@@Mirsab Learning student here…its pronounced similar to “yin” but to some it might sound like “win”. The 1950s standards of Pinyin (romanization of Mandarin characters to Roman characters) is the reason why we see the romanization look like yun but pronounced like yin/win. Zhi is pronounced with a third tone and yun is pronounced with a second tone. Zhi sounds deep at first and then rises when you say yun. Zhi is harder to pronounce than the yun. @Zhiyun-Tech can correct me if I’m completely wrong lol

Gerald, awesome review. I recently moved to SE Asia for a way too complicated project and lighting choices were becoming a bit of a challenge. Small and portable, minimal output, big and reliable with big transport costs. These are perfect for shooting in workshops and creation spaces. And you’ve also been upfront about issues, which, frankly after 40 years of dealing with often rubbish offerings from some very big names, this newcomer to lighting is a solid offering.

Two of each of these plus some Aputure MCs and you have a whole lighting setup that fits in a Peli 1510 with room to spare for batteries. Also the 60W has a great industrial design, so you could actually use them for a permanent setup.

I have another version of this same light, the rectangular flat version and love the light with the exception of one thing. The frame grate piece that covers the cooling fan is not structurally stiff enough which means when you grab the light, the frame depresses and contacts the fan. Not a deal breaker but you have to be careful when handling it.

I'm glad to see somebody finally make use of a spectrophotometer in light reviews! It would be very helpful if we could see R9 values in addition to the CRI(a) metric, as the latter excludes all swatches above R8. The R9 to R15 swatches are absolutely critical for skintone and deep blue rendering.

Holy moly these are the perfect lights for the projects I do. I currently have some Inexpensive Godox 60w lights that are gigantic and such awkward shapes. I could probably fit at least 8 of these in the space of one of just my clunky lights... not that I could afford 8 of them. I mean there's a reason I am using those cheap lights. Unfortunately, my one stopped working after 20 mins at 100 watts and never got back to life. The display is on but the light is not. It was not hot when this happened. I thought it might be an overheating protection or something but is not. I am now returning this to amazon and will give it another try. Hopefully next time everything is great. The fact that this 60w lights is so much smaller than everything else and it can be powered with type C and small 60-100w GaN power brick (which I take with me anyway to power laptop and charge other devices) is simply amazing. Great review! I actually just picked up the new Amaran 60x-S with the new double blue LED and it reminds me a lot of the little 60W here. What I must say though is that the new double blue LED gives me a measured SSId of 87 for daylight which is incredible, as well as zero G/M tint, plus the Kelvin values were very close to accurate to the displayed value (I used the same C-800 you have to measure it all). If Zhiyun can make their next light version with the same double blue LED chip, that 100W version has a fantastic design I'd love to use (very shallow Z-depth means easy packing in a carry bag). Add in a DTAP adapter in the box and it'd sell like hotcakes! Cheers, Paul :)

I have custom lighting and ask them which modes they prefer (including off) as I can control them. I guess it's just not being educated, as all they can see is 'setting the mood' and don't take into consideration how much it effects video. That also includes venue staff turning off lights (or dimming they dramatically). I try to teach any DJ's that they need to work with other vendors, make sure they're in the know of what's coming up. Just be pleasent. I also try and tell other video/photographers to not be too polite and educate DJs. I wish someone was brutally honest and educated me when I first started. They _are_ cute haha, and if I just hadn't ordered a heavily discounted pair of Intellitech Pocket Cannon Mini's, I'd go for the 60W one. Great review as usual!

nice review, thx. I'm mostly just disappointed that the power cord was blue and not purple. ;)

A pair of those 60w units with the small octo would be perfect for a streaming setup. The light quality looks so much better than from the GVM panels I use today with jerry rigged diffusion as appropriate sized softboxes would be too big in my space.

A pair of those from their Amazon store will run you $400+tax, which is honestly not bad for what you're getting.

I agree about the panel lights - I'm replacing 2 Godox panels with this Modus G60

Man I really hope Aputure is working on something like this. I have so many other lights from them that connect to their app that I don't want to switch brands. But I absolutely will if they don't have something by the end of the year.

They look cool and are pretty tiny, but very expensive too, if you consider the price of the amaran 60d/60x, which are pretty compact as well...

Hey Gerald, very good test of the G60 and X100. I'm considering buying a couple of G60, because I have lights "without not to mention brands" they are big, heavy and that what I work music videos and events these lights would make my job easier, my back, my cases and my car will not suffer anymore😂 Thank you master sensei and zhyun-tech. Cheers
