These K-Beauty Brands are on Their Deathbeds...

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I always find it interesting to see the trends of beauty brands and where they're headed... let's just say I don't have a lot of confidence in these k-beauty brands.

One that I noticed disappeared for a bit and then magically reappeared was Goodal. I just recently realized they repackaged and now provide different products. I haven't used their stuff in years!

I was under the impression that Pony sold Pony Effect at some point quietly. I remember realising it a few years ago. Last I checked she had her own brand called Bitti or something. But I think you meant to say Mandela Effect, not Barbra Streisand Effect 😆 Barbra Streisand Effect is when efforts to hide something draw even more attention to said thing! I was just thinking about Aritaum yesterday. I remember loving some of their products back in the day! I really miss their good stuff.

Omg yes Mandela effect!! And hmmmm interesting… it’s so weird to me that they didn’t change the name at all.. I didn’t even notice 😂

I am so happy Mamonde is rebranding! Their ceramide cream used to be my HG until it got impossible to find. They re-released it in a new packaging with an updated formula and I am so curious about it :D

100% agree with the section on The Face Shop and honestly, I'm going to lump Innisfree in there with them. While they are not struggling or going down hill, they used to have that clean and natural image along withe The Face Shop and honestly, that used to be true. It's not so much anymore. I have sensitive skin along with a VERY sensitive sense of smell, so I've always sought out clean brands that don't use Fragrance/Perfume/Flavor. Innisfree and The Face Shop were my JAM back in the day specifically because they didn't use those. Now, they do. It happened a few years ago. I bought products from them and then ended up having to throw them away because when I opened them and used them, the smell was overwhelming and it mildly irritated my skin. Very frustrating, but you move on and find other things and there are plenty of awesome brands and products out there without Fragrance/Perfume/Flavor that are made for those overly sensitive, like myself. 😅 Thanks so much for the video! It was interesting and nostalgic~

Yeah, I noticed they started putting fragrance when they moved their products into Sephora. I guess to sell to Western consumers better.

My local Amore Pacific store closed down when the pandemic peaked but the local Aritaum still lives. I honestly don't know how because I rarely see customers in there before and after pandemic. My guess is there's a customer base that frequents the store... Other brands I think that are fading away like The Face Shop: Tonymoly (i see face masks here and there but that's it), It's Skin, Holika Holika, Nature Republic, Heimish, The Saem... often these brands come out with one product that really sticks but everything else falls flat. I wish someone would just take all the hits from each of these kbeauty brands and sell them lol

I think its so cool that you documented your shopping trips several years ago so you and people on the internet can observe the changes in trends and brands. Oddly enough years ago I also wondered why she stopped promoting that line and saw how the website had no trace of her. I have watched alot of western brand downfall type of videos and sometimes a major reason is their failure to capitalize on social media or engage with any influencers during its rise so now they are struggling to stay relevant. Do you think there are any korean brands that fall into this category?

As someone who now shops cruelty-free, I steer clear of all these brands anyway. I don’t even consider them anymore ‘cause brands like Tony Moly, cosrx, Heimish, etc are killing it while keeping it cruelty free! I do miss Etude house, Missha, Holika Holika, Mamonde, and airtime for nostalgia reasons tho since I grew up on their products 😭

Sadly, both the Face Shop and Mamonde has just closed their flagship store in my country, so I guess they did not do well worldwide as well. I totally agreed, the Face Shop didn't do a good job in innovating, their cleanser was (and still) stripping and drying and their cleansing oil stung my eyes 😅

Omg!!! Mamonde! I totally forgot about them and I used to be obsessed with their hibiscus moisturizer! 😢 And I really miss The Face Shop! There used to be a standalone store right next to my house and it closed down during the pandemic but I feel like it was on its way out anyways. 🥺 Surprisingly, one of my favorite items from them was their shimmer top coat nail polish. Thank you for making this video! I’ve followed you for so long that we’ve definitely been through the ebb and flow of these K-beauty brands together!

Olive Young (CJ) stores are Saphora of South Korea and they have a strong hold almost monopoly and distribution power. A lot of small individual brand shops are unable to compete and have no choice but sell through Olive Young. Just like You can not find Chanel skincare or make up at Saphora some still are holding out. Just like you can not find any more Este Lauder lipstick shades since Saphora's parent co. LVMH's pressure on the factory that makes cosmetics to focus on their brands.

I will always be sad about the demise of Aritaum, the Shine Fix Eyes were my thing and i loved so many shades as well as their Pore Primer as well as all the cute collaborations Etude House had as well as the Proof 10 Eye Primer

I feel like I heard somewhere that Etude now owns some of the aritaum products. Like the ginger sugar and shine fix eyes products. I remember aritaum having a really good lipstick, melting something or other and it was amazing. Same with apieu cream mellow lipstick they did in the rilakumma collection. A shiny lipstick that has lasting/staining power? I need to find an alternative 😊

yeah i remember them in ulta like in store not just online in the international section of their store (which is now filled with cosrx, a greek skincare brand and i think an australian skincare brand) so i looked the brand up on ulta’s website and found out it doesn’t exist when browsing the store and checking out the international section.

Hey Morgan! I am pretty sure The Face Shop and some of Belif sell through Avon nowdays. I've been around since your Memebox days and I really miss all your try on videos, especially since I have super dry and sensitive skin as well. I used to buy alot of the items you recommended and now have started to buy some of those products for my own kids!
