I road a 50mph+ electric scooter with the bars pushed down low as possible through a storm drain. Prolly only got up to about 25mph but lemme tell you in a pitch black storm drain accelerating quickly I felt like I was going through a vortex

Its called instant torque. While your engine has to go through revs and gears it takes an ice a while to create power. Also each cylinder only makes power once out of 4 strokes

You can get full torque with any motor at every rpm. You probably can't get maximum torque at zero rpm with an electric bike. A steam powered bike certainly would though.

lol I saw one the other night I was driving along a 40mph road and came up to a red light, saw the bicyclist sitting at the light on the small shoulder, I legit thought it was just a regular bike. We start rolling and man he’s keeping up with me! I was like holy crap! Next light I asked him about it and I believe it was a very similar model to this one. I said cool dude just be safe!

For those making fun of the Golf there's not a lot of wrong with a Golf. It's a basic semi-reliable transportation box. You gotta go what you gotta do and there's nothing wrong with keeping it basic and affordable.

VW golfs are fuckin sweet.

Sorry for the disturbing news but there's a whole crop of home-built e-bikes that are being constructed in the past few years that are seeing 0-60 times of under 3 seconds. There are FB groups for these, peeps are taking typical dirt bike frames and running motors at 25kw (about 33 hp) or even more. 33hp doesn't sound like a lot but in electric form the acceleration numbers smash typical ice engines putting out those hp figures.

I am an old school mechanic, 2 strokes, 4 strokes and rotary engines, id love to learn about electric bikes . I think theyre Incredible. That looks like a stripped back motorbike frame wirh the large battery replacing the engine. I especially need to know about whats inbetween the battery and the electric motor. Control modules of some sort. I was very sceptical about Ebikes etc but im intrigued about this way more than i ever was about petrol or diesel driven vehicles. Though very little can come close to the raw power and speed of something like a CBR600 or 1000cc bike. My CBR600 is good for nearly 160mph.

It already has been ruined, a kid on an ebike killed a 60 year old woman resulting in a 2 month ban on ebikes. Where I stay, the max assist speed is 15.5mph, kids shoot past you at 50mph plus in a 30mph zone usually dressed in black with hoods and no lights.

If it doesn’t have pedals, it’s an E motorcycle and has to be registered in most states. That said, what difference does it make now, in most places cops won’t or can’t chase a motorcycle electric or not! People, mostly kids, ride dirt bikes and quads on the roads with no fear of being arrested!

Max torque available from a standstill. It's an electric thing. My ebike that I built on a Stealth B. frame will out accelerate my motorcycle but only up to 25 or so. It's only 3000w.

I had a 100cc bike once. That had untouchable acceleration but a low top-speed. (I think the rear sprocket could've been a bit smaller to get the speed above Yamahas FZIE 50cc version). Loved that bike! The only thing faster than me when pulling away from any lights was another bike. 👍

I used to live in a rural area about 4 miles from a small town,Zephyrhills,FL.Thr speed limit never went above 35 anywhere besides the bigger roads.As long as the vehicle can match the speed limit its fast enough.I would drive a 50cc moped all around town no problem.Its about plotting your routes to work with traffic and your flow as a driver.Looking at this video,I couldve definitely used the lo profile of a bike compared to a moped.Mostly the fact you can ride in the bike lane.Very efficient vehicle for a single,utilitarian person.

The Stealth Bomber was the first to do it with it being the first original fastest e-bike at 50 mph. Now, there are so many generic brand e-bikes that are exceeding the Stealth bombers speed

I met a dude at a smoke shop that converts old choppers to electric, he said the most torque he put at the rear wheel was enough to make the bike unrideable because even the tiniest throttle push caused the whole thing to flip over the back wheel

That looks like an electric that was designed for that acceleration. When people start messing around with the systems, that's when battery explosions / house fires happen.

Ebikes that go that fast require a motorcycle licence in many states

Its crazy how people who dont use more than one seat still have cars when bikes are faster, no tickets, go around lights/traffic, no laws, cheaper, more reliable, more versitile, no insurance and no parking tickets

soon in cal you will have to: register them like motorcycles, insure them like motorcycles. ware a motorcycle helmet. can only be used on the streets NO sidewalks, NO trails, etc.

These electric bikes need to be registered, pay Excise Duty and carry insurance. They also need to have a number plate and conform to vehicle laws. They are far too easy to tune and some kids are gonna get killed because of that!

These are not ebikes, they are electric motor bikes and should be licensed/insured as such.

Seen younger kids riding these around in my area. Looks extremely unsafe for young kids. Basically riding a motorcycle on the road at 12 years old.

Power/weight ratio is a real thing. Not surprised one bit.

My cousin had a golf. It was absolutely terrifying to ride with him. We’re here in Fl near Orlando with one of the worst highways in the country and he’d be cutting off semi’s, lifted trucks, and speeding like a bat out of hell in that lil hatchback.

I don't have a problem with fast e-bikes. Everything we make has a minority that will not behave responsibly. But that doesn't mean that the rest of us can't have sports cars, sports bikes, drugs, alcohol etc. Personally I want the laws relaxed for e-bikes with throttle only options, as I am partially disabled and can no longer pedal a bike. But find them the best choice for trips into town.

its a 2.5se lol it has the 5 Cylinder. THose things can sound so good with an exhaust

I don't have a problem with them, but they need to start being plated and charged for the roads they ride on.

The Golf will go for hundreds of miles on fillup. In an hour or two that bike will have to be parked for hours longer than it ran.
