During this project strangers spoke different languages and I had to guess which one it is. If I didn't guess it, I gave them a free coffee. It's interesting to see how many different languages there are around the world.

Old world civilisazional identity, i suppose , and also a strong sense of nationalism is what keeps us together. Indeed, India is a modern day tower of babel. We have languages from 4 major language families, Indo-European, Dravidian, Tibeto-Burman, and Austro-Asiatic. If you add in Pakistan and Bangladesh, you get a much more complete picture.

By default I speak English and Marathi (both are first language as we learn both simultaneously in Maharashtra, and both are spoken at the same time in a sentence), Hindi (second language), Gujrati (nearby state so lot of gujratia live in mumbai), And many dilects of Hindi (as I traveled due to my dads work situation)

Think of them as accents with their own slangs and stuff, the only thing is that Indian population is so big that some of those languages in the family have a big enough population for them to be considered a separate language

Bruh. These four languages do share Dravidian roots. But there is no way you can understand the other language after knowing how to speak one.
