A few years back, Adam Levine posted an IG story of us playing together for Halloween. It was me singing AC/DC and sharing the stage with all sorts of celebrities. I wasn't tagged, nor was I even acknowledged amongst all of the blue check marks, despite being the main focus of the post.
That's fine. I get it. They're mega stars and I'm not, and this surely isn't a sob story. However, it did annoy me enough to write about it. It gave me that feeling of "begging" to be part of a group that doesn't want you. Like, wanting to be part of the socialite click while they're all like "Eww. You'll never be one of us." Then realizing "You know what? Those people aren't my friends, and they sorta suck anyway."
I know it seems like a petty thing, but it was enough for me to want to say what I've always believed. My true friends and supporters are everything to me. They're the ones that I'd rather play for, and my years of touring all these back roads has brought that even more to the forefront.
I'm not saying all celebrities suck and that I'll never associate with them. That would be silly. I'm just saying that I don't expect their help, and I don't expect to join any clubs. I expect to build my own club with my own friends. Friends I want to hang around.
