Players are always the most comfortable with the play in front of them rather than to the side or behind them, so by sending her off the play through mid allows her to grab pads (another issue but not hugely important right now) and let the play come to her instead of fighting for the ball. It also will allow her to play "faster" for your next video, because you can't play fast being always next to the ball. 2. You touched on this a bit in the video (you may have done more off-camera), but focusing on the cars rather than the ball at most times except immediately after the ball is hit to read the ball itself. A lot of it comes from her being surprised by what the other cars are capable of. I think this should be a primary focus as she's reaching the point where her reads are behind her peers while she excels at other things like readiness as second. The fake challenge was good to bring up, but there are other options like rotating off and letting the teammate get, waiting for the ball to be hit by them to go after, and even ignoring the ball and going for a demo. 3. When you think of car/ball control being a problem, you typically see people going after things like air dribbles, ground dribbles with ball on the roof, flicks, aerials, etc etc. However, there are baseline mechanics that all the pros use that are near invisible that are the complete core of Rocket League, and ones I think she would benefit from being taught more explicitly on. No, I'm not talking about half-flip (that was already covered, I think) or wavedash. Pure barebones techniques: "Grounding" the ball via catching it Grounding the ball via hitting the middle or underside when the ball has falling momentum "Lobbing"/"chipping" the ball (rolling on the ground) "Popping" the ball up with a double jump when directly underneath "Half volley" (power off a bounce) Dodge power hits (primarily with front bumper) Powerslide turns (really opens up the game with proper powersliding) Dodge into supersonic (boost to X speed, then frontflip to supersonic). Some point of contention I have with advice you gave is actually the kickoff. It's good you're teaching her to flip on kickoff, but I think it's wrong to focus on the high level movement of accurately diagonally flipping to the ball. Using the car steering and instead just using a front-flip is far more consistent for lower ranked players. Diagonal flipping isn't that much better on kickoff unless you implement some sort of flip cancel (which you're instinctively doing due to speedflip). Anyway, hopefully info from this comment helps you, the series, and/or Emmie (preferably all 3!). If you'd like more of my perspective, my user on Discord is the same as here. I'll continue to watch the series as it is quite enjoyable and high quality, and you've done a very good job. The fact that someone told Emmie she was unteachable pisses me off. That's just a sign of being bad at teaching or understanding of the game to properly teach it. Yeah, it may be a bit more of a process to teach Emmie, but far from unteachable. She literally has the aptitude to improve and evidently is doing so. She listens to advice. The only ones that are unteachable are those who refuse to listen to advice. Coached some individuals who expected me to magically fix them but they put zero effort forward themselves, or ignored advice.

Honestly, I didn’t have very good control below champ. What helped me most was definitely learning awkward backwards saves and basically the three most important types of defense. It would many time’s, leave open nets or 1v2’s due to lower ranks committing a lot and “ballchasing”.

One of the most important skills for dribbling is speed regulation. Which isn't just boost management. A big part is trigger discipline. not holding your trigger all the way down and using micro adjustments to regulate speed on a smaller scale.

A fun way to practise dribbles is custom maps. I'd recommend 'Noob Dribble' to start with as it allows you to mess up a little. If that goes well you can try 'The Path' which is more difficult as it doesn't allow u to drop the ball off your head

What’s helping me learn to dribble is you just CANNOT use the breaks. Obvi in gane this is diff but while training try with 0 brakes and 0 boost, if your going too fast let off gas, going to slow give it gas, really helped me learn to keep the ball up

To be honest I only just hit diamond 1 and probably won’t have it for long, but it’s nice to see someone on my rank with slightly worse mechanics than me at the start and slowly get much better than me ❤

Okay honestly with the fake challenge thing, I think fake jumps are just as good if not better, anytime I see a ball floating up I want to go for but I’ll it’s risky. Just tap the jump button and you can watch the panic happen 🤣 it’s magical

a tip i can add to the ground dribbling is try not to use your brake when your ahead of the ball. just take your finger off the accelerator for a sec and you should just slow down to be perfectly under the ball and then you have control of it. and just keep feather the accelerator if need be

Dude, your muscle memory thing is SOO on point. Last night my 8 yo was doing jumping Jack's with our neighbor BUT she didn't spread her legs when her arms went up. I tried to replicate it so the neighbor could see and couldn't because my muscle memory just MAKES me do jumping Jack's right. It was kinda annoying.

I was stuck in high plat low diamond but after playing other modes like dropshot it made me a lot better at air control of my car and faster ariels in general. So maybe try other game modes to keep that "fun" factor and to help with mechanics you don't need in regular gameplay
