Sir. I really dig your stuff. I don't shoot video but find myself continuing to watch even though stills is my jam. Love the aesthetic. Love the energy. Keep it up. FYI: I shoot Sony a7IV and Fuji X100V.

A hot tip for doing handheld moves and pulling crash zooms: start in the uncomfortable position and end in the stable position. Sounds kinda weird, but my mentor taught me to wind up or get your hand position so where you end is comfortable and stable. Easy mental check to get the most stability !

I was heavily considering the MKs vs the Catta Aces vs these. I agree, out of the 3, the MKs have the best feel image-wise. The difficult part was already mentioned: they aren’t FF. What did I decide to go with in the end? Nisi Athena Primes 😂

The fact that these are less than a grand more than their photography counterparts is insane. Even just a few years ago cine zooms were tens of thousands of dollars

Those cine zooms you are talking about still cost 10s of thousands. It's great there are budget friendly options for filmmakers but keep in mind that most filmmakers rent their cine lenses vs buying. This gives them more options to craft a specific look for each project. Unless you have a good use case and can make your money back quickly, renting is still the way to go. Price is also dependent on where you live because a set of these still cost 10k plus taxes in my country.

Hey! I was super excited to see you using the L3 Tuner on the Ranger lenses but there was only 1 shot of this combo, do you have any more samale footage of this? I am about to get me the same set but havent seen any footage of this yet. I imagine it would be super practical having versatile zoom with an option to add it more character. Please tell me how can I see more of Ranger+L3 (or L2) :)

Also - rumor has it that laowa is doing an anamorphic zoom. And it’s confirmed that it’s not a “ranger” in the leaks.

These look absolutely cinematic and I’ve never thought that a ,,zoom“ would make it so much more ,,movie“ like - at least to me that’s somehow the missing piece in my footage. I just don’t get how the adapters work and what you actually need to make it work but I’ll figure it out

Maybe my coverage was too simple, but they are in fact that simple! If you pair the adapter with the zooms, you literally just screw it on! If you use it with other lenses with a different front thread size you’ll just need a step up ring!

For a super budget-friendly option, the Tamron SP 24-70 f/2.8 VC G2 for Canon EF is parfocal, or at least my copy is. Not to mention, it has really excellent image stabilization! You can get one for like 600 bucks used these days. It even has some decent character just because it's an older budget optic. A little softer than the canon equivalent, but I consider that a benefit.

Hey Cam! Yeah, I was using it on the bmpcc 6k so AF wasn't really an option lol it's kind of a hidden gem of a lens! Christopher frost has an old review on it where he shows it's parfocal. It does focus breathe pretty bad is the only real downside@@cammackey​

​@@cammackeyit seems there are quite a few photos lenses that turn "parfocal" when you adapt to MFT. I'm running a ZCam S6 with MFT mount. With the Viltrox Speedbooster I can get the Sigma 18 35 and Canon 24 105 parfocal. Now there are some caveats. Definitely focus breathing still present. The big one seems to be they are parfocal as long as you focus on the long end and then zoom out. If you try to focus on the short end and then zoom in, it typically doesn't maintain focus. So really it's more of a hack than true parfocal.

For the Broke Bros, I use a Canon FD 35-105 3.5f, with Macro. You can do Par focal zoom. The trick is to Zoom into 105 adjust your focus, and zoom out to 35, It will keep that focus or very close to it. But you can't do 35 zoom in to 105 it won't hold focus. I have it adapted to my Sony.

I have this lens too and I find it too inconsistent to use. And the front element spins so if you’re using any VND you’ll get a spinning polarization effect

@@cammackey your right, I totally forget about that. I don't use an ND, cause I literally make sure 3.5 or 4.5 gives me that Perfect 1.7+ on my A7S3 exposure. And I just zoom out and reverse it in post, looks like I zoomed in with perfect focus. I also use Empty roll of gaff tape in front of the Lens and gaff taped together to eliminate crazy flares. It's crazy when people see me take this lens out with what looks like the Roll of a Toilet Paper stuck on the front lens. Lol, it works though.
