Agreed on all points here. Wearing classics with a bit of edge is more youthful. I was in Paris recently and saw a woman in her late 60s to early 70s. She was wearing a black blazer with slim fit striped tee, dark slim jeans with a bit of ankle showing, and a pair of Golden Goose Francy in Black. I remember thinking to myself, this is how you do your 60s. She did not give up

Thank you so much for your sweet comment. My intention is to inform and keep it light and fun:). So happy you are here!
Lol “let’s just wear sleeves” 😂😂😂😂😂 sooooooooo great !!!!!
I agree with a lot of what you say, but I think a lot of these styles will work if the colors and patterns aren’t so crazy. Perhaps show a ‘do’ next to a ‘don’t’ to help women.
Thanks for this so amusing video, Nada! I had to laugh out loud, because I am so guilty of many items you showed and was always wondering why I don‘t really look good in them. This was an eye-opener for me. I will do a huge decluttering in the next days. Greetings with a big smile from Austria 😊
I am 100% with you! I am 71 and would not be seen dead in any of these ugly things😁😁
I really enjoy your videos. I am not sure why people get offended. If you don’t like the content or don’t agree, just move along! I cleaned out my closet this weekend and after watching several of your videos I was able to rid my closet of many items I used to love but no longer fit my style or look good!
"I can't say anything nice about this piece... I don't know why it exists" was my favorite existential crisis comment of the video!!!
For Kelly, on the other hand, we learn so much about a person by the way they critique others.
I’m dying! It was so nice of you not to point out the fallopian tube print on the 2nd handkerchief hem tunic. Omg, I cannot unsee it! I am 61 - technically an old lady - and don’t find the term insulting at all. I am proud of my age!

Nada, I LOVE your sense of humor...on how you describe the pieces...makes me laugh, makes my day!!
Yes! Do a Modern Classics video!
Maybe I am over sensitive but I do cringe at the phrase 'old lady' clothes. I'm in my 70s so in the later stage of my life and I feel using 'old lady' in this way denigrates my age group.

You are NOT old. The clothes are. Old lady in this case has nothing to do with age and everything to do with a frump factor. It describes the clothes, not us. :)

@NadaManley

@@pappyone6062 yes that could work but there are frumpy clothes for women of all ages. I’m looking for a term for frumpy clothes that target women over 50.
@pappyone6062
Жыл бұрын
@@NadaManley I was commenting that because it made the lady above feel bad about the term. I do find that frumpy clothing in general is “aging” in a way but I think that’s because it’s just not attractive and people just think in those terms. I don’t think people necessarily want to look younger. I think they want to look current and not dated. Like you said, more modern. I’d hate for people who are older to think they need to look younger in order to look good since it’s just not true. I’m still only 54 and petite and fit and hope to stay that way forever, but I hope that when I’m 70 I don’t feel bad because I dont look younger anymore.
@Katrn30

I think a better term would be “matronly” or “stodgy”…those of us who are a certain age want to look current and stylish, but it doesn’t mean our age should be denigrated. That being said I don’t think Nada is putting anyone down.
I'm watching this before I go through my closets. I have learned A LOT!!! Thanks!
What fascinating to me is Lands' End --- definitely hit or miss for older gals, but considered better than sliced bread by many in that category!
This is great. Can you address modern cover up styles for those who don’t like to show their arms?
@SIMARSONG

Yes! jean jackets are usually suggested, but many of us live in areas where it is over 90+ degrees, and it's just not bearable.
So helpful! I recently did a major closet clean out and need to go back and let go of a few more pieces that I wasn’t sure about. Your comments made me realize that some that once were trendy have reached their “expiration date” even though where I live you see those styles everywhere. I am having a harder time seeing what a flattering and comfortable modern silhouette for mature women is.

