Tokyo Mirage Sessions, one side quest involves helping one of the characters Maiko recover after she got absolutely plastered drunk. And no this and all of the other references to alcohol was left completely untouched in the English version.

It is incredible that there is no type of alcohol restriction in Nintendo games, at least tell me that tobacco is also restricted in those games, even to characters who are very young

Alcohol has less of a stigma compared to tobacco, since drinking is far more common than smoking.

Some of these are completely fine. Alcohol exists, the Mario quiz cards for example are literal trivia about cooking and history. And the Mario picross one is fine, drawing a glass of a beverage of any sort is no problem.

1: F-Zero GX is a Teen-rated game, so I can see references to alcohol being mentioned in it. 2: The Mix ability icon tends to be rather subtle in most cases. 3: The Chateau Romani could just be top quality milk, but since not just anyone can buy that kind of drink, it does suggest that it contains an extra chemical (which would explain why Link gains an infinite magic meter upon consuming it). In fact, Gorman's behavior further suggests that the Chateau Romani is not the kind of drink to be consuming in a reckless manner. 4: Champagne consumption is censored outside of Japan. Think about the target audience here. 6: Replaced the mug with what's called "insanity bombs" outside of Japan. 8: Outside of Japan, Soda Popinski drinks sodas for his strength. But in the Wii version's Title Defense mode, he gains access to an energy-boosting elixir, which enhances his power and speed (at the expense of making himself more vulnerable to counterattacks with each failed attempt to hit Little Mac). It should also be noted that the elixir eventually turns Soda Popinski red when too much of it is consumed (a sign that it's very dangerous for the human body to take). 10: Link couldn't get the Noble Pursuit in Breath of the Wild (due to being a teen), but he can in Tears of the Kingdom, which is a strong indicator that he's officially an adult in the latter game. 12: When a trophy strongly resembles a wine glass.

You see though, Dragon Quest is allowed to have mature content in that franchise, it's not a Nintendo owned franchise. It belongs to Square Enix (and the character design is done by Dragonball creator Akira Toriyama) and therefore, is not censored unless Nintendo forces them to. Nowadays though, Nintendo isn't nearly as strict with censorship by non-Nintendo game dev companies, as they were in the past.

It's more mature, but Fire Emblem is still a Nintendo-owned franchise. One of the very few franchises of Nintendo, that the devs are not heavily restricted of using any mature content in them.

As for the Milk Bar in Majorca’s Mask. That doesn’t surprise me that there would be alcohol in the Romani. There are Milk Kolch and and Milk Stouts that do exist in some breweries

Remember, that was back when anything on a Nintendo-made console, of localized games, had to be censored to be more family friendly, regardless of who truly owns the rights to the franchise. In the Switch era, they typically don't force 3rd party developers to censor their games.

Chuckola cola is in both superstar saga and paper mario because those series are actually in the same universe

Uh, I don't think I can believe you of Mario & Luigi, and Paper Mario, being in the same universe. Paper Jam clearly shows that Mario and Paper Mario, are two different living beings, as they both are existing at the same time in the same world. And I doubt there's any time traveling to make that happen. I don't even need to play the game to find that out. We can't use the Partners in Time time travel excuse why two different Marios can exist at the same time. Any references to the Mario & Luigi RPG series in Paper Mario games, is moreso there as a nice reference for those who have played games from both RPG series of Mario. I have this feeling, that the "connection" between Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi RPG games, is that everything that happens in Paper Mario games, all happen in a book series that characters from the main Mario universe canon, can find at a book store or something. That includes Mario & Luigi RPGs as main Mario canon. Of course, this is just me guessing from what info of games I have played, has presented to the player

Referencing alcohol isn't going to make a child run to the nearest off-license or pub and down ten pints. Personally I appreciate these kinds of small touches. Makes the world feel that bit more rounded and that it isn't completely sanitised, you know? 🙂