If something is out of style, wait 10 more years and they will be in again. My doctor prescribed meds in the early to mid 1990s that caused me to gain weight. I lost weight about 2 years ago and pulled a couple boxes out of storage. I pulled out wide leg pleated trousers, midi skirts, oversized blazers, and nice basic blouses and sweaters. Score!
😂'It's making me angry!' Lol😍

I absolutely LOVED this video! I found myself either cringing because when working I wore many of the dresses (ala affordable Ross) or simply laughing out loud. Hiding my soft voluptuous body parts was always my MO. Since retired I’ve rid my wardrobe of nearly all of the items you mentioned and now need to go back and do an edit of my (aka your mom’s) 3 boleros worn for the smoke and mirrors purpose of hiding my upper arms. I’m now primarily wearing tonal looks as well as classic outfits but I do have a few above the knee tropical dresses commonly worn where I live. You offer great practical tips and I’m glad I found your channel!

You make me laugh. I’m glad I found you. I literally have a white bolero sitting on my purgatory rack in my closet. I was hanging onto it in case it came back…just been cleaning out my closet and going to add it to my pile to donate. Also had one of those tie up cover ups (with a matching top!) but I knew enough to get rid of it…very helpful.

I have really strong opinions about clothes lol!
Had to laugh at some of the items. I do recognise some of the styles and some ladies I know are still wearing them. The diagonal layers were a passing fancy. I’m learning heaps about WHY I instinctively didn’t like certain styles and refused to buy them - cold shoulder tops, flowing swing tops. We enjoy your videos and laugh a lot. I hope you have fun doing them.
Excellent video. Thank you!
Love your candor!
This was so great! Luckily I only had one questionable top and a couple of those crop sweaters to wear with sleeveless dresses. I’m 70 for reference, love your energy and tips!
Not a single thing you showed should have ever been sewn together and mass-produced for anyone!!! 😂 Maybe the tie-up top could be replaced with a ballet wrap? I totally get your "old lady" reference, too! No one wants to look like the quintessential 'old lady'. I'd prefer to be described as 'well-seasoned' 🤣
Oh my goodness! I kind of have no words for all of these outfits. But laughed myself silly at your "shower curtain" comment. These are truly in stores and on websites now? Being on the short end of petite I have always gone for "less is more" style, so have noe of these looks to purge. Whew!
I find it interesting that other “ influencers” contradict what you are saying! I guess it really amounts to personal taste!
@NadaManley
Жыл бұрын
In many ways you are right. That’s why I think it’s important to find someone who’s philosophy towards style makes sense to you. My opinions are definitely not for everybody. I really do not consider myself an influencer however that might account for my different perspective. I have been a personal stylist and a fashion editor over the course of my career. So I’m really looking at things like flattery and proportions in a different way. I also write trend reports that are used by other stylists, and I watch the runway shows myself so I can get that information first hand. So I try to combine my experience as a personal stylist, and my background talking about trends and reporting about trends in these videos. I hope that helps just to see where I’m coming from… other people are going to have their own lens that they see style through.

Those cut out "cold shoulder" tops are my pet peeve .. trying to "show some skin" without showing any wrinkly old skin.
😂😂😂. Funny 😂 but good information to know.
I love boleros. They look great on me. I cringe watch videos that say that things make you look older. I’m only 34, but I will dress for my body and my style, and never worry if something “ages” me. And a curved hem can be so flattering, but the top that was shows as the example was just ugly and the hem was in an awkward spot. I guarantee that curves hem shirts are going to come back soon, since lower rise pants are coming back, and therefore less tucking of our shirts.

You are so funny. I love how much you hate some of these clothes. Also, not wrong.
Most people dont wear their clothes out any more! They just get sick of wearing the same clothes. Oh no! My favorite top that looks amazing on me has a metal bar detail at the neck!!!! All those layered dresses that you think are all old lady are in most plus sized catalogues!! Look at a Romans, Woman within, etc!! Those little jacket sweaters are called shrugs! As a plus sized woman of 74--its very hard to find plus sizes that arent ridiculous. A lot of baby doll tops, shark tooth bottomed tops, the swing tops and tanks, and wild prints!! I think the designers think that if you put a wild busy print on a fat woman--youll be so focused on the print, you wont notice how big she is!! Instead she looks bigger and calls attention to herself. I dont know why designers think that if your fat you have no taste! Im on a weight loss journey since May of 2023 and ive lost 36lbs. Im hoping to lose at least 40 more pounds in 2024 and then I'll be a "normal" size!
I have never seen a swing T that is funny! It looks sloppy too! Haha 😂
